Thought this LOOKS like a soap opera that your grandma would watch and you would have to join during one of those day you skipped and she was the only one that could pick you up from school with that fake tummy ache ....its actually not ....
sure i know the sets look like a soap opera .... and yes the acting is kind of like a soap opera .... BUT no one works at a hospital.....crap no wait never mind ... morgues count as surgery .......YUP this is a soap opera that grandmas watch dang it .... night feeder of our lives ....
well for a filmed on a sound stage with the same equipment of a soap opera etc .... it comes across ehhhh kind of low end feeling to me ... the creature FX are great (in general the FX are solid) LOVED those and REALLY should have had WAY more of that going on than the story they were going with just ...stuff going on lol.... i mean "writing " okay ...lol... but should have had the ending like half way through then REALLY went up to level 11 on action and crazy crap in there .... BUT nope ...
kudos to them for making this happen and honestly if i had access to the sound stages and all that i would probably throw something together as well .... so A for effort .....
but over all imma have to give it a d- at best
2/10
oh and 3 minutes and 30 seconds in that lady is LITERALLY THE DEFFINITION OF WHY DRUGS ARE BAD ....
This is a shining example of the fact, that it takes more to make a movie than to just point a camera at something and press 'record'.
The actual visuals are terrible, the editing is horrible and don't even get me started on the soundtrack - that's beyond horrible. The acting is as bad as the rest, so there is nothing to come for there either. On top of that it is just boring beyond belief.
One (very very very) small saving grace, is the monster, which is shown in the last 5 minutes or so (any effect before that is not worth your time either). The monster is not good, but better than expected from this excuse for a movie. Those 5 minutes are all you "need" to see.
In short: Even if you like cheap and terrible 80's low-budget horror, there are LOTS of better choices than this.
... you have been warned.
The plot revolved around a series of murders where the victims have one of their eyes removed and most of their brain sucked out through the hole left behind. Somehow, a street drug and a New Wave band (both named DZS, pronounced disease) are involved in the killings.
The plot is almost secondary to the atmosphere though. Filmed in actual clubs and with actual fans, this is a snapshot of a scene that existed and will never exist again in the late 80s. An actual band "The Nuns" plays the roll of DZS and though most of the actors are clearly amateurs, even the strangest performances ring true thanks to the odd nature of the scene itself.
Lastly, the gore and creature effects were overseen by an effects designer who had previously worked on David Cronenberg's "The Fly". One of his teachers was a producer on the film, so he agreed to help out.
If you like 1980s shot on video horror, this is one of the best I have seen. The fact that it was previously only available on VHS in Poland for the last 27 years is a travesty. Thank you Bleeding Skull Video for making this amazing film finally available for everyone to experience.
It was a very good premise, I think it just lacked sufficient funding to make it... viewable. Nice try though.
