I watched this on netflix,The trailer is in english but every episode is in french,(I knew this was a French production, just confused by the trailer.) maybe that was the better option. The story starts 10 years after the original manhunt and successful capture of a serial killer who is at this point in time is in a psychiatric unit without hope of ever being released. After a grizzly discovery the detective who caught the serial killer is asked to join the new investigation and so starts this story. It's pretty good, but can get annoying like missing obvious suspects and clues that could be connected to the case at hand, which at times can become tedious and drawn out to get the point across to viewers. Most of the characters go through wimpy scenes with overplayed emotions that just get in the way, especially when reading subtitles that vanish in a blink of the eye in certain areas, so you miss a sentence as they last less than a second. As is the norm these days, the main protagonist has his personal demons and only functions using a full flask of alcohol and unlimited smokes including extreme nose bleeds from tension. The last episode is basically a race against time bringing the season to a full circle leaving an opening for a season 2.
The cinematography is beautiful. I thought that they did an excellent job in casting. There is a lot of interwoven symbolism throughout the series that held my interest. I would highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys a good psychological crime thriller.
5wd-8
The brilliant quality of lighting, camera and direction in the first 2 episodes slides into overly complex plotting, hacked editing, and character failures. The last episode is truly awful. I suppose the budget ran out, all spent early in the series. That hackneyed ending was infuriating and insulting, just to continue the Hirtman-Lecter into another season; a very cowardly producer, sadly.
Watch the first 2 episodes, then pretend a good ending, and drop it. Or, get your teeth-pulling pliers out.
Ugh. What a waste of potential.

This series depicted spectacular winter scenery. I was also impressed with the quality of the actors, especially those who played the roles of Martin and Julian. However, the plot was overly complicated; there were too many strands that were not really connected to the plot and were not resolved satisfactorily. In addition, I was very disappointed with the ending - unless, they are planning a second season.
This series was one of the worst series I have seen in years. No need to even mention any spoiler to tell you how terrible this series is:
If the detective had died in a car accident at the beginning of the story, nothing in the story would have changed, but there would be far less damage to innocent people and far less achievement for the BAD GUY at the end.
The hero basically is one of the dumbest characters ever written in any work of fiction, and in a very boring way, with zero physical or mental intelligence. When you finish the show either you are a psychopath, have been identifying yourself with the bad guy and you would be pleased or if you are a normal person, the utter hopelessness of the hero that you have been tolerating throughout the series overwhelmingly crushes you at the end.
Don't waste your time.
