Brad Pitt Renews Applause for Bradley Cooper’s Maestro
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt called Bradley Cooper’s Maestro “one of the best movies of this decade” during a conversation published by IndieWire on 2 July, adding that the Leonard Bernstein portrait “stays with me in every frame.” The endorsement revives praise Pitt first voiced onstage at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where he presented Cooper with the Outstanding Performer award and described the film as a “masterwork.”

Cooper’s second feature as director premiered at the New York Film Festival in October 2023 and reached Netflix two months later after a limited theatrical run that generated an estimated $300,000, the streamer’s strongest specialty debut in four years. It went on to secure seven Academy Award nominations—including picture, actor, actress and screenplay—though prizes ultimately eluded the production. Critics broadly commended Cooper’s physical performance and Carey Mulligan’s turn as Felicia Montealegre, with The Guardian praising the “head-flingingly heartfelt” energy of the character study.

Carey Mulligan movies: 14 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Carey Mulligan claimed her first Oscar nomination for her lead role in the 2009 coming-of-age saga “An Education.” Then the British actress once again collected bountiful awards nominations (and some wins) for her role as a #MeToo- era femme fatale avenger in the darkly comic thriller “Promising Young Woman.”

Like many of the directors whose names appear on her resume, first-time helmer Emerald Fennell -- the Season 2 showrunner for ”Killing Eve” who also plays Camila Parker Bowles in “The Crown” -- has a distinctive vision that allows the actress to inhabit abundant shades of emotion, from ballsy and badass to pastel-pink and girly.

In 2022, her great work was in "She Said," based on the intense investigation into sexual allegations against Hollywood mega-producer Harvey Weinstein. She followed in 2023 with possibly her greatest performance yet in "Maestro" opposite Bradley Cooper.

Take a photo gallery tour of Mulligan’s 14 best movies, ranked worst to best.

‘Étoile’ Team Explains How Their Ballet-Centric Series Sounds Alarm On “Fragility Of The Arts”
Image
Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino have embarked on their second foray into the world of ballet with their latest series, Prime Video’s Étoile.

After previously working for one season on the 2012 drama Bunheads, Sherman-Palladino says her desire to tell another ballet-centric story was fueled by one thing: “vengeance.”

She’s joking, sort of.

“I wasn’t done, and I figured, let’s go back,” she said at the Deadline Studio at Prime Experience. “The first time, it was more about coming of age, and then 10 years later, I assume they’ve all come of age. We thought, how fun it would be to go backstage into if they become professional ballerinas?”

See the panel discussion in the video here and photos of the event below.

Set in New York and Paris, Étoile follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies as they embark on an ambitious...

Agatha Christie dispenses writing tips from beyond the grave
Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan in Maestro (2023)
As part of its BBC Maestro series, mystery thriller novelist Agatha Christie provides a writing masterclass. She died in 1976.

The dead speak! Thanks to the modern miracle of AI, Agatha Christie, who died in 1976, has returned from the great beyond to help budding novelists the world over.

It’s all part of the BBC Maestro series of online video lessons, in which big-name experts provide masterclasses in their fields of expertise. Previous BBC Maestro classes have brought in Brian Cox, who provides a five-hour acting course, novelist Harlen Coben, and veteran storyteller Alan Moore. One thing these people all have in common, you may have noticed, is that they’re alive.

Christie, the creator of Inspector Hercule Poirot and the writer of some 66 novels, has been brought back to life through a mixture of technologies. Digital deepfakery has been applied to the actor Vivien Keene to re-create the late novelist...

The BBC Has Resurrected Agatha Christie With AI, And It Sounds As Ghoulish As You'd Expect
Image
Agatha Christie is one of the most prolific crime authors to ever do it. She's practically the face of the murder-mystery novel, with her work being adapted many times across the mediums of radio, stage, television and film for decades (even if she wasn't a fan of most of them). There's something to be said about how her stories, many of which dabble in the darkness lurking within our internal shadows, still strike a chord with readers. The words speak for themselves, but a concerning new development from the BBC indicates that the ones from Christie's mouth will be spoken by a computer program.

Today, BBC Studios announced that it has collaborated with the Agatha Christie estate to launch a writing course on their education-based streaming service BBC Maestro. It sounds like a great idea until the revelation that it will use an AI likeness of the famed author to...

Dwayne Johnson Goes Dramatic in Trailer for A24 Film ‘The Smashing Machine’
Image
Dwayne Johnson is taking a prestige swing in the new A24 drama “The Smashing Machine,” and the first trailer for the film shows the blockbuster movie star conjuring a performance of a very different sort.

Johnson plays UFC legend Mark Kerr in the biographical drama, which charts the up-and-down career of the mixed martial arts fighter during the no-holds-barred era of the UFC alongside his girlfriend, played by Emily Blunt.

The film is written and directed by Benny Safdie, one half of the Safdie Brothers directing duo, who gained acclaim with their gritty, stress-inducing films “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems.”

The movie also marks something of a pivot for Johnson, whose career was built on positioning himself as a movie star and who has almost exclusively played heroes for the last decade. He appears to be putting in the work — the performance is somewhat transformative, with Johnson even donning an accent.

'Stop Painting Me Into a Victim Narrative': Matt Bomer Opens Up About Losing Superman Role
Image
Matt Bomer has starred in many projects over the years, and one of his career-defining roles was the one of the charming and charismatic Neal Caffrey in The White Collar. He went to star in many other critically acclaimed projects, including 2023's Maestro, the limited series Fellow Travelers, and now the Hulu comedy Mid-Century Modern.

However, back in the 2000s, he almost became Clark Kent in an unmade Superman: Flyby project written by J.J. Abrams. The actor had previously addressed losing the role, alluding that it had something to do with his sexuality, as he was outed in the early 2000s. However, Bomer just went online to clarify that he is proud of his career and slammed his portrayal as a victim for not becoming Superman, per Deadline.

Bomer had mentioned that he auditioned for months for the role, which would've included a three-movie project. The actor alluded that his sexuality was "weaponized" against him.

Matt Bomer Denounces Victim Mentality Regarding Losing Superman Over Sexuality
Image
In a now deleted Tweet, Matt Bomer had some strong words for those who paint him as a victim.

Matt Bomer came out as gay in 2012 and has played several gay characters since then. His most well known role to date is definitely still as Neal Caffrey in White Collar, but he also portrayed Larry Trainor aka Negative Man in DC’s Doom Patrol.

The Tweet in reference was towards a news outlet that implied he lost the role of Superman due to his sexuality. The Tweet, via Deadline, read:

Image
Matt Bomer is looking back at turning down Barbie.

Back in November 2023, the 47-year-old Mid-Century Modern actor revealed that he auditioned to play one of the Kens in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie, but turned down the role because he didn’t want to “spend extensive time away from his family.”

However, now in a new interview published on April 10, Matt revealed the real reason why he turned down the role.

Keep reading to find out more…While speaking with Business Insider, Matt turned down the Ken role to appear in Bradley Cooper‘s movie Maestro instead.

Matt Bomer Was Circling Playing a Ken in ‘Barbie,’ but Turned It Down for ‘Maestro’: It ‘Wouldn’t Have Been the Same Experience’ if I Tried to Do Both
Image
Matt Bomer could’ve appeared in not just one, but two Oscar best picture nominees in 2023 had he decided he had ken-ough time between “Maestro” and “Barbie.” The “Mid-Century Modern” star previously shared that he had auditioned to play one of the Kens in Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster comedy, but eventually exited talks to spend time with his family. Speaking with Business Insider, the actor reveals that he also decided to step away from “Barbie” to have more time to focus on Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro.”

“Even though my part in ‘Maestro’ was smaller, Bradley was so collaborative with me from the get-go,” Bomer said. “It was such an immersive experience that to have just flown in from London to film my scenes [in ‘Barbie’] really quick and fly back to London — I feel like ‘Maestro’ wouldn’t have been the same experience for me.”

‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Cast and Character Guide
Image
“The White Lotus” Season 3 is finally here. As is always the case with the HBO anthology series, though, it’s returned with a new cast of actors and characters for viewers to follow and either grow to love or revile. “The White Lotus” has also left its Hawaii and Italy hotels behind in favor of a new exotic setting: a wellness retreat in Thailand. Prepare for a lot of awkward social moments, barely hidden resentment, and, of course, some murder.

Here are all the characters you need to know in “The White Lotus” Season 3 as well as who play them.

When Bradley Cooper Felt ‘Insecure’ After Learning Leonardo DiCaprio Was First Choice For Nightmare Alley
Image
Bradley Cooper wasn’t the first choice for Nightmare Alley?(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Turns out, Bradley Cooper wasn’t Guillermo del Toro’s first pick for the role in Nightmare Alley. That spot originally belonged to Leonardo DiCaprio, and Cooper didn’t take that revelation lightly.

Back in 2019, Deadline reported that DiCaprio had signed on to star in del Toro’s noir psychological thriller. It was supposed to be the follow-up to the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water, and fans were pumped to see DiCaprio and del Toro team up. But for reasons never made public, DiCaprio quietly stepped away from the project later that year.

Enter Cooper. He stepped into the lead role of Stanton “Stan” Carlisle, a slick carny turned cunning con man. But instead of feeling triumphant, Cooper spiraled a bit. In a candid chat with Mahershala Ali for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, he admitted,...

Bradley Cooper Chooses Love Over Leonardo DiCaprio: Is Gigi Hadid Reason Behind The ‘Broken Bro Code?’
Image
Has Bradley Cooper Distanced Himself From Leonardo DiCaprio Because Of Gigi Hadid?(Photo Credit –Facebook/Instagram)

Bradley Cooper and Leonardo DiCaprio were once inseparable. Their friendship was solid as ever—until Gigi Hadid entered the picture. According to Radar Online, the 50-year-old Maestro star has reportedly distanced himself from his old buddy, not out of personal choice, but because Hadid isn’t interested in any lingering ties to her ex. Sources say the supermodel still holds some resentment toward DiCaprio, given how things ended between them.

Bradley Cooper Chooses Love Over Loyalty

Gigi Hadid’s romance with the Titanic actor fizzled out in early 2023. By October of that year, she had moved on with Cooper, and that’s when the shift happened. Cooper, seemingly out of loyalty to Hadid, let his friendship with DiCaprio go cold.

“Their friendship has pretty much evaporated and it’s almost unfathomable you’d ever...

Superman: Major Cameo Leaks As Jor-El Actor Is Finally Revealed - Spoilers
Image
With test screenings fully underway for James Gunn's upcoming Superman, it was only a matter of time before spoilers started to surface and it looks like a major cameo has found its way online.

Spoilers Ahead

While the rumor mill had floated the names of Tom Cruise and Chris Pratt possibly being in the mix for Jor-El in recent weeks, the noted leaker ViewerAnon has learned the actor's true identity, and, while it's unsurprisingly one of Gunn's former Guardians of the Galaxy stars, it's an actor we'd only heard, not seen before.

As per his sources, 12x Academy Award-nominee Bradley Cooper (The Hangover; Guardians of the Galaxy; Avengers: Endgame) has been enlisted to play Jor-El, the father of Superman.

He'll only appear in the first few minutes of the movie, so while it's not really a major plot spoiler, it does seemingly reveal that we'll once again be...

Will Netflix ever win an Oscar for Best Picture? Ted Sarandos says “We have to make a movie that people love”
Image
With over 300 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix is the biggest name in the world of streaming, but the company is still chasing Hollywood’s top honour: the Oscar for Best Picture. Although Netflix hasn’t won Best Picture, it’s come close several times; in fact, the studio received the most Oscar nominations out of any studio at the recent Academy Awards ceremony.

While speaking with Variety, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos was asked if he’s disappointed that Netflix has yet to win an Oscar for Best Picture. “It’s hard for me to say, ‘Do they have it out for Netflix?’ when we’ve been the most-nominated studio for the past three years,” Sarandos said. “There’s something about [the Academy] — you nominate the movies that you respect and admire, and you vote for best picture for the movie that you love. We have to make a movie that people love.“

The fourth and final season of the HBO comedy kicks off with an episode that takes place during the Civil War, decades before the rest of the series happens. Cooper plays a crook named Elijah Gemstone, who murders and robs a pastor. But when a group of Confederate soldiers...

Bradley Cooper Almost Starred in One of Ben Affleck’s Worst Ever Role That He Will Never Recreate Again That Won Him a Razzie
Image
Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck are two superstars of Hollywood that made their name around the same time. However, while both are Oscar winners who have given us some of the best movies of the current era, Affleck was already a star, when Cooper was struggling to establish himself, in the late 90s.

This, however, led to an unlikely blessing in disguise for Cooper, who auditioned for arguably one of the worst Ben Affleck roles until now. It happened for the 1998-thriller Armageddon, which boasted of superstars such as Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, and Owen Wilson.

By 1998, Ben Affleck had already made a mark in Hollywood. He co-wrote and starred in Good Will Hunting (1997), earning an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. This accolade catapulted him into leading roles,...

How Tall Is Carey Mulligan? Her Height Compared to Co-Stars & Favorite Heels
Image
British actress Carey Mulligan is known for her timeless style and elegant presence, both on-screen and on the red carpet. She is 5 feet 6 inches (167.6 cm) and stands slightly taller than the average British woman (typically 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 4 inches or 160–163 cm). Her height, paired with her sophisticated fashion choices, enhances her commanding presence in Hollywood.

In an interview with Star Magazine, Mulligan suggested she might be even taller, saying:

I’m 5ft 7ins and weigh 8st 5lbs… After I had my appendix out, during the London run of The Seagull, I went down to eight stone [114 pounds] and realized my brain doesn’t work when I’m that thin.

On the red carpet, heel height can shift perceptions of celebrity stature. Standing 6 feet ½ inches (184.2 cm), Bradley Cooper often towers over Mulligan, but with the right stilettos or platform heels, she can effortlessly narrow the visual gap.

Bradley Cooper and Carey...

Academy Awards 2025: Netflix nominations and how to watch and stream the Oscars
Image
Last year, Maestro was the Netflix movie with the most nominations at the Academy Awards. In 2025, Emilia Pérez was the most-nominated Netflix-produced film. In other words, the streamer appears to do an excellent job making films with a heavy music influence. One might wonder if Netflix can work its magic again this year and give us another film like those two.

But Emilia Pérez is not the only Oscar nominee that your favorite streaming service has released. Five other films are also on the list, though they have just one nomination each compared to Emilia Pérez, which has 13. That is as many as any Academy Award-nominated film has this year.

The movie has a decent chance of winning Best Picture, too, though it may not be the favorite. Variety, for instance, picks Anora to take home the most important trophy of the night. We should hope that the site is not correct,...

Bradley Cooper Isn’t the Only One- Disgraced Director Woody Allen Also Felt Oscars Are Meaningless
Image
The flashing cameras, the glittering gowns, the emotional speeches thanking managers, spouses, and baristas who always got the coffee order just right, it’s all part of the grand performance that is the Academy Awards.

Every year, the Oscars roll around, and actors pretend to be just so happy for the person who took home the golden statuette instead of them. Cue the tight-lipped smiles and aggressive clapping.

But beneath the glitz, there’s an undercurrent of skepticism. Some actors and directors are perhaps tired of the relentless campaigning and the endless interviews. Hence, they have openly dismissed the Oscars as a meaningless affair. And leading this group of disillusioned Hollywood veterans are none other than Bradley Cooper and Woody Allen.
