It’s up, up and away for Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ “Superman,” which got off the ground with $56.5 million across Friday and preview screenings in 4,135 theaters. That’s the second-biggest such figure for the calendar year, floating just behind “A Minecraft Movie” ($57.11 million) and ahead of “Lilo & Stitch” ($55.94 million).
Of note, “Superman” earned some extra cash with early-access screenings on Tuesday for Amazon Prime members, playing before the traditional Thursday evening opening.
The superhero reboot, written and directed by the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy’s James Gunn, drew conservative mid-week projections for a debut of $100 million, while some more bullish outlets were forecasting north of $140 million less than 24 hours ago. Things are looking to settle closer to $120 million. “Superman” gets a revenue boost from luxury ticket prices for Imax and other premium large format auditoriums.

The Fourth of July holiday weekend was a monstrous one for the latest movie in the Jurassic franchise. Jurassic World Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend, ran away with the No. 1 box office spot with $147.3 million domestically, per Variety. The film is playing in 4,308 theaters across North America and had a budget of $180 million.
The seventh Jurassic movie, over the five-day holiday weekend, exceeded earlier predictions with its total. Ahead of the movie’s release, it was predicted that Rebirth would take in $133.5 million over its debut weekend. The dinosaur adventure movie earned $91.5 million over the traditional three-day weekend, which also exceeded earlier predictions of $85.4 million.
It’s Total Pale in Comparison to Other Franchise Films
Rebirth may have exceeded its box office predictions, but the totals for the seventh installment in the franchise are significantly lower than the three-day starts for the other Jurassic World films.

Jurassic World Rebirth has had a tremendous global box office debut. The new release is a standalone sequel and the seventh installment in the dinosaur franchise. The Jurassic World Rebirth release comes just three years after Jurassic World Dominion united the core legacy characters from Jurassic Park with the stars of the first three World movies.
Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Jurassic World Rebirth is projected to end its opening weekend with a 5-day total of $318 million worldwide. This comprises its 5-day domestic debut of $147 million and an additional $171 million from 82 international markets.
Jurassic World Rebirth has taken mere days to climb up the chart to become the ninth highest-grossing movie of 2025 so far worldwide, behind only Sinners, Thunderbolts*, Captain America: Brave New World, How to Train Your Dragon, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Lilo & Stitch, A Minecraft Movie, and Ne Zha 2.

Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards reveals Steven Spielberg's reaction to the latest installment in the Jurassic Park franchise. Spielberg's debut entry in 1993 brought dinosaurs back to life on the big screen, and the creatures have now returned in six blockbuster sequels.
Scarlett Johansson leads the Jurassic World: Rebirth cast as Zora Bennett, the leader of an expedition into dino-infested territory to recover DNA for a medical breakthrough. Spielberg serves as an executive producer on the movie, which hit theaters on July 2.
During a recent interview with SyFy, Edwards discusses waiting for Spielberg's reaction to the movie and just how stressful of an experience that was. Though the first reaction to notes about a movie may be to push back, the director reveals that getting notes from the original Jurassic Park director was different. Check out his comment below:

Not that it ever really went away, but the Jurassic Park franchise is coming back with more bite. Just three years after it looked like the sci-fi series had gone extinct with Jurassic World Dominion, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards is taking the reins with Jurassic World Rebirth. With all three of the previous Jurassic World movies making over a billion each at the box office, it was only a matter of time until we got another, and this is arguably the most star-studded yet. Sadly, much like the mutant dinosaurs of Isla Saint-Hubert, this experiment may have gone too far.

We're all familiar with the famous Ian Malcolm quote about being so preoccupied about whether someone could do something that they don't stop to think about whether or not they should. That hypothesis can be applied to all manner of IP-driven filmmaking with franchises that have stretched beyond their expiration dates, but it's especially prescient with "Jurassic Park." Universal has been chasing the high of Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking sci-fi adventure ever since it gave audiences the best glimpse of cinematic dinosaurs they'd ever seen. It's easy to understand why they would see it as a hot property to build an empire around. The film was not just a box office juggernaut, but it fundamentally changed how movies are made in terms of computer-generated imagery. That's a high bar to clear.

Universal Pictures’ sixth dinosaur feature, “Jurassic World Rebirth,” charged into the holiday corridor with an estimated $137 million across the Wednesday–Sunday span, including $81 million for the traditional three-day weekend, according to studio estimates. The launch follows a mid-week opening that banked $30 million on Wednesday and another $25.3 million on Thursday, bringing receipts to $55.3 million before Friday even began.
Pre-release tracking had pointed to a $120–125 million five-day haul, while Universal’s internal projection was closer to $100 million. Early walk-up demand, buoyed by mystery-movie previews on Monday nights, lifted the picture beyond those targets.
Even with the strong start, Rebirth lands below the 2022 trilogy closer “Dominion” and well under the 2015 “Jurassic World” record, reinforcing analyst views that each sequel has earned a bit less than the one before. Forecasts from Box Office Theory suggest a domestic finish in the $700-800 million range if momentum holds, still lucrative but reflecting franchise fatigue.

Dinosaurs are ruling the box office heading into the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
“Jurassic World Rebirth” topped ticket sales on Thursday, its second full day of release, earning a commanding $25.3 million to bring its domestic total to $55.8 million. The Universal release is on track to earn $137.5 million over its first five days of release. It’s a strong result, positioning “Jurassic World Rebirth” to be one of the summer’s bigger hits. However, it’s worth noting that the sequel’s earnings can’t match the debuts of more recent films in the series. “Jurassic World Rebirth” is no match for 2015’s “Jurassic World,” which rebooted the franchise while earning a massive $208 million in its opening weekend. Other entries also eclipsed “Rebirth’s” initial results — 2018’s “Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom” bowed to $148 million and 2022’s “Jurassic World Dominion” premiered to $145 million. Moreover, those “Jurassic” films put up those bigger...

Michael Crichton must’ve known he struck gold — if not mosquito-filled amber — when Steven Spielberg managed to acquire the film rights to Jurassic Park before the novel was even published. It was his vision that would come to capture the imagination of an entire generation once the result of Spielberg’s tireless efforts indelibly altered cinema as we know it today.
There’s no filmmaker other than Spielberg who proudly holds the distinction of having directed the highest-grossing film of all time on three different occasions. Each time he’s done so, he’s managed to find a new reason for us to believe he’s one of the greatest filmmakers in history. Jurassic World Rebirth Has Already Broken a Franchise Box Office Record After Just 1 Day in Theaters
One day into its theatrical release, Jurassic World Rebirth is already breaking records. The latest entry in the long-running dinosaur franchise has just posted the best opening day for the series, but there's a catch.
Per Deadline, Jurassic World Rebirth earned $30.5 million on Wednesday. While not the best opening day ever for the franchise, it is the best opening day for a Jurassic movie that was released on a Wednesday, besting the $19 million that Jurassic Park III made back in 2001. Among opening days for the franchise, regardless of the day of release, Rebirth comes in at No. 4, behind 2015's Jurassic World ($81.9M), 2022's Dominion ($59.5M), and 2018's Fallen Kingdom ($58.5M). Rebirth is currently looking at a $80M 3-day, $133.5M 5-day domestic opening weekend.

“Jurassic World Rebirth” is charging into theaters with a lot of energy. It’s the seventh film in the franchise and, according to Universal and box office trackers, it had a strong opening day. Even with all the excitement, though, it looks like this new one won’t reach the heights of some of the earlier movies in the series.
The original “Jurassic World” in 2015 had a huge debut and made $208 million in just three days. Then “Fallen Kingdom” followed with $148 million in 2018, and “Dominion” brought in $145 million in 2022, all during regular three-day weekends. “Rebirth,” on the other hand, is expected to make around $133 million, but over a longer five-day holiday period. Of that, about $80 million is likely to come from the normal weekend. So even though the new film is doing well, it’s not quite hitting the same box office levels as its predecessors.

“Jurassic World Rebirth” is off to a strong start at the box office, bringing in $30.5 million on its first day in theaters. The movie, which is the seventh in the long-running dinosaur series, is expected to make around $133 million over the extended Fourth of July holiday stretch. That sounds like a lot, and it is, but it’s still less than what earlier films in the series made in shorter timeframes.
Back in 2015, “Jurassic World” made a massive $208 million during its first weekend. The next one, “Fallen Kingdom,” opened with $148 million in 2018. In 2022, “Jurassic World Dominion” brought in $145 million over three days. By comparison, “Rebirth” is expected to earn about $80 million during just the regular weekend part of its five-day debut. So while it’s doing well, it doesn’t quite roar like the earlier entries.

Jurassic World Rebirth has critics and audiences divided on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Gareth Edwards, with a script by the franchise's original writer David Koepp, the fourth Jurassic World film introduces a new cast of characters who embark on a mission to the Island of Ile Saint-Hubert, which was once used by InGen as a research facility and is filled with mutated dinosaurs.
Thecast includes Scarlett Johansson, two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, Ed Skrein, and more.
Now, following its theatrical release on July 2, the film has sparked a sharp divide between critics and audiences. The "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic World" movies have been by far the biggest name in dinosaur cinema for more than 30 years. Dating back to director Steven Spielberg's original blockbuster classic in 1993, these movies have been associated with their groundbreaking technology. In particular, "Jurassic Park" is known for pioneering CGI in filmmaking, but it didn't rely entirely on computer-generated dinosaurs -- the key was its blend of CGI with impressive, practical animatronic dinosaurs which helped the whole thing feel tangible. It's in that area that the latest entry in the franchise, "Jurassic World Rebirth," is sorely lacking.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, the new film is set five years after the events of "Jurassic World Dominion." The planet's ecology is largely inhospitable for dinosaurs, and the majority that remain now exist in isolated environments near the equator, far removed from humanity. Oh, how Steven Spielberg's 1993 masterpiece, Jurassic Park, feels so far away now. With seven entries in this huge dinosaur franchise's back pocket, the latest is failing to capture even a small sense of the same acclaim the first did, although that feeling will be nothing new to Jurassic Park fans. Jurassic World Rebirth, starring the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, is the latest entry into an eye-popping 2025 box office that includes many new installments in some of cinema's biggest franchises.
Sadly, ahead of Rebirth's arrival, it seems that early responses have proved certainly unfavorable for director Gareth Edwards and co, as the film's audience rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes has already fallen short of the last entry in the franchise, the controversialJurassic World Dominion. Currently, Rebirth's audience score is at 74% at the time of writing, which is 3% less than that of Dominion.

The Jurassic franchise was, clearly, ready for a new era.
The previous Jurassic World film, 2022’s Dominion, garnered the weakest reviews and poorest box office of the sequel trilogy (though still managed to top $1 billion). Some thought Universal’s dino franchise might be put into cryo storage for a decade. But executive producer Steven Spielberg wasn’t ready to let his creation go extinct, and tapped his longtime go-to screenwriter David Koepp to design a new adventure in the saga — Jurassic World Rebirth, which opens this week and stars Scarlett Johansson as a mercenary seeking to retrieve some dino blood samples on a forgotten island that has ties to the original park.
Koepp co-wrote the beloved 1993 first film (based on Michael Crichton’s bestseller) and penned its sequel, 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park. His other credits include 1996’s Mission: Impossible (and has quite an entertaining idea for a new sequel for that franchise,...

It’s the middle of summer, Fourth of July week is here, and Universal has just premiered a new Jurassic World movie aiming to recapture the magic of the original Spielberg films. The original writer of the first Jurassic Park, David Koepp, returns and explained, “I was afraid of going in and feeling like a sad sack trying to recapture a feeling I had 30 years ago — that was appropriate to who I was then but not appropriate to who I am now And I was very happy to see, that within a few days of starting writing, it was totally appropriate. I really like that feeling.” Koepp also added that he felt rejuvenated after returning to his Jurassic roots. So, does it succeed? It’s up to the audience.

In his 61st year, Brad Pitt broke the box office record of his career and on behalf of Apple Studios. F1 the Movie became an obvious tentpole success within the first weekend of its release, swiftly surpassing other competitors in the market like M3GAN 2.0.
However, it is important to note that the performance of F1 was not only boosted by the recent global craze surrounding open-wheel racing. Apple’s sly strategy when it comes to distribution helped rake in the big numbers, making F1 a creative as well as marketing exception.
However, as an ever bigger (and prehistoric) summer blockbuster now prepares for arrival, it will become increasingly difficult for Brad Pitt’s F1 to keep hanging on to its thread of success.

A huge month for the box office kicks off on Wednesday with the release of Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth,” the seventh film in the long running “Jurassic” franchise that Steven Spielberg started 32 years ago and then got rebooted 10 years ago with “Jurassic World,” which still stands as Universal’s highest grossing film ever with $1.6 billion worldwide.
The question is how much fuel does “Jurassic World” still have with audiences? While all three films so far have been successful, the law of diminishing returns has been in effect. The 2018 installment “Fallen Kingdom” grossed $1.31 billion, while the 2022 film “Dominion” needed to leg out as far as it could to just get past $1 billion worldwide after earning a $145 million 3-day domestic opening.

Welcome back to Jurassic Park.
Well, not really. “Jurassic World Rebirth” doesn’t actually take its characters back to any of the park sites. Instead, the film — which is now in theaters, directed by Gareth Edwards — brings its latest crew to an island near the equator, the only place where the remaining dinosaurs of the world can survive.
Of course, those dinosaurs only exist because of the previous “Jurassic World” films, so you might be wondering whether you need to see those movies before heading into “Rebirth.”
Well, the short answer is no, not technically. But let’s get into it.
Do I need to watch the other “Jurassic World” movies to understand this one?
The events of “Rebirth” do take place after “Jurassic World Dominion,” but thanks to a few title cards at the start of “Rebirth,...

Turn on the red light and crank the Luther Vandross to eleven because David Koepp is ready to set the mood for love! What? Okay, not exactly. Well, almost. Let me explain. According to an interview with Jurassic World: Rebirth writer David Koepp, a dinosaur sex scene was left on the cutting room floor of the latest chapter of the blockbuster franchise.
Speaking with IndieWire, Koepp told the outlet he had fun returning to the Jurassic franchise and would do it again, but he doesn’t want to get ahead of himself.
“I was afraid of going in and feeling like a sad sack trying to recapture a feeling I had 30 years ago — that was appropriate to who I was then but not appropriate to who I am now And I was very happy to see, that within a few days of starting writing, it was totally appropriate. After three years, a new Jurassic World movie is now playing in theaters. Before moviegoers head out to see Rebirth, they can check out the 2015 reboot starring Chris Pratt that successfully revitalized the franchise for free on Tubi.
Jurassic World is now available to stream on Tubi. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, the 2015 movie features a fully operational and successful version of John Hammond's vision for a dinosaur amusement park on Isla Nublar, dubbed Jurassic World. Set 22 years after Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic Jurassic Park, the legacy sequel centers around a new species of dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which was created to boost plunging park attendance, escaping, in turn sending Jurassic World spiraling into chaos. With no one else to turn to, operations manager Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) enlists raptor specialist Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) to help her stop the Indominus rex and save her nephews and the park from further danger.

This post contains spoilers for "Jurassic World Rebirth."
A mere three years after the release of "Jurassic World Dominion," which was billed as an ending of sorts for the long-running franchise, Universal Pictures has brought the dinosaurs back for another big screen adventure. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the aptly-titled "Jurassic World Rebirth" is billed as a new beginning. It largely delivers on that promise, in no small part by walking back the biggest thing that the previous trilogy tried to do: Namely, making it so that dinosaurs and humans would be truly forced to co-exist alongside one another.
The new film takes place five years after the events of "Dominion," which left dinosaurs running loose with humans all over the world. However, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs, with many dying off. The remaining dinos mostly live in isolated environments near the equator, which have climates resembling...

Jurassic World Rebirth (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Universal Pictures is moving forward without any indecision. Just three years after Jurassic World Dominion appeared to wrap the franchise (or so we thought) in 2022, the studio has cracked open the dino lab again. Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest chapter in the franchise, hits theaters today on July 2nd. However, audiences should not expect a traditional continuation. The film features an entirely new cast, avoids nostalgic references, and omits post-credits scenes. This one goes full reboot, and with no ties to its predecessors.
Directed by Gareth Edwards (behind Godzilla and Rogue One), Rebirth dives into new territory. And if you’re sticking around after the credits for some hidden surprise? Don’t bother. Nothing is waiting in the dark this time. As it turns out, the film says what it wants before the screen fades to black.

It’s Jurassic World Rebirth all the time, until DC Studios/Warner Bros’ Superman opens next week, and the rumbling starts offshore today in Hong Kong and tomorrow in the U.S., UK, China, Germany, Korea, Spain and Italy; the overall global outlook by Sunday being $260M on the high end.
Broken out we’re seeing $130M+ abroad with the dinos dropping into Australia, Brazil, Mexico and the Netherlands on Thursday. On Friday, they head to France and India, among others. In total, a big footprint of 82 markets overseas with Japan joining in August.

The Universal and Amblin theatrical release will hit stateside tomorrow (not tonight) at 4,000 theaters before upping to 4,300 by Friday. The studio doesn’t really believe in previews on discount Tuesday and has generally launched hard on Wednesday. The five-day forecast is $120M-$130M.

Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth stampedes into U.S. cinemas on 2 July, and early tracking shows a wide scatter of estimates as analysts gauge whether audiences still have an appetite for dinosaurs. Box Office Pro projects a domestic haul of $100 million–$120 million for the three-day frame, rising to as much as $150 million over the full five-day Independence Day corridor. Rival service Quorum is markedly higher, citing unaided awareness to forecast $165 million–$185 million across the same span, while BoxOfficeTheory’s modelling lands in the $116 million–$135 million band.

It’s been 28 years since David Koepp wrote a screenplay about dinosaurs. As you probably know, Koepp was the screenwriter (along with author Michael Crichton) for Steven Spielberg’s original hit “Jurassic Park.” He then wrote the script for Spielberg’s 1997 sequel, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.”
And then, well, he was out of ideas when it came to dinosaurs. When Joe Johnston’s “Jurassic Park III” came around, it was time to let someone else take a shot at it. Koepp has stayed peripherally involved in the “Jurassic World” movies since, offering some notes here and there when asked, but as Koepp told IndieWire, there was nothing of real consequence.
This all changes with “Jurassic World: Rebirth.” It was Spielberg himself who called Koepp and urged him to return to the cinematic world he helped create over 30 years ago. And what Koepp found appealing was that it seemed like...

Plot: A pharmaceutical titan (Rupert Friend) hires a mercenary (Scarlett Johansson) and a paleontologist (Jonathan Bailey) to take him to a forbidden island to recover three DNA samples from dinosaurs—samples that could allow his company to cure heart disease.
Review: Jurassic World: Dominion was a global blockbuster—but have you ever met anyone who actually liked it (check out our recent Awfully Good on it)? The general consensus following its release was that the franchise had run its course. However, that hasn’t stopped Universal from taking another swing with Jurassic World: Rebirth. Marketed as a return to the Spielbergian, “less-is-more” approach of the earlier films, Rebirth tries to recapture the magic by going back to a more contained setting. In the years since Dominion, we’re told, the 21st-century environment has once again wiped out the dinosaurs, leaving them isolated on remote islands.

Life has once again found a way with Jurassic World Rebirth about to hit theaters on July 2 in time for the upcoming holiday. It marks a return for the long-running dinosaur-infested franchise for the first time since 2022, when Jurassic World Dominion brought the modern trilogy to a close with a cool $1 billion at the box office but disastrous reviews for what Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking original had morphed into. Fortunately, there are no genetically modified locusts this time around, but, in the eyes of critics, when it came to continuing the story, they believe Universal was so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should. At the time of writing, Gareth Edwards's walk with the dinosaurs currently has an unfavorable 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes, yet it's not particularly close to the worst the series has seen.

The embargo has finally lifted for Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Rebirth, which is set to premiere this week. With a new cast and a new story at the helm, free from the baggage of the Jurassic World trilogy, given the return of Jurassic Park writer David Koepp, followed by the involvement of Gareth Edwards, many presumed it would be a return to form for the franchise.
On the other hand, the rotten tomato numbers paint an entirely different picture, as although it doesn’t have an audience score yet, critics aren’t warming up to this new beginning.

Jurassic World Rebirth's Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed, but how does it compare to the past Jurassic movies? Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by the franchise's original writer David Koepp, the new Jurassic World movie introduces a new cast of characters who embark on a mission to the island of Ile Saint-Hubert for a pharmaceutical company.
The island was once used by InGen as a research facility and, decades later, is still filled with failed, mutated dinosaur experiments. Jurassic World Rebirth's cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, Ed Skrein, and more.
Now, ahead of its theatrical release in a few days, Jurassic World Rebirth has debuted to a 58% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie has 76 reviews at the time of writing, so the score will fluctuate as more are currently being published. It doesn't yet have an audience score,...

The Jurassic Park franchise kicked off in 1993 with Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Michael Crichton's book. After the original trilogy, the series continued as Jurassic World.
Jurassic World Rebirth comes after the second trilogy of films, maintaining the "Jurassic World" name. With Godzilla's Gareth Edwards at the helm and original writer David Koepp to pen the script, starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. Ahead of the film's premiere on July 2, Jurassic World Rebirth debuted with an unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics: only 58%. Luckily, it's far from the franchise's worst score, which still goes to 2022's Jurassic World Dominion: only 29% from the critics.
The initial 58% score leads to a "rotten" score, as it falls below the 60% necessary to maintain a "fresh" rating. The rating comes from 65 reviews ahead of the film's official premiere, which means that it might fluctuate as more reviews come in. Since the film...

Jurassic World Rebirthis arriving in theaters laster this week, but critics are already handing out their verdicts for the latest entry in the long-standing dinosaur franchise. While it seems Rebirth is better than most of the Jurassic World series, it seemingly fails to live up to the film that started it all.
As of this writing, Jurassic World Rebirth has a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 69 reviews. The score is just shy of a Fresh rating, but it is among the best scores in the Jurassic franchise. It sits firmly in the second spot among the Jurassic World films, ahead of Fallen Kingdom (47%) and Dominion (29%), but short of the first Jurassic World (72%). It didn't take too long for Universal Pictures to decide it was time to bring dinosaurs back to the big screen once again. Just three years after "Jurassic World Dominion," which was set up as something of a conclusion for the series, another new movie is headed to theaters this week in the form of "Jurassic World Rebirth." Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's being billed as a new beginning for the long-running franchise. But is it going to be a one-off? Or is this movie setting up more to come?
Admittedly, credits scenes haven't been a big thing in the "Jurassic" movies over the years, though 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" did have a post-credits scene that helped tease what we would see in "Dominion." So, does "Rebirth" have any such scenes that audiences need to be aware of? Do fans need to stay during the credits for this one?...

For whatever reason, the “Jurassic World” (née “Park”) series is the cinematic equivalent of a cheeseburger. The attraction seems pretty self-explanatory on paper, as they’re all what-if adventure films about dinosaurs existing in our modern-day. Film history-wise, they stem from the tradition of the special-effects monster movie — Steven Spielberg’s first two entries in the series make explicit reference to “King Kong.” Although the “Jurassic” films hew close to “Kong” as well as films like “The Lost World” (1925), and “The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms,” they also contain some outrageous elements borrowed from Japanese kaiju movies, specifically the “Godzilla” franchise. Thus, the “Jurassic” series feels like America’s answer to kaiju, years before a US version of “Godzilla” got off the ground.
Director Gareth Edwards (the director of the second American “Godzilla”) began his filmmaking career playing “what if?” with kaiju tropes in his 2010 feature “Monsters,” and it’s that movie which Edwards’ latest film,...

What a comeback. The Jurassic World film series had looked to be pretty much extinct after some increasingly dire dollops of franchise content: Fallen Kingdom in 2018 and Dominion in 2022. But now, against all odds, these dinosaurs have had a brand refresh: a brighter, breezier, funnier, incomparably better acted and better written film, with unashamed nods to the summer smashes of yesteryear, that makes sense of the dino-spectacle moments that earn their place.
Screenwriter David Koepp and director Gareth Edwards have been drafted in to take us back to basics with a new story, all but retconning the drama with a “17 years previously” flashback at the start that entirely (and thankfully) ignores the tiresome convoluted dullness of what has recently happened. Someday, assuming we're not all extinct by then, future film historians will be able to look back at the "Jurassic" franchise and chart a pretty clear trajectory of studio filmmaking across thirty-odd years of fits and starts. Like a fossil perfectly preserved in amber, Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic stands out as one of an elite few that helped defined summer blockbusters in the first place. What followed over the next several decades, in stark contrast, would be a number of attempts to recreate the same magic to increasingly diminished returns. Despite no obvious sequel setup, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" begrudgingly returned to another dinosaur-infested island retroactively crowbarred into the canon. Joe Johnston then took a B-movie approach to "Jurassic Park III" for a throwback adventure flick that was rushed into production without a final script. And as for the "Jurassic World" films, well, let's just say you don't need...

Dr. Henry Loomis, the paleontologist played by Jonathan Bailey in Jurassic World Rebirth, at one point laments the public’s diminished interest in seeing the same old prehistoric creatures. That prompted the bottom line-driven folks at InGen, the billion-dollar biotech corporation that specializes in resurrecting extinct animals, to start crossbreeding new species. “Engineered entertainment” is what Henry calls it. The same descriptor could apply to Gareth Edwards’ new chapter in the cloned dinosaur franchise birthed by Steven Spielberg more than three decades ago. There are some mighty new monsters on the prowl, but this is primarily an assembly of recycled story beats.

Jurassic World: Rebirth Box Office Prediction Fuels Speculation That It’ll Repeat a Franchise Record
July is stacked with some of the most anticipated releases of the year, whether it’s James Gunn’s Superman, Brad Pitt’s F1, or the introduction of the MCU’s first family, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This reasonably had fans concerned about Jurassic World: Rebirth‘s legs at the box office, especially after being cut off from Imax screenings in North America.
But according to early tracking, the next installment in the franchise is apparently eying a strong domestic start, meaning the billion-dollar threshold might not be out of reach.

Jurassic World Rebirth will rule the Fourth of July weekend, but the franchise seems to be showing its age. The tracking suggests one of the lowest opening weekends in the franchise's history, and even with the extra two days for the holiday, it puts it behind projections for other summer tentpoles like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Jurassic World Rebirth is the seventh film in the popular Jurassic franchise and the first of a new era, with stars like Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Idris Elba (Moonlight), and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) in the lead roles.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jurassic World Rebirth is tracking to gross $120 to $125 million over the five-day Fourth of July weekend. Jurassic World: Rebirth opens on Jul. 2, 2025, a Wednesday, with the Fourth of July landing on Friday. Notably, Deadline's reporting ranges from $115 million to $135 million. The dinos will stomp back into theaters just in time to set off major fireworks at the Fourth of July holiday, or at least that’s the hope.
If tracking is correct, Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth should open anywhere from $120 million to $125 million over the five-day holiday corridor. The pic opens in North America on July 2, a Wednesday. Universal and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin, home of the multi-billion dollar franchise, are trying to manage expectations by stressing that the pic could come in on the lower end of tracking, and even in the $90 million to $100 million range.
In 2015, Jurassic World opened to a series-best $208.8 million domestically, not adjusted for inflation. The two films that followed, 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, opened to $148 million and $145 million, respectively.
