I love this show almost as much as I love Cupcake Wars. (I sure wish Food Network would bring it back!) Waylynn and Richard are not enjoyable judges to watch or listen to. I'm sure Waylynn is a nice person and doesn't intend to come off the way she does but it is painful to watch her judge. She is often so discouraging and critical. I am sitting here watching a rerun of an episode. Waylynn just told a contestant that their cake "is just as unappealing and unappetizing on the inside and it is on the outside." Wow - It isn't fun to watch someone get crushed. Richard Ruskell comes off as a complete jerk. It's hard to enjoy the show when I spend a major portion of it feeling sorry for the contestants. The host is annoying. He tries to hard to be goofy and quirky but it is too forced and the judges don't "play along". It's so awkward. If he would just be cheerful it would be a thousand times better. -- Cake Wars should take its cues from Sugar Rush. Candace Nelson is a perfect judge. So kind and encouraging even when she has to give negative comments. The host is fun but not overly so. He's friendly and has a good rapport with the judges.
FOOD NETWORK - Please listen to the reviews! We've been telling you for years. Get kinder judges and tell Justin to tone it down or get a someone else.

The two regular judges are way too judgemental for the time constraints. I believe high standards and perfection are certainly the goal. However the two regular judges are way beyond too critical. The walk around in the 2nd round is unnecessary.
The title says it all. I can't stand it when they tear apart beautifully made cakes because "there's too much detail" or "they don't understand the story" then award simple and boring cakes the title of winner. Can you imagine if people actually used that to critique other types of art? "Sorry, Pieter Brugal, your painting is beautiful and all, but Icarus is kind of hard for me to spot and it feels like there's a lot of focus on the other characters in the painting and I personally just don't get it."
Also, I'm just saying, if a judge came up to me and they were like, "Oh, that cake might not work because there's a chance it could collapse. I wonder what you're gonna do because you've already spent half this time making it and now you've only got two hours so you probably don't have time to make another one. Anyways good luck." I do believe I would show them my cake from a different perspective via slamming their head into it.

The idea for the show is awesome, I love the baking and cake competition shows. However, these judges are jerks. They only have negetive things to say, I'm always shocked when they have a positive comment. The walk around making people feel bad about their work in the middle of everything, and then tear them down at the end. It's awful, not supportive, soul crushing judging.
As a cake maker I'd like to defend those who have participated in the war. The time given to complete the challenge is not enough and for the judges to expect a squeaky clean pristine piece is ridiculous to say the least! I'd love to see Food Network put the judges at "war" under the same restrictions given and have the real cake makers critique their work! I bet they'd FAIL to produce the product they expect from participants not to mention people would see their lack of performance and skill. We see Buddy and Duff showcase their talents all the time. When will we see the talents that the judges have? To me its not enough to say they are skilled. SHOW US!! Anyone can own a bakery and hire to get the work done. I've watched this show since the beginning and would love to see the tasks allowed more time to show the artists they really are.

- TriviaIf you look closely, the winning cake looks different in the competition than at the party it was for. This is because they had to make a new cake for the party since the cake expires before the party would start.
