Megan Suri in Inside (2023)
It Lives Inside: Megan Suri horror film reaches DVD in November
Megan Suri in Inside (2023)
The supernatural horror film It Lives Inside, which stars Megan Suri of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever, didn’t draw in many viewers when it reached theatres last Friday. It had an opening weekend of $2.6 million and finished in seventh place on the top 10. Maybe it will do better when it reaches home video – and we can confirm that Distribution Solutions, a division of Alliance Entertainment, will be giving the film a DVD release on November 7th. Copies are available for pre-order at This Link. We don’t have any information on a Blu-ray or 4K release at this time, but Amazon is also accepting pre-orders for the Prime Video digital release.

It’s a shame It Lives Inside didn’t have better box office, as it was good enough to earn an 8/10 review from JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols. That review can be read Here. The film...

‘It Lives Inside’ Review: A Horror Debut About First-Generation Immigrants Falls Short of Its Potential
Image
The encounter in the girls locker room initiates the nightmare scenario of It Lives Inside, Bishal Dutta’s jagged feature debut about a small town besieged by an ancient spirit.

Samidha (Megan Suri) and Tamira (Mohana Krishnan) stand across from each other in the dimly lit aisle, exchanging weighted stares. Culture and a shared history bind the two teenagers, whose reputations differ at their small, white suburban high school. Samidha goes by Sam now — an attempt to close the gap between her Indian culture and the American one embodied by her classmates. She would prefer to loiter around a campfire with her crush (Gage Marsh) than help her mother (Neeru Bajwa) prepare for puja.

Tamira is a more shadowy figure; her character seems mostly to be Sam’s opposite. The young woman, dressed in drab and ill-fitting clothes, sticks out. She inspires stares, whispers and jokes. When she shuffles through the hall,...

It Lives Inside: Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything We Know
Image
The complex inner workings of the inner world are the most complicated area of exploration next to the spiritual. These spaces are rarely understood and are often difficult to control. What happens when the two blend? What fresh horrors come forth as worlds intertwine, a spiritual entity attaches itself and wreaks havoc on the inner-scape. It Lives Inside is an upcoming horror thriller that will give moviegoers an inkling of such possibilities.

It Lives Inside is a 2023 horror film directed and written by Bishal Dutta. It is a piece predicated on a story that Dutta crafted alongside Ashish Mehta. And it is rooted and grounded in the fertile soil of childhood experience. More specifically, it finds its basis in the filmmaker's upbringing. For lovers of demon-themed terror films, it's a promising offering. It Lives Inside uses a demonic entity as the main focus of the film.

Cannes Leadership Changes Could Determine the Future of the World’s Greatest Film Festival (Column)
Image
The movie calendar can’t seem to find its old rhythm: Oscar season intersects with SXSW and “The Batman” is soaring in a period that was once a box-office dumping ground. But one element is returning to the scene right on schedule and it’s more than welcome in this column: Cannes hype!

While Covid case counts in Europe may be cause for concern, the world’s most glamorous celebration of the art form remains on track for its 75th edition as it returns to its usual May slot. Although the festival won’t announce its selections until April 14, the buzz machine has already begun with Tom Cruise expected to grace the Croisette with his pandemic-delayed “Tom Gun: Maverick” (a full two years after it was originally expected to land there), Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” and George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing.” Meanwhile, festival programmers have been combing...

Portugal’s Rebates Lure Foreign Shoots, Power Domestic Production
Image
Portugal’s cash rebate scheme, introduced in 2018, is attracting major international productions and new production outfits and facilities, and providing significant leverage for domestic film and TV productions.

Shoots slowed during the pandemic, with several projects lensed in bubbles, but production is expected to surge in the second half of 2021.

The current cash rebate is tabbed at 25/30% of eligible production spend and may be upwardly revised in the near future.

€22.5 million ($27.5 million) in total cash rebate has been disbursed since 2018, roughly equally split between international shoots and 100% Portuguese productions and co-productions.

High-profile projects include Ira Sachs’ “Frankie,” with Isabelle Huppert, Richard Stanley’s “The Color Out of Space,” starring Nicolas Cage, Marco Pontecorvo’s “Fatima,” with Harvey Keitel, and three Bollywood pics. These projects have accessed cash rebate per pic varying between €631,000 and €1.9 million ($2.4 million) Portugal is also shaking up its production eco-system. Jane Fonda Joins Apple & Skydance Animation’s ‘Luck’ In A Lead Role
Image
Two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda will play The Dragon in Apple and Skydance Animation’s upcoming Luck. The news comes a day after the two companies announced a multi-year film and TV agreement.

Luck follows the unluckiest girl in the world, who after stumbling upon the never-before-seen world of good and back luck, must join together with magical creatures to uncover a force more powerful than even luck itself. I hear Fonda’s is not the role Emma Thompson exited as the entire production of Luck has been re-conceived.

Dragon is the exuberant CEO of Good Luck and undisputed luckiest ancient being in all the land. The character is billed as being elegant, stylish and as persuasive as she is powerful. The only thing better than good luck is more good luck, so when bad luck starts to spin out of control, she must face her fears or risk losing good luck forever.

What Lies Beneath: The Startling Intensity of a Michelle Pfeiffer Performance
“Seriously?” asked the celebrated, thrice-Oscar-nominated actress of an overstepping journalist.

It was April 2018 and Michelle Pfeiffer was sitting on the stage of the Beacon Theatre beside director Brian De Palma and actor Al Pacino, her collaborators on the controversial gangster classic Scarface. And to the apt mystification of actress and onlookers alike, the moderator of the event, Jesse Kornbluth, wanted to know what Pfeiffer weighed in 1983.

Pfeiffer had reunited with De Palma and Pacino at that year’s Tribeca Film Festival for the 35th anniversary of the movie that propelled her to multi-million-dollar-paycheck, magazine-covering movie stardom. Pfeiffer was so intent on scoring the supporting role of Elvira Hancock—the abrasive, indolent, fashion-forward wife of Pacino’s vicious drug kingpin Tony Montana—that the then-little-known actress paid her own airfare from New York to Los Angeles to audition. The actress, who the year prior had tackled her first lead role in...

Warren Berlinger Dies: ‘Happy Days’, ‘Cannonball Run’ Actor Was 83

Warren Berlinger, a busy character actor whose numerous roles made him one of TV’s most familiar faces from the Kraft Theatre golden age through the Grace and Frankie streaming era, died Wednesday at the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, California. He was 83.

His death was confirmed by daughter Elizabeth. A cause has not been announced.

With a cherubic face that could seem simultaneously amiable and, along with the hint of an accent from his native Brooklyn, mischievous, Berlinger was a go-to actor for supporting and sidekick roles for decades, both in film, and television.
