This film takes you on a journey with 5 very different teens, a jock, a rocker, a nerd, a cheerleader, and an outspoken teen named Normandy who are forced my their parents to connect the old fashion way...without electronics for 30 days and attend a mandatory weekly get together. There are plenty of antics and laughs to be had as you see the teens stumble through the adjustment. Will boredom rain or will the teenagers discover a hidden truth about life and the value in our human connection and shared experience? Normandy is My Name is a hilarious and heartwarming film with an essence of Juno mixed with a Napoleon Dynamite flare.
Lots of good reviews here. However couldnt really recommend. The adult actors let it down, script and direction were stilted or unrealistic. The background music often didnt really work. However it was a worthwhile attempt -and did pretty well for the low budget.
This film has a Nickelodeon or After School Special vibe and concerns four teens undergoing digital withdrawal when their parents remove social media from their lives. They learn the value of meaningful relationships through actual interaction and develop strong friendships. It's competently shot and edited possessing a light tone.
A sweet-natured film with an interesting premise! Technology has certainly been a detriment to human interaction in many instances, and the idea of making people interact with a 30-day tech time-out is actually a great idea for everyone. But getting teens to give up their tech? That's a genuine source of conflict between kids and parents in real life. In this movie, five kids are mostly respectful of their parents forcing this idea on them, and also of forcing those kids to hang together for a month. The very different teens don't like each other much at first, but grow to enjoy each other over their month together. This film offers more than a few fun moments too. One of my biggest pet peeves of entertainment that features teens is that adults and parents are mostly shown as worthy of nothing but ridicule. Not the case with this movie, as the adults are decent and smart, and are portrayed as such. The relationship between the lead character Normandy and her Grandmother (and bestie) is especially sweet natured. Overall, a nice showcase for the film makers and cast!
Normandy Is My Name is such a fun film! My wife and I enjoyed it a lot (and that is saying a lot for my wife)! We like supporting indie films but you often times can find a dud. But not this time! We thoroughly enjoyed this little gem from beginning to end. We liked the story, the acting and directing. The film moved along at a good pace. Bravo to all who helped to make this film. Two thumbs up from my wife and myself!!
