Had a great potential but ruined by poor writing

Iam a die hard fan of this series which is why iam not giving the episode 1/10

This episode is completely bad by all standards and scales there is...even in the game of thrones standard for past pre-finale episodes

I excpected more ..alot more than this...but OK lets hope the finale makes up

Not to mention that it is unnecessarily long

Good episode but the plan seems to be stupid?

The wight hunt plan in this episode look stupid. but thought the director and writer make it seems smart. there are a lot of plot holes in this episode. but those plot holes are must and make the story fun to watch.

    Supersonic raven

Work this out. Our heroes are surrounded by the walking dead. Gendry runs to the wall, tells his story to the night's watch, a message is composed and sent by a raven over a thousand miles to Dragonstone, Daenerys Targaryen gets organized and flys back ... all in 1 night. That has to be the fastest raven ever.

    Unrivalled scale and thrilling actiom

Another masterful penultimate episode for game of thrones. No surprise there. There are however plenty of surprises within the episode itself and i trust any fan of the show will be absolutely thrilled. It's not without its problems, nor has this season or any season before it been. For example, season 7 has some plot lines I am not quite sold on. The Sansa and Arya line isn't hitting the mark for me. It just doesn't make sense up to now and unless it has me entirely fooled and all pays off to be some sort of masterstroke of epic proportions I'll be forever disappointed. It just makes no sense that there'd be this much bad blood over something that neither child could help at the time.

That being said, this season has been mindblowing thus far, save for those pacing issues everyone loves bringing up. And yes, this episode only makes those more prominent and will only enrage people more. I won't spoil the events of the episode in this review but there are a few things that happen that require you to suspend your disbelief a little more than usual. What i can say however is that I understand why it's happening this way. We are almost at the end of the show and can't expect too many filler episodes any more.

All in all, prepare for one of the most thrilling and action packed shockers the show has given us ever. It is truly fantastic TV rivalling anything put on the big screen in terms of scale and talent and effects. The team that go beyond the wall do not disappoint. Game of thrones will go down in history if it keeps these kinds of episodes coming for the rest of its air time.

Winter truly has come. My rating would be 9.5.

    Makes total sense

A raven can travel 100 miles in 1 day. There are 2,000 miles between Dragonstone and beyond the wall. That's 20 days just to get to Dragonstone. Somehow that and the added time of Dany and her dragons getting ready and flying back all happened in one night.

    • Trivia
While most of the walking scenes beyond the Wall were filmed in Iceland, the frozen lake sequence was filmed in the Wolf Hill rock quarry near Belfast, Northern Ireland. The set was completely paved with concrete to serve as the ice, dressed with (plaster) rocks, and then covered in fake snow. About a 1,000 links were made and painted to create 400 feet of rusted chain. According to the crew, the actual temperature was so cold that the actors did not have to act as if they were freezing.
    • Goofs
It is not explained why Jon and his crew don't simply break the ice around them as soon as it forms to ensure the dead are never able to reach them.

Tormund Giantsbane: Did you trip into the fire when you were a baby?

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: I didn't trip, I was pushed.

Tormund Giantsbane: And ever since, you've been mean.

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: Will you fuck off?

Tormund Giantsbane: I don't think you're truly mean. You have sad eyes.

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: You want to suck my dick, is that it?

      Tormund Giantsbane: Dick?

      Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: Cock.

Tormund Giantsbane: Ah, dick. I like it.

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: I bet you do.

Tormund Giantsbane: Nope, it's pussy for me. I have a beauty waiting for me back in Winterfell. If I ever get back there. Yellow hair, blue eyes, the tallest woman you've ever seen. Almost as tall as you.

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: Brienne of Tarth.

      Tormund Giantsbane: You know her?

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: You're with Brienne of fucking Tarth?

Tormund Giantsbane: Well, not with her yet. But I see the way she looks at me.

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: How does she look at you? Like she wants to carve you up and eat your liver?

Tormund Giantsbane: You do know her.

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: We've met.

Tormund Giantsbane: I want to make babies with her. Think of them - great big monsters. They'd conquer the world.

Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane: How did a mad fucker like you live this long?

Tormund Giantsbane: I'm good at killing people.
