When He Wasn't Writing THE DIRTY DOZEN

Al St. John and Eileen Cook want to get married. He wants to meet her family first. She gets skittish. When Al insists, he finds out why. They're circus people, and they can't stop acting like they're in the Big Top.

But true love conquers all, and so they get to the wedding ceremony, where all their associates from the circus come in, the sword swallower eats the wedding ring, and pandemonium ensues.

You don't expect to see the name of Nunnally Johnson as writer on a short comedy, but given Eddie Cline's direction, it's as bizarre and funny as anything he directed Buster Keaton in. I particularly enjoyed the way they spoke of the lions.
