Action star Vin Diesel has quietly revealed the first footage from his upcoming (and long-awaited) sequel, Riddick 4. Officially titled Riddick: Furya, the sci-fi action follow-up will explore the mysterious origins of Diesel’s title character, who started life as a mysterious intergalactic convict way back in 2000’s Pitch Black. The lore has since greatly expanded, with Riddick: Furya expected to bring back on of Diesel’s best characters for a cinematic epic.

While the footage doesn’t show too much (you can check it out below), it does find Diesel back in the black goggles and sporting the kind of look of repressed rage that the character is known for. Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast and action movie superstar Vin Diesel combined his two favorite things for this panned fantasy action movie, and it’s coming to free streaming. Released back in 2015, The Last Witch Hunter takes inspiration from a character that Diesel himself made for his Dungeons & Dragons campaign, and follows Kaulder, who manages to slay the all-powerful Witch Queen some 800 years ago. The divisive sci-fi movie that made Vin Diesel an action hero has now found a new streaming home. Released back in 2000, Pitch Black features a star-making turn from Diesel, and launched the now fan-favorite Riddick franchise, introducing Diesel as the mysterious Richard B. Riddick, a former soldier-turned-mercenary-turned-criminal who finds himself crash landing on an alien planet inhabited by monsters who thrive in the dark. Oh, and an eclipse is coming.

Directed by David Twohy and co-written by Twohy and brothers Ken and Jim Wheat, Pitch Black features Radha Mitchell, Cole Hauser, Claudia Black, and Keith David as some of the other crew members who come to rely on Diesel’s untrustworthy antihero to get them off the planet alive. Germany’s film and TV industries will kick off 2025 with an overhaul to the country’s funding system for productions that, besides providing a local boost, is also good news for Hollywood.

The German parliament on Friday, in its last session before being dissolved, pushed through a watered down version of the country’s long-gestating new film funding law that will basically streamline the process through which local productions get subsidies that are financed by various levies, including on movie admission tickets.

The still partly provisional new law also raised Germany’s existing cash back production grant by 5% to 30%, which “makes Germany more competitive for incoming productions,” says producer Philipp Kreuzer, who is among the founders of Munich-based Penzing Studios and has been servicing Hollywood productions such as the second season of Nicole Kidman-starrer “Nine Perfect Strangers” and “Cliffhanger 2″ (pictured above).

Speaking with Screen Rant to promote her new movie Dirty Angels, Rose shared that it has been some time since she heard anything new regarding xXx 4. "I haven't heard anything. I haven't heard anything since 1974," she laughed. "No, I don't know. I would hope so because I would love to work with that cast and crew again. [They're] incredible people." As for what is holding xXx 4 up, Rose believed that "Vin [Diesel]'s busy doing lots of Fast and The Furious 312 and I don't know, but that would be, that was another really fun mission movie, I guess might've been my only other real mission movie, but very different tonally than Dirty Angels."

Theres no confirmed release date for Riddick: Furya, but Diesel has teased that itll explore Riddicks origin story.

Ive always thought it was really cool that Diesel leveraged Universals desire to have him make a cameo appearance in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift to score the rights to the Riddick character. This has meant that Diesel has complete ownership of the Riddick franchise and, as a result, complete creative control of his big-screen outings.

Although eleven years have passed since the release of the third film in the Riddick franchise, star Vin Diesel has always kept hope alive that he would someday be re-teaming with franchise mastermind David Twohy on another Riddick adventure. According to Deadline, Diesel will begin production on Furya on Aug. 26, 2024, with shooting set to occur in Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
