    A cowboy discovers world cinema

One of the many entries made for the collective project "To Each His Own Cinema", this one was directed by Joel & Ethan Coen takes us on an interesting and humored approach while presenting the movie watching experience from the perspective of a curious mind who doesn't know much about films (but he's willing to learn).

Texan cowboy Dan (Josh Brolin, with some Llewelyn Moss vibes) goes to an art-house cinema that is playing two foreign films: Renoir's classic "The Rules of the Game" and Nuri Bulgi Ceylan's "Climates". Not knowing exactly how to choose he starts a conversation with the ticket seller (Grant Heslov) who talks a little about both films - from typical conversation to unusual questions that relates with the cowboy's lifestyle and the film he'll choose to watch.

The Coens go after a very humored direction - with a small sense of danger to fool everyone - but their message, plain and simple, speaks volumes about the unexpected viewer, the one who isn't so versed about film genres and film experiences but they're inclined to experiment, see different realities and go beyond what Hollywood has to offer. It's a cute and special celebration on foreign subtitled films, cinema of the world and one that connects audiences and film lovers in a diversified manner. Plus, there's the directors suggestions with the mentioned films (if you haven't seen them) and the two other ones in the posters behind Brolin character ("The Seventh Seal" and "Jules et Jim", still posters in the background).

Living, watching and learning. I simply loved this one. 8/10.
