    At the Beginning

No one claims that no one ever stuck skates on a piece of wood before 1966, certainly not narrator Bruce Brown. He does claim for surfboard designer Hobie Alter the design that allows many of the maneuvers that form the basis of the modern skateboarder's repertoire. Some of the things Brown calls amazing are commonplace nowadays, but someone had to do them first.

You can see the connection between surfboarding and skateboarding, and that's one of the points that Brown makes. He brings to this film the same techniques he uses in his surfing film, as well as the same people .... although the skateboarders have younger afficiandoes than the surfboarders.

    nice

A smart advertising . For skateboards, for young America, about a group of boys and their passion. Poetic, seductive, nice. One of old short films remembering games and hope and joy and simplicity of life. Nothing special . Except a sort of nostalgia about a lost age. And the admiration for the well crafted film and its makers.
