Amy Winehouse

I'm not an Amy Winehouse fan, I think she was a good songwriter but I'm not keen on her voice. However this film is not just for fans, it's brutal honesty makes it uncomfortable to watch at times. She was needy and caused a lot of her own problems, despite the family and press choosing to blame her ex, Blake, for everything that Amy became.

My gripe is that there's a lot of the story missing from the film. Having been around when her life was splashed all over the press, seeing the sight of her play live on TV shows and festivals while barely being able to lift her head. I'll also never forget the blood stained shoes from her injecting between her toes, and how she became a caricature of herself.

I definitely recommend a watch of this film, whether you're a fan or not. The rock ''n' roll lifestyle may appear glamorous but addiction really isn't. But Sam Taylor-Wood could've done a better job of detailing her life. It seems like her family have had a lot of input and her father especially comes across as the person who tried to save Amy but in reality, he seems to have milked her success and made a lot from her.

Wasn't really familiar with all the details of the rise and fall of Amy and this movie is a well written and produced depiction. Loved that there was a lot of her music played throughout. Was a bit slow at points where there was no need i.e sitting in a room alone. It was sad to see what a grip Blake had on her, and it was really a shame to see someone with such talent and an incredible voice fall ever further down the wrong path. The movie didn't hold back showing the tough scenes but also didn't leave out the good parts like winning awards or performing. I would recommend this movie to anyone interested in Amy Winehouse.
