In the 1978 remake of the 1956 classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers, what would Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, and Jeff Goldblum have done if they had cell phones and cameras recording everything that happened during the pod people's overtaking of planet Earth? The 2019 clever young adult horror film Assimilate examines whether such marauding would take place with today's technology at our disposal. It is a surprisingly taut and fun iteration of one of the genre's most iconic entries and is currently streaming on Prime Video. The film benefits from the excellent chemistry of its three teenage leads, Zach (Joel Courtney), Randy (Calum Worthy), and Kayla (Andi Matichak), who endure the horrifying process of seeing their friends and loved ones become possessed by an alien lifeform. Director John Murlowski's crisp pacing also makes Assimilate a thrilling ride and a creative version of one of horror's most tried and true tropes.

Jade begins with an animated sequence telling us that Jade and her brother Brandon came to live in Albuquerque, New Mexico after their parents were murdered in London. Why or by whom they were killed isn’t explained. Nor is exactly how they ended up in a street gang, or how that led to Jade accidentally killing her brother, made clear. But whatever the reason, she’s sworn never to use a gun again.

Once the film turn to live action, we see Jade dropping in to see Layla who is not happy to see her. That might be because the baby she’s carrying will never know its father, thanks to Jade’s errant bullet.

Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.

A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) co-created the show and will star as catcher Carson Shaw.

Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).

Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.

Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.

The second dictionary entry for assimilate is the most appropriate one for this movie. It says ‘regard as similar, liken’. And in Assimilate we see three friends making a web series about their town discover that their neighbours are being killed and replaced by creatures who are perfect copies of their victims. Seemingly the perfect story for some sci-fi horror.

This relatively low budget affair managed to get a good cast line-up for its lead roles. Jim Gaffigan and Joel Courtney will star in Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company’s “Jesus Revolution,” based on the true story of a national spiritual awakening among a group of teenaged hippies in Southern California in the early 1970s, it was announced on Friday.

In the film, Courtney will play Greg Laurie, a counterculture teen in the late 1960s who joined the Jesus revolution in Southern California and went on to start Harvest Christian Fellowship, one of the largest congregations in America. Gaffigan will star as Chuck Smith, the real-life pastor of Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa. Smith served as a mentor to Laurie and famously opened his church to hippies.

Exclusive: Jim Gaffigan and Joel Courtney have been tapped to lead the faith-based feature Jesus Revolution for Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company, producer of the Jeremy Camp biopic, I Still Believe. Written by Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, and directed by Gunn, film is inspired by the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the early 1970s and its origins within a community of teenaged hippies in Southern California.

We’ve got a fun trailer for a new sci-fi horror film to share with you today for a movie called Assimilate. The story centers around three friends who are making a web series about their small town, and in the process they find that their neighbors are being killed and replaced by creatures who can become perfect copies of their victims.

The movie comes from director John Murlowski and it seems like a mix of film like Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Species. Here’s the synopsis:

Katherine McNamara of "Shadowhunters," which Freeform has announced will not return after its third season ends, will join the cast of The CW series "Arrow" in a recurring role, according to TV Line.

McNamara, who also has appeared in 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' and 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure,' reportedly will play a thief named Maya during the seventh season of "Arrow," which premieres on Oct. 15.

In June, IMDb broke the news that McNamara will appear in 'Replicate,' a sci-fi feature directed by John Murlowski. Calum Worthy ("American Vandal"), Joel Courtney ('Super 8'), and Andi Matichak ('Halloween') also have been added to the cast of that film, which does not yet have an official release date.

Also this summer, the "Arrow" cast teased the show's potential crossover with the upcoming "Batwoman" series while visiting the IMDboat at San Diego Comic-Con. Check out the full video.

The actress, best known for her role as demon-hunter Clary Fray in Freeform fantasy drama "Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments," plays a character named Hannah in 'Replicate,' a sci-fi feature directed by John Murlowski.

Starring Calum Worthy ("American Vandal"), Joel Courtney ('Super 8'), and Andi Matichak ('Halloween'), the film follows three friends making a web series about their town who discover that their neighbors are being killed and replaced by creatures who are perfect copies of their victims. The movie was shot in October 2015 and a release date has yet to be set, but McNamara's involvement has just been revealed.

McNamara and her "Shadowhunters" co-stars were in the spotlight this week as Freeform announced it will end the show (based on Cassandra Clare’s popular book YA series "The Mortal Instruments") after its third season, ordering two extra episodes that will wrap the story in spring 2019.
