About A Donkey is a little movie with a lot of heart. The diversity of the characters adds flavor to a script that authentically depicts family relationships and life-stage issues. You may see yourself, your siblings, or other family members in the characters, and you'll find yourself routing for every one of them to overcome their challenges. Be prepared for witty dialog and amusing situations. In addition to the inevitable laughs, you might want a tissue handy. My eyes were moist with happy tears.
I had the pleasure of watching this at a film festival a while back, and I absolutely enjoyed it. A feel-good story about family -- plus, it has a donkey in it, so how can you not like that?! It was a unique story that I hadn't heard before, and I came away with a smile.
About a Donkey is also about: Depression, Family, Kindness and the ebb and flow of all three. The dialogue is hilarious. The situation is also hilarious but within that is a message of hope. It's a great film!
When I screened About a Donkey for inclusion in our festival I thought is was one of the nicest independent films of the year. A dramedy about a family with all the same psychosis you probably see in your own, and how their Dad's unaccountable decision to bring home a donkey (of all things) shakes them out of their ruts. The repartee amoungst the siblings is smart but does not feel contrived. You can feel the underlying affection in every exhibit of wit. These are all recognizably humans, making it up as they go along, and finding love that has gone missing.
This film has a lot of heart, wit and humour. You really begin to feel for these characters and this donkey. I found myself shockingly quite invested and was sad when it ended. Christina has done a briliant job with her direction. Everything was concise, intentional and had a great pace to it.
