The writing and directing is excellent. While it takes you into the late 89's you dont have to have lived during that time to enjoy this movie. For me this was a character based screenplay that you get to travel along with the main character and feel how he makes this transition from one type of guy to another. I don't want to give anything away. I enjoyed how the music is such an important part of the movie like a character itself. I wish the movie had been a bit longer.I think they shuld have explored soime of the other characters a bit more. But there again is why i think this was more a one character based movie and there's nothing wrong with that.
The driving and drag racing were great to watch.THe love story was a surprise. the gangsters were an excellent addition that i wish we could have seen more of.Spencer Boldman did an excellent job of pullig off this character, i was highly impressed with his work.
I came for Emily Ratajkowski. I stayed for Emily Ratajkowski. Her character is the only one I cared about. I was familiar with Emily's time in music videos and modeling. I came in with low hope of her acting chops. I am so impressed that I will now be searching out more of her movies. She is a double threat. The movie was a bit slow for me. It climbed too much into the Italian stereotypes.
I did however like the retro feel of the 80's it was like a Time Machine. What with the cars and such. Needed more 80's products. If you love New York and grew up in the 80's, this movie is for you. Emily is the cherry on top.

The feeling of this film is really cool. It feels like cultural slice of life in New York. It worked for me more as dramedy than a romance, because I never really felt incredibly invested in the characters. They weren't entirely likeable/sympathetic, but they were still interesting.

Most people can't relate to this movie, this movie is for the people who grew up in NYC's five boroughs and Long Island. This is a life style that many won't understand, but for those of us who do it's great. Finally we have a movie that glorifies Freestyle music and it has a decent love story to it. It's nothing groundbreaking or Oscar worthy and it is not trying to be. It's just a great trip down memory lane for some people.
