In 2024's Wicked, Jonathan Bailey is taking on the role of Fiyero Tigelaar, a character who is surprisingly similar to the role that originally boosted him to fame. Wicked is an upcoming movie adaptation based on the stage musical and the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire. Netflix is the home to countless comedies, but some stand out more than others. Crashing, a Channel 4 mini-series, found a home on Netflix -- and a whole new audience. With only six episodes in a single season, few people would have heard about the mini-series, which was released in 2016. Short, binge-able, and hugely funny, Crashing comes from the familiar and brilliant mind of Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The show charts the journeys of six people in their 20s who have decided to become property guardians of an abandoned hospital wing. With minimal rent and a large space, these six acquaintances manage to make this arrangement work, which is also a cheeky commentary on the cost of living crisis. However, their convoluted and wild lives keep the show interesting as they crash and burn against each other, inevitably. Each character is a chaotic ball of energy that brings their own troubles, traumas,...

Jessica Kirson is bringing her unfiltered humor to Hulu.
Though a premiere date is being kept under wraps, the veteran comic has inked a deal for her next hour of standup. It marks Kirson’s second special.

There have been many Tomb Raider video games over the decades, giving gamers the chance to play as British archaeologist Lara Croft as she goes on globe-trotting adventures, “searching for lost artefacts and infiltrating dangerous tombs and ruins.” Angelina Jolie played the character in two feature films, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003). Alicia Vikander took over the role in the 2018 reboot Tomb Raider – and she was planning to return for a sequel, but then the project fell apart. Now Tomb Raider is set to receive a live-action TV series adaptation on Amazon’s Prime Video, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, whose credits include Crashing, Fleabag, No Time to Die, and Killing Eve, writing and developing the show. During an interview with The Wrap, Amazon MGM Studios television head Vernon Sanders revealed that the search for the show’s Lara Croft will begin soon.

Lionsgate has released the first trailer and poster for “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” a festive comedy set to hit theaters on November 8, 2024. Directed by Dallas Jenkins, creator of the popular series “The Chosen,” this adaptation of Barbara Robinson’s beloved children’s novel promises to bring small-town charm and holiday spirit to audiences nationwide.
The film follows the antics of the Herdman children – infamously known as the worst kids in town – as they unexpectedly take over their local church’s Christmas pageant. This chaotic takeover sets the stage for a heartwarming journey that may reveal the true meaning of Christmas to a bewildered community.
The star-studded cast includes Judy Greer, Pete Holmes, Elizabeth Tabish (“The Chosen”), and Lauren Graham. Graham’s involvement is particularly noteworthy, given her iconic status as Lorelai Gilmore in the enduringly popular “Gilmore Girls” series.

Some television shows we miss the most have only lasted one season.
Many of these series found their way into our hearts because of their emotional heart or their wit.
Some we’ve loved for decades, and others are newer favorites, but the TV Fanatic staff wished that many of these shows had gotten better resolutions or a fairer chance.
There are so many one-season wonders that never received a fair chance.
While we’d love to showcase all of them, here are nine that remain in our hearts.

My So-Called Life (ABC)
When My So-Called Life premiered in 1994, it faced heavy competition. Time slot-wise, it was up against Friends and other great shows of the period.
In terms of similar shows that aired on different days but were aimed at teens, the biggest competition was probably from Beverly Hills 90210.

Hollywood (2020): A post-wwii setting with diverse characters, focusing on aspiring actors rather than government workers like Fellow Travelers. Crashing (2016): Short and sweet with great performances, Jonathan Bailey shines in this series about a character developing feelings for a gay man. It's A Sin (2021): A thoughtful representation of LGBTQ+ characters in the 1980s during the AIDS crisis, similar to Fellow Travelers in its directness and heartfelt portrayal.
With only two episodes left of Fellow Travelers, viewers will likely be looking for something else to watch after the series finale on December 15, 2023. Fellow Travelers is one of the best new shows on Showtime and arguably one of the best historical miniseries of the entire year, thoughtfully bringing Thomas Mallon's 2007 novel of the same name to life. If you're Dominican, chances are you're familiar with morir soñando, a simple but refreshingly crisp batida (milkshake) made with milk, orange juice, and vanilla extract. As simple as the three-ingredient drink seems, there's a reason it's given such a poetic name. "Morir soñando" translates as "to die dreaming," and after just one sip, one instantly feels like they've been transported into a dream - even if just for a matter of seconds. That was exactly the feeling Dominican American comedians and real-life besties Sasha Merci and Glorelys Mora, who both grew up in uptown (Merci specfically in the Bronx), wanted audiences to feel when they created their first all-Dominican comedy show back in 2019. On Monday, Nov. 6, the Morir Soñando show took over the historic United Palace, formerly Loew's 175th Street Theatre, in Washington Heights. It was the first show in the New York Comedy Festival to include an all-Dominican lineup,...

Exclusive: Los Angeles-based Premiere Entertainment Group has acquired worldwide rights to romantic comedy Plan B, starring Emmy-award winner Jamie Lee (HBO’s Crashing) and Jon Heder.
Premiere Entertainment will launch worldwide sales of the film at the upcoming American Film Market with all territories currently available.
Directed by first-timer Brandon Tamburri, from an original screenplay by Tamburri and Jean Monpere, Plan B follows the story of Piper, a young woman who, against better judgment, decides to sleep with a successful businessman and tells him he’s the father of her unborn baby after a one-night stand with her awkward neighbor leaves her pregnant.
The Joke Zero and Future Proof Films pic is produced by DJ Dodd, Erika Hampson, and Tamburri. Cast also includes Oscar Nominee Tom Berenger, Shannon Elizabeth, and SAG Award Winner Kate Flannery (NBC’s The Office). Rounding out the ensemble cast are Michael Lombardi (FX’s Rescue Me), Subhah Agarwal (HBO’s Westworld), Daniel K. Isaac (Showtime’s Billions), NFL star Vernon Davis, and Danielle Perez (A24’s Dicks: The Musical).
Full Synopsis reads: After a fun night out, rebellious writer Piper (Jamie Lee) drunkenly sleeps with her awkward neighbor, Evan (Jon Heder), and winds up pregnant. When she attempts to tell Evan the news, Piper quickly realizes that he’s not the long-term guy for her and the baby. After receiving news from publishing exec Jane (Kate Flannery) that her dream of a book deal is coming to fruition, she needs to find a stable relationship – and quick. Going against the advice of her best friend Maya (Subhah Agarwal), Piper opts to keep the pregnancy a secret until she can find a more successful guy to sleep with and hopefully start a family.
After a few failed and comical attempts at finding a match, Piper stumbles into Cameron (Michael Lombardi), a financial advisor and regular at the café she works at. Everything appears to be going as planned as Cameron falls for Piper and is ecstatic about the pregnancy. Cameron introduces Piper to his parents Joe (Tom Berenger) and Diane and fends off advances from his flirty boss Anne (Shannon Elizabeth) along the way. While juggling her double life, Piper continues to bump into her neighbor Evan, who has no idea that he is the father of her soon-to-be-born baby. However, Piper’s evil scheme starts to unravel when she starts second-guessing herself, realizing that she could be making the biggest mistake of her life.
Carlos Rincon, SVP of acquisitions at Premiere Entertainment, negotiated the deal with producer DJ Dodd on behalf of Joke Zero and Future Proof Films.

“I Am Not For Everyone” features stories ranging from Holmes’ religious upbringing to quips about his newfound perspective as a first-time father. You can watch a trailer above.
“I opened for Bill Burr in 2004 in Peoria, Il, in my third year of standup. I did very poorly,” he tells Deadline. “After the show, not one person bought my merch, a bumper sticker that read ‘Yippie Ki Yay, Melonfarmer.’ I was humiliated. So you can imagine what a thrill it was when, nineteen years later, Bill said he wanted to produce my first Netflix special, I Am Not For Everybody. Thankfully, it seems Bill has a bad memory.”

Finnish series creators are ready to laugh – also at themselves.
“While cultures vary, a fish-out-of-water experience is universal,” says writer Beata Harju, behind “Lay Low and Don’t Be Fabulous” about a woman who just can’t let go of her ex. Or of her Finnish roots.
“Finland is the perfect setting for a culture-clash comedy, because our networking events are so silent, you can hear the crunch of a cucumber.”
The show, set to bow in the Focus on Finland showcase at Mipcom, won’t be the only one led by complex female protagonists. In “True North,” three women fight for power after Egyptian refugee, Layla, joins a catering company with a secret.
“Through placing the story in [Spain’s] Marbella, where international jet-setters and social media celebrities live next to refugees and locals struggling to get by, we create a unique story around some of the inequalities of today’s society,...

Fox will not be moving ahead with “Welcome to Flatch” Season 3.
“While audience response was not as strong as we had hoped, we were thrilled with the creativity of the enormously talented Jenny Bicks and Paul Feig, as well as the outstanding, dedicated cast and crew they assembled,” a Fox spokesperson told TheWrap. “We look forward to collaborating with them again in the future and are thankful for all of our partners at Lionsgate, Jenny’s Perkins Street Productions, Paul’s Feigco Entertainment, BBC Studios’ Angie Stephenson and Charlie Cooper and Daisy May Cooper.”
Shortly after the WGA strike started in May, Fox announced updates for its scripted series. The only two series the network hadn’t made an announcement about were “Welcome to Flatch” and “HouseBroken,” both of which were up for a third season.

Plenty of haunted, Halloween and holiday options will crop up on Netflix in the month of October. The harvest doesn’t seem too lean despite the almost five-month writers strike that viewers are sure to feel next year, but at least the WGA and AMPTP have reached a deal, and hopefully, SAG-AFTRA is not too far behind. Luckily, Halloween and fall have a classic canon of films and TV shows that stretches back decades, and some of those staple watches will be available through Netflix throughout the month.
