Exclusive: Christina Ochoa is developing the sci-fi series Empty Earth based on the Rick McManus book series of the same name with Freedom Studios.

In Empty Earth, climate change has forced humanity to a dystopian bargain: seek safety, or risk everything to find the answers. The book trilogy is post-apocalyptic adventure series, with an empowered female protagonist, wrapped in an epic of love, family, and survival with science at the forefront.

The Africa Channel Studios has launched development on an untitled drama series exploring the true story of legendary African rock band Wells Fargo. David Straiton and Nora Lonergan (MacGyver) will produce, with writer and musician Daisy Martey penning the pilot. Narendra Reddy and Brendan Gabriel are set to executive produce for The Africa Channel Studios.

Wells Fargo is a rock group from mid-’70s Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) that was prominent in the “Zimrock” scene that popularized hippie-inspired counterculture in Africa. The series will follow drummer Ebba Chitambo and his bandmates’ rise to national fame as they find themselves on the pointy end of a revolution—impossible underdogs in the fight to liberate a segregated and white-controlled Rhodesia.

Bellamy Young is set to shake things up on Promised Land, ABC’s upcoming Latino family drama led by John Ortiz (Luck), Cecilia Suárez (The House of Flowers) and Christina Ochoa (Blood Drive).

Ordered to series in August and written/executive-produced by Matt Lopez (Gone), Promised Land is described as an “epic, generation-spanning drama” about two Latino families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley.

Animal Kingdom star Christina Ochoa will team with Emmy-winning production designer David Korins and his Inner Child production banner for Around The World In 80 Dates.

Inner Child has acquired the romance experiment show to co-develop and executive produce alongside Ochoa. Around The World in 80 Dates is a cross-cultural exploration to international romance, courtship rituals and love.

Ochoa appears in TNT’s Animal Kingdom as Renn Randall. She has landed a spot in ABC’s Matt Lopez drama Promised Land. Her additional credits are ABC’s A Million Little Things, CW’s Valor and NBC’s Blood Drive. She is repped by Buchwald.

The show is described as an epic, generation-spanning drama about two Latinx families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley.

Ochoa will star as Veronica Sandoval, the eldest daughter of the Sandoval family, a wealthy vineyard-owning family in the Sonoma Valley. Veronica is the highly capable heir to the Heritage Wines empire and her father Joe’s trusted Number Two. But her drive and ambition have left her with some glaring personal blindspots, and Veronica’s seemingly perfect life soon starts to unravel.

Season 1 of the Amazon series will be based on the first book, 1997’s The Killing Floor. Nick Santora (Scorpion) is attached to write and serve as showrunner; Child is also an EP.

Exclusive: Animal Kingdom actress Christina Ochoa will star in Boon, the upcoming western sequel pic from Yellowstone‘s Neal McDonough.

Boon is a spiritual sequel to the movie Red Stone that takes place in the distant future and picks up with henchman Nick Boon (McDonough) trying to get on with his life. At the same time we learn, our Preacher, the widowed Catherine, played by Christiane Seidel, is busy trying to protect herself and her son from a local criminal organization that is using her land for some unusual activities. When Boon and Catherine’s lives cross paths they find themselves leaning on each other to protect everything they stand for.

Derek Presley, who directed the first installment, Red Stone, returns to helm Boon and is co-writing. Red Stone producer Jason Starne also returns for the sequel.

In addition to Ochoa, the film features Jake Melrose, James Madio, and John Patrick Jordan.

Exclusive: Netflix has put in development an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard, I have learned.

I hear the project, from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media, is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The pact gives Netflix the exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated.

The move would fit into Netflix’s strategy of acquiring globally recognizable IP to build an universe of films and TV series, including Roald Dahl’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia books and comics publisher Millarworld.

A search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the Conan adaptation and director to helm the project. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media.

New York Comic Con‘s virtual lineup is starting to take shape, and the highlights include a Smallville reunion, a couple of doctors, and a chance to ask all your burning Lost questions.

Much like this summer’s Comic-Con @ Home, Nycc — taking place Thursday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Oct. 11 — will be streamed via the event’s YouTube channel. Alan Ritchson has lined up his next TV role, and it's a big one.

He's landed the title role on Amazon's Jack Reacher.

Ritchson is currently starring on DC Universe drama series Titans in the role of Hank Hall, aka Hawk.

He recurred on Titans Season 1, but was promoted to series regular for Titans Season 2, and is expected to appear on the forthcoming Titans Season 3.

There's no word yet on whether his role will be scaled back on the superhero drama's third season due to his new role.

Ritchson is also well-known for his one season run on Blood Drive, as well as playing superhero Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman on The CW's Smallville.

Jack Reacher nabbed a series order at the streamer earlier this year at Amazon's turn at the Television Critics Association.

Based on Lee Child's novels, the freshman season will follow The Killing Floor, the first Jack Reacher novel.

Alan Ritchson, who is 6-foot-3 by some accounts (and may be even taller!), has landed the highly coveted, highly scrutinized title role in Amazon’s Jack Reacher series.

Ritchson’s previous TV credits include DC Universe’s Titans (where he has played the superhero known as Hawk), Syfy’s one-and-done-but-glorious Blood Drive, and Smallville (as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman). Ritchson will continue on Titans while filming Jack Reacher, our sister site Deadline reports.

Amazon Studios, Skydance TV and Paramount TV Studios have found their Jack Reacher. Alan Ritchson (Titans) has been tapped for the title role in Jack Reacher, the streamer’s drama series based on the character from Lee Child’s international bestselling series of books.

The first season of the series, written, exec produced and showrun by Nick Santora, is based on the first Jack Reacher novel, The Killing Floor, which is set in Georgia.

As conceived by Child, the imposing, 6’5″-tall, 210– to 250-pound character of Jack Reacher is a U.S. Army veteran investigating suspicious activities that frequently put him in danger. The role was played by Tom Cruise in the 2012 Jack Reacher feature and the 2016 sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

Child’s Jack Reacher is a billion-dollar brand published in 49 languages and 101 territories, with more than 100 million books sold.

After last week’s solo mission into Jack’s past, “Together Forever” gets the larger Van Helsing narrative arc back on track and introduces an element that up to now has remained in the shadows. The government is watching, and while it’s not yet evident how much it knows about Blak Tek and its experiments, the revelation that it’s out there and paying attention adds another intriguing layer to the chaos taking place in the Western United States. And even though Vanessa’s still trapped in an alternate world with the Dark One, her daughters more than make up for her absence.
