Nicolas Cage Nearly Said No To This 1997 Classic: Until John Woo Turned It Into One of His Most Epic Roles Ever!
Image
Nicolas Cage Almost Skipped Face/Off—Until John Woo’s Bold Pitch Made It an Action Classic (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

Nicolas Cage didn’t exactly leap at Face/Off when it first crossed his table. In fact, he politely declined. However, leave it to director John Woo to flip the script. Woo cleverly pitched the film to Cage as a cerebral mind-bender, not the bullet-fueled, identity-swapping spectacle it truly was. And the result was that Cage signed on, and the rest is history. The 1997 cult hit went on to score 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, pulled in box office glory, and landed Cage and John Travolta in what many fans still call their best roles. But that road to casting was nothing sort of a wild ride!

This is How Nicolas Cage Tricked Into Iconic Role in Face/Off

Before it became a late-’90s action masterpiece, Face/Off was pitched with a totally different lineup in mind.

Millie Bobby Brown Is Leading Netflix's New Movie That Entirely Pivots From The Sci-Fi Genre
Image
Millie Bobby Brown is leading a new Netflix movie that pivots her away from the sci-fi genre. The British actress rose from relative obscurity to a superstar by playing Eleven in Netflix's sci-fi series Stranger Things, for which she received two Emmy nominations. Brown's jump to feature film started with the Monsterverse movies, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and its sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong.

But since then, she's starred exclusively in Netflix films, including Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2, withEnola Holmes 3 on the way. She's also starred in Netflix's fantasy film Damsel, which is Netflix's ninth most-watched movie ever, and Netflix's sci-fi film The Electric State, which was a critical disaster that earned a dismal 14% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova aims to have a compelling human element
Godzilla and King Ghidorah in Godzilla II : Roi des monstres (2019)
More than a decade has passed since Legendary Pictures secured the rights to Godzilla and other characters owned and created by the Japanese company Toho so they could launch a cinematic universe they call the MonsterVerse – and they also secured the rights to the King Kong character so he could be part of their MonsterVerse as well. Things got started with Godzilla in 2014, and since then the universe has expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now on the way – and a couple of months ago, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. officially announced that filming is underway, unveiling an ominous teaser, revealing that the film is aiming for a March 26, 2027 theatrical release, and giving it a title – Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

'Godzilla X Kong' Sequel Star Reveals Movie Will Address Biggest Complaint About Human Characters
Image
The upcoming Monsterverse movie Godzilla X Kong: Supernova is shaping up to be the biggest film in the franchise yet. Originally intended to serve as an exciting conclusion to the franchise, Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) ultimately reinvigorated the series, paving the way for the sequel, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. However, one constant complaint that has been levied against the series since 2014, with Gareth Edwards' Godzilla, is a lack of an engaging human narrative to pair with the intense kaiju fights. According to one actor in the upcoming film, that specific complaint will be addressed in Supernova.

In an interview with Ktvu in Oakland, Delroy Lindo, who recently made waves for his performance as Delta Slim in Ryan Coogler's Sinners, talked about his upcoming role in Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. As the actor would tell the news station, it was the production team's dedication to crafting an engaging human character...

Ridley Scott's New Movie Is Dethroned on Streaming by Apple's Sci-Fi Series With 97% on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
There's a new No. 2 on Apple TV+. Echo Valley, the new Ridley Scott-produced thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Julianne Moore, has been kicked to third place by the new sci-fi series Murderbot.

Per FlixPatrol, Murderbot has jumped up three spots on Apple TV+'s Top 10 Overall list to No. 2, knocking Echo Valley down one spot to No. 3. However, Murderbot was unable to dethrone the reigning champion, Stick, the new Owen Wilson sports comedy series about a washed-up pro who turns to a young gifted golfer to turn his life around, which is holding onto that No. 1 spot. Of course, Echo Valley is still No. 1 when it comes to just movies on Apple TV+, while Stick and Murderbot are No. 1 and No. 2 for TV shows.

Murderbot is based on Martha Wells' The Murderbot Diaries, with the first season adapting All Systems Red, the 2017 novella that kicked off the sci-fi series.

Godzilla Getting an Official Lego Set for the First Time Ever
Image
Lego is known for transforming popular IPs into brick-building sets, but there is one colossal gap in the company's catalog that is about to get filled by a giant reptilian Titan. Godzilla will be taking on a new blocky form for the first time in its 70-year history, as Lego has announced a massive set based on Legendary's MonsterVerse designs. The concept for the product came from a fan submission to the toy manufacturer's Ideas Initiative, where creative builders are encouraged to share designs for potential approval to be turned into real sets.

The Lego Ideas submission was made by Matthew Esposito, aka MattE720, who drew inspiration from the kaiju's portrayals in Godzilla: King of Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong and Legendary's most recent MonsterVerse feature Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire with their design. The idea reached the minimum 10,000 votes of support from the public required to make...

‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ Dances Past Tom Hardy’s 40% Rotten Tomatoes Superhero Hit
Image
Almost a month into its theatrical run, a clearer picture is forming of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’s box office performance. It’s been a highly competitive summer movie season so far, and the odds have always been against The Final Reckoning, considering its astronomical production budget. The movie is still staying afloat, but with more competition around the corner, it’s going to struggle to break even. Produced on a reported budget of $400 million, which makes it one of the most expensive films in history, The Final Reckoningneeds to gross at least $800 million in order to be in the clear.

With $166 million domestically and $340 million from overseas markets, The Final Reckoning has grossed around $506 million worldwide so far. It still hasn’t overtaken Mission: Impossible 2, which was released a quarter-century ago. And, in terms of attendance, it continues to trail the franchise’s first film, which debuted nearly three decades ago.

10 Best Alexander Skarsgård Movies And TV Shows, Ranked
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

2025 is quietly shaping up to be the Year of the Skarsgård. Coming off the science fiction blockbuster hit "Dune: Part Two" from last year, patriarch Stellan Skarsgård has once again helped elevate genre content with a stunning dramatic turn in the "Star Wars" prequel series "Andor" on Disney+. Meanwhile, Bill Skarsgård has returned to the world of Stephen King and Pennywise the Clown, reprising the role that made him a household name in the HBO series "It: Welcome to Derry." But perhaps most significant of all is the latest endeavor of Alexander Skarsgård, an arguably underrated member of the acting dynasty currently leading "Murderbot," one of the buzziest shows of Apple TV+ triumphant 2025 run.

It's possible Alexander doesn't get as much attention because his most high-profile swing at a blockbuster turned out to be a major box office bomb. There...

The Godzilla X Kong: Supernova Villain May Have Been Spoiled By One Of The Movie's Stars
Image
It looks like the big bad of the sequel to "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has been revealed, even if it wasn't supposed to be. Warner Bros. and Legendary announced back in May that production had begun on "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova," which will be the sixth entry in the MonsterVerse overall following "Godzilla," "Kong: Skull Island," "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," "Godzilla vs. Kong," and the aforementioned "The New Empire." Now, one of the movie's human cast members has somewhat quietly -- and not so subtly -- hinted at a major monster from the past getting in on the action.

Those who wish to go into "Supernova" knowing as little as possible might wish to turn back now since what comes next could be venturing into spoiler territory. With that said: Matthew Modine, of "Stranger Things" fame, is playing one of the humans who will be mixing it...

Bad News Godzilla Fans, the Most Divisive ‘Godzilla x Kong’ Team Up Is Leaving Netflix Soon
Image
If you were planning a MonsterVerse marathon before Godzilla x Kong: Supernova stomps into cinemas in 2027, you’d better act fast. Netflix has announced that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the franchise’s highest-grossing installment to date, is leaving the platform next month.

The 2024 titan showdown, which brought Godzilla and Kong together again for an even bigger battle, will exit Netflix on June 14, 2025. While the news may feel like a body slam to fans still dissecting the film’s kaiju lore, there’s at least one upside: The New Empire will remain available to stream on HBO Max, alongside Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong.

The removal is particularly surprising given the MonsterVerse’s momentum. With Godzilla x Kong: Supernova currently in production, you’d think Warner Bros. Discovery would want its biggest hit — literally and financially — as accessible as possible. After all, The New Empire roared to $571 million worldwide,...

Bill Maher Compares Musk vs. Trump Rift to ‘It Ends With Us’ Legal Battle: “Winner Faces Blake Lively”

Bill Maher poked fun at President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s virtual back-and-forth during the latest episode of Real Time with a reference to the sprawling legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

At the top of Friday’s episode of the HBO series, the comedian kicked things off by thanking his audience for “putting on a brave face because I know you’re all probably upset” because of “what happened with Elon and Donald Trump” this past week.

Maher later said that he wasn’t going to “pretend I can really think about anything other than the Trump, Elon” rift, comparing their conflict to the Godzilla vs. Kong movie franchise. “When you think about it, the richest man in the world and the most powerful man in the world, it’s like Godzilla versus King Kong, if Godzilla was on ketamine and King Kong had a comb over,...

James Gunn Compares Superman's 'Human Story' To Oscar-Winning Godzilla Film
Image
Superman is arguably one of the most anticipated movies of 2025. According to director James Gunn, the story will resemble one of the King of the Monsters' most successful films in years.

Speaking to Japanese outlet Cinema Today, Gunn talked about finding an intimate side to Superman's story amid all the fantastical elements, citing 2023's Godzilla Minus One as a great example. "My goal is to make a film like Godzilla Minus One, which depicted Godzilla but also had great human drama," he said in a translation via GamesRadar+. He also noted that, despite Superman's alien nature, the film, "at its core is a human story. The relationship between Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and (villain) Lex Luthor is the core of the work."

Released in celebration of the Japanese movie icon's 70th anniversary, Godzilla Minus One received universal acclaim overseas, eventually smashing the American box office record for highest-grossing non-English movie.

John Travolta’s Reaction After an Intense Nicolas Cage Choked Him on the Set of Face/Off
Image
Face/Off, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, is among the coolest action movies of the 90s. The unconventional plot, John Woo’s direction, and performances have made the 1997 movie a cult classic. Though the makers were initially skeptical of the bizarre plot of the movie, Face/Off became a blockbuster.

Recently, a BTS footage from Face/Off went viral that showed the filming of a fight scene between Travolta and Cage. In the clip, we can see Travolta being choked by Nicolas Cage, who seems to be too much into his character.

John Travolta could not believe Nicolas Cage would be so intense during Face/Off filming A still from Face/Off | Credits: Paramount Pictures

The story of Face/Off was undoubtedly too crazy on pen and paper. A plot featuring a dedicated FBI agent, Sean Archer (John Travolta), swapping faces with an international terrorist, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), sounds quite difficult to pay off on-screen.

Lilo & Stitch, Final Destination Bloodlines, And Moana 2 All Have Something In Common
Image
Earlier in the year, I was nervous. I was nervous about the continued state of the theatrical experience. The first chunk of 2024 got off to an exceptionally rough start at the box office, and I was sounding some alarms. I wanted nothing more than to be made to look like a fool as the year rolled on, like an alarmist with nothing to truly be worried about. Fortunately, that has largely come to pass, as movies like "A Minecraft Movie," "Sinners," and even the re-release of "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" have given the industry reason to be optimistic.

More than anything though, recent weeks have offered up a couple of bigger-than-expected debuts from the likes of Warner Bros.' "Final Destination Bloodlines" and Disney's live-action "Lilo & Stitch" remake. Both movies from beloved franchises, both of which blew past pre-release estimates. "Bloodlines" opened to $51 million, becoming the biggest horror release of the year.

What ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Gets Wrong About the Monsterverse
Image
Apple TV+ has quietly sneaked up and become one of the most consistent streaming platforms out there. Whether it’s intense drama like Severance, sports comedy like Ted Lasso, or high-octane thrillers like Slow Horses, the Emmy wins just keep piling up. So, when Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was announced as their next big thing—a series that dives into the world of Godzilla and Kong—it felt like a huge win.

The series takes place after the events of Godzilla (2014) and is linked to other Monsterverse movies, including Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong. Taking a different approach than its movie counterparts, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters delves into the secret organization Monarch and its handling of Titans like Godzilla and other kaiju across multiple generations and timelines.

But as the episodes rolled out, one big question began to emerge among fans and critics:...

What Is Axis Mundi and Why ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ Characters Were Able to Enter Hollow Earth Without Any Consequences
Image
The Apple TV+ show, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, is changing everything we thought we knew about the Monsterverse. For years, it seemed like humanity had only discovered the Hollow Earth in Godzilla vs. Kong. However, we now know that Monarch was secretly exploring it as far back as the 1960s, during a mission called Operation Hourglass.

This changes the timeline completely, and with the series introducing Axis Mundi, an unnatural gateway into the Hollow Earth, it opens the door to even bigger mysteries. In the series, a few characters were able to enter this dangerous world without any disruption, which did not make sense, as characters like Cate saw a huge time jump during her short visit to Hollow Earth. So, what is the Axis Mundi, and how does it differ from everything we know so far?

What is Axis Mundi? A still from the series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters...

Murderbot Interview With Lead Star Alexander Skarsgård And Creators Chris Weitz & Paul Weitz (Exclusive)
Image
Based on Martha Wells' bestselling Hugo and Nebula Award-winning book series, Murderbot is a sci-fi comedic thriller about a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients.

Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård) must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.

Last month, we got to speak with Skarsgård and creators/writers/directors/producers Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz about working on the series. We started by asking the show's lead about finding the humanity in a character called "Murderbot."

"We wanted a contrast and a juxtaposition between the name of the character and the way we designed the look of the character. We wanted a tough name like Murderbot, who looks like he could definitely beat you up, but it's...

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova: Everything We Know So Far About The Kaiju Sequel
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The MonsterVerse has become one of the most reliable, slow and steady cinematic universes going in Hollywood. Tracing its roots back to Gareth Edwards' gritty, grounded, divisive hit "Godzilla" in 2014, the franchise has since expanded to five increasingly wild movies, a TV show in the form of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," comics books, and even video games. Now, Warner Bros. and Legendary are reuniting once again for another kaiju-filled cinematic romp coming our way in 2027.

While virtually nothing has been revealed yet in terms of plot details, the studio has confirmed that "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova" has an official release date. Given that 2024's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" became the biggest movie in MonsterVerse history, that's not remotely surprising. So, what is "Supernova" going to bring to the table? Does the term relating to the implosion of a...

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova logo arrives alongside an ominous teaser announcing the film’s production start
A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now on the way – and while we already knew two weeks ago that production had started on the film, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have officially announced that filming is underway today, unveiling an ominous teaser, revealing that the film is aiming for a March 26, 2027 theatrical release,...

'Godzilla x Kong' Sequel Goes 'Supernova' With Explosive New Title
Image
The MonsterVerse just got a whole lot hotter. Legendary Pictures has officially revealed the title for its next kaiju showdown, and it’s going nuclear — the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is now titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. While plot details are still sealed tighter than Hollow Earth, the title itself is already sparking theories. Supernova? Are we going cosmic this time? Is an intergalactic Titan on the way? And more importantly: will Godzilla and Kong need space suits? If they don't, we're out.

Production is already underway in Queensland, Australia, marking the fourth MonsterVerse entry to shoot in the region after Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The New Empire. Legendary is once again rolling cameras at Village Roadshow Studios, where the film is expected to pump over Aud$93 million into the local economy and support more than 400 cast and crew members. ‘Thunderbolts*’ Co-Writer Eric Pearson Talks ‘The New Avengers’ Reveal, Pre-Sentry Villain and Original Taskmaster Arc
Image
[This story contains spoilers for Thunderbolts*.]

Thunderbolts* co-writer Eric Pearson has been one of Marvel Studios’ most reliable collaborators the last 15 years.

In 2010, the New York City native enrolled in Marvel Studios’ Writers Program, before cutting his teeth on the majority of the Marvel One-Shots series, including Agent Carter (2013), which served as the catalyst for the 2015-16 ABC television series that housed three Pearson-penned episodes. He then performed uncredited writing on Ant-Man (2017) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), paving the way for Thor: Ragnarok (2017), his first co-writing credit on an MCU feature film. He proceeded to do some more script-doctoring on Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019) until Black Widow (2021) earned him sole writing credit. In between his Marvel work, Pearson also co-wrote Godzilla vs. Kong and Transformers One.

Coming out of Black Widow, Pearson laid the groundwork for Thunderbolts*, initiating the pitch that teamed up Widow’s Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour...

Titan Comics is publishing Return to Skull Island, a comic continuation of the Netflix series Skull Island.
