[opening text crawl] On November 27, 2002 President George W. Bush and the U.S. Congress, pressured by the families of the victims of 9/11, established the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, known as the 9/11 Commission.

The Commission was charged with finding answers to questions including:
Why was the nation so unprepared for 9/11?
How could an attack of such magnitude have occurred on American soil?
What could have been done to prevent it?

The 10-person Commission:
Was in session for more than a year and a half.
Conducted interviews with more than 1,200 individuals.
Analyzed more than 2.5 million pages of documents.

The following is based on the 9/11 Commission Report, completed July 22, 2004.
