“A staggering 20.6 million of you watched England’s victory on BBC One last night,” tweeted “Match of the Day” host and English soccer legend Gary Lineker on Wednesday as the viewing numbers from Tuesday night’s UEFA European Football Championship round of 16 match between England and Germany came in. Those numbers make last night’s match the most-watched of the tournament in the U.K., surpassing the Home Nations derby between England and Scotland, which peaked at 19.4 million.

6.5 million live streams were also accessed across BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport online and set a new iPlayer live viewing record of 5.6m streams. In total, more than 27 million Brits tuned in or logged on to watch the game. Next up for the Three Lions is a trip to Rome where they will face Ukraine on Saturday evening.

‘We Go Around in The Night And Are Consumed by Fire’ Set for TV Adaptation From ‘Loaded’ Producer Hillbilly (Exclusive)

An adaptation of the novel “We Go Around in the Night and are Consumed by Fire” by “Loaded” producers Hillbilly Films and Television has attached its key creative team.

BAFTA-nominated helmer Georgi Banks-Davies (“I Hate Suzie”) is set to direct the limited drama series, while Clare McQuillan (“Impulse”) is writing. The film deal was brokered by Luke Speed of the Curtis Brown Group on behalf of Alexander Cochran of C&w Agency.

Inspired by graffiti found on an overpass in Manchester, Jules Grant’s debut novel is a queer love story and revenge thriller that provides a little-seen view of British gangland in Manchester, from a female perspective.

Channel 5, AMC Team For Branded Channels on VOD Service My5 – Global Bulletin

In today’s Global Bulletin, branded channels arrive on My5; “Nurses” sells across the world; AMC’s Acorn TV bows in Portugal.

Viacom-owned Channel 5 has signed a content partnership deal with AMC Networks International U.K. for two of its branded channels, CBS Reality and Horror Channel, to launch on its VOD service My5. The deal will bring 400 additional hours of content to My5 over the next year, with more than 40 new programs a month to choose from across the two channels. Key titles set to be added include CBS Reality’s original true crime series “Murder by the Sea,” and “New Scotland Yard Files,” in addition to Horror Channel’s “Andromeda” and several films including “100 Bloody Acres and The Drownsman.”

Through his ITV Studios drama label he will oversee four, 15-minute episodes, which will be written and performed by established British drama talent and reflect on how the pandemic has changed lives in a thought-provoking and humorous way.

BritBox has acquired BBC One’s Kelly Macdonald-fronted crime drama The Victim as the anchor of its forthcoming fall slate.

The four-part Stv Studios-produced series will air exclusively on the Svod service, which is run by BBC Studios and ITV. It was created by The Man In The High Castle writer Rob Williams and is co-funded and internationally distributed by Sky Vision.

BBC Adapting Cecil Day-Lewis’ ‘The Beast Must Die’ Into Detective Drama With ‘Taboo’ Producer Scott Free London
Exclusive: The BBC is developing classic murder mystery novel The Beast Must Die into a detective drama series with Taboo producer Scott Free London.

The British public broadcaster is working up a remake of the novel, which tells the story of how respected crime writer Frank Cairns plots the perfect murder but ends up working with a top detective to clear his name.

In the book, Cairns intends to murder the hit-and-run driver who killed his young son but when his intended victim is found dead and Cairns becomes the prime suspect, the author insists that he has been framed. To solve the mystery, one of Cairns’ old friends calls in private detective Nigel Strangeways to help.

The Beast Must Die was written by Nicholas Blake, the nom de plume of poet Cecil Day-Lewis, father of Daniel Day Lewis and was first published in 1938.

Last week we got to hear from feature-film newcomer Isabela Moner on her role as Izabella in the latest movie in the Transformers franchise and today it’s the turn of fellow Brit Laura Haddock. Laura has previously appeared in numerous TV shows including The Level, Da Vinci’s Demons and Luther on stage and had parts in The Inbetweeners movie and Guardians of the Galaxy. By her own admission the level has increased somewhat as she takes on the role of Oxford university professor Vivian Wembley in the Michael Bay film.

ITV crime drama has gone back to the seaside with The Level, a new six-part thriller set against the lurid hen dos and moody seascapes of Brighton.

Karla Crome (Misfits, Under The Dome) plays Nancy Devlin, a high-achieving young detective sergeant whose probity is compromised by her emotional ties to shady businessman Frank Le Saux (Life On Mars’ Philip Glenister). The father of her school friend Hayley (Da Vinci’s Demons’ Laura Haddock), Frank’s family offered young Nancy a refuge from her troubled home life. Acorn Media Enterprises is continuing its move into originals, teaming with Blinder Films, Dcd Rights and RTÉ as the North American co-producing partner on Irish legal drama Striking Out. The series will premiere on Ireland’s RTÉ in early 2017 and make its U.S. debut on Acorn TV next year.
