There is just something interesting about the alien invader movies, but more than often such movies happen to be made on a low budget. And while "Drone Wars" were indeed on a low budget, it was actually a surprisingly nice movie for what it turned out to be. Now, don't jump on the horses just yet, I am not saying that it is a fantastic movie, merely that it was watchable and entertaining enough for what it was given its limitations.
While "Drone Wars" hardly can be described as being innovative or revolutionary, then it does make fair use of an already well-enough established concept idea.
The special effects in the movie were adequate, though you shouldn't set yourself up for something spectacular. I have seen much better CGI effects in other Sci-Fi movies, just as I have seen much worse. So on that account, "Drone Wars" were doing adequately. The effects were there, and they served their purpose well enough, just don't expect a myriad of bedazzling CGI effects.
Now, you might be a bit hesitant about the movie given it stars Corin Nemec, and given his track record of movies, who can blame you? But don't write him off just yet, because this was actually one of his better movies, and he did perform quite well here. And most of the movie was centered on him, so he is in focus a lot throughout the course of the movie, and he managed to carry the movie quite well.
While "Drone Wars" did indeed a generic movie, it still had some entertaining aspects to it and some good moments. So if you enjoy the Sci-Fi genre, and is looking for a light Sci-Fi movie, then "Drone Wars" could perhaps be well enough worth watching.

The awful CGI was bad enough. But then they scan the layout of a weapon with... a soldering iron ! And of course it reveals the complete contents of the weapon, what it does, etc.
Either this movie is created by total idiots, or for total idiots. Either way, not worth watching at all.

So, I am going to be very honest here;
While the idea of the film is quite good, the execution is done badly overall, the CGI (or 'Badly edited Jpegs of aliens') is hilariously bad done.
The story and most of the acting was done well tho, and I did enjoy the storyline that was there.
One has to say though, they were on a budget that didn't allow for a lot of fancy hollywood-costing CGI and they worked around that pretty well. The directing and acting was awesome and I don't think many could have done better considering this low budget they had to work with.
Sure, it's not Marvel, or DC, it's not a universal top-budget film, but overall, I laughed at the bad CGI and enjoyed the things that were done well.
Seeing that, I give it a 6 -for effort- mostly.

Despite lacking true tension, Drone Wars does a very serviceable job in bringing exactly what you would expect.....drone wars and action.
However, the script is fairly flat, the acting is all over the place (some good, some bad), and the general effects are pretty meh.
There's SOOOO many worse B- flicks out there, but this just doesn't stand out from the pack and it doesn't have a lot of memorable moments throughout.
However, the general concept isn't too bad. I enjoyed bits and pieces here and there. Some of the score was cheesy, but worked for me. The editing had some yikes moments, but then there was also some very commendable stuff.
Overall, If uou enjoy these types of mindless action flicks, it's truly decent I guess? Not sure I would recommend it, but maybe I would recommend like 20 minutes of the whole film

There are only 2 reasons to watch this movie, Whitney Moore, and Verona Blue. Otherwise, this movie is a total pass, a Dog with Fleas, a Hot Babe with massive STD's. Poor acting, erratic plot, Low Budget of Low Budget SFX.
These Low Budget Alien Invader movies are usually KIND OF Fun. This one is just painful to watch. It's like something the Crusty SyFy channel would only air at like 2am.
Given the choice of watching this movie or hitting yourself over the head with a 2x4....... Take the 2x4 beating, Trust Me.
You have been Warned.

- TriviaThis movie repeats the "aliens coming for our natural resources" trope. In reality, every single one of Earth's natural resources is available in larger quantities (and without the need to start a war with mankind) elsewhere in the solar system.
- GoofsTowards the end, as the mothership is coming down in flames, a busy LA highway can be seen, with normal heavy traffic running.
