Alipato: The Very Brief Life of an Ember

This film is specific I placed the rating higher than what it should've been because the originality behind the storyline is by far top notch. With a combination of editing, and a really cool storyline this movie appears to be something that is not. Overall production could've been better and most importantly getting to know each one of the characters, regardless of how long it takes makes it that much better. This is one of those movies that I can see up a major production company coming in and rewriting and turning it into a Hollywood blockbuster in the near future. If you are an independent film junkie like myself it's definitely worth the watch just so that way you can take it apart and identify what would've made this movie a top 10 film.

I wish I could say I liked this film more because honestly there's so much to like about this film. But for as much as I could enjoy there's just as much the feels shallow. There's a lot of great style in this movie. The cinematography is great and the editing is top notch! These two features alone make this movie feel as though that it's a better movie then what it really is. The thing is at the end of the film I feel like I've barely watched nothing as well. For all the surreal weirdness going on, artsy Segway's and frantic editing you actually barely see nothing. Even worse the story is basically held together by a few title cards that appear randomly to let you in on what the hell is going on in this film. Without it this movie would be barely comprehendible. You barely get to know any of the characters. People die left and right and your left scratching your head saying who was that? More insane weirdness just for the sake of insane weirdness. That's all the movie is. Like I said I wish I could say I enjoy this movie more but the truth is it's an ok movie that could have been a great movie if it just put as much emphasis on telling a good story as much as it put into the style and look this would be a modern classic.
