I was in the Roanoke city police academy when this particular incident happened, but I remember hearing about it. Very tragic. I really liked the movie. Bryan was a great guy from what everyone told me. Terrible this happened to him. Reading some of the other reviews in the review section was quite disheartening, and I think it has more to do with these people either having a very weak faith,or a disdain for Christianity in general. I never knew he went into ministry and became a reverend. At the department where I worked,I do remember that he was a very very well liked individual who was loved by many!
I could never get emotionally involved with the story. The main character's acting was wooden and unemotional. There were a few contrived laughs that I found to be not so funny.
The nuts and bolts to make a good movie are there, it may show similarities to other Christian movies...and in other ways, quite different. The 'movie' music is stupendous as are some of the drone shots. The backdrop of Roanoke mostly provides impressive scenery.
Christian themes but not on the corny or sappy side and done in a limited manner IMO.
But filming Bryan Lawrence's up-and-down recovery, this was something else and the best part. I've never seen anything like this in all the hospital or illness type movies there are. This facet of the movie is masterful. And the lead actor excelled in this role.

I love baseball. Just because a movie has baseball in it, doesn't make it good. Same with Christian movies. Just because Jesus is in it somewhere, doesn't make it good.
The acting was horrible, production was sadly, poor and the directing was non-existent.

Like all Christian driven films, this film is sappy and emotional. This is not a negative, my opinion.
One must look beyond the strong religious undercurrent and recognize the positive message...which is valid for any person of faith.
Since the story is based on actual events, it is more powerful. This is worth watching if you are a person of faith or are looking for an uplifting movie...but be prepared for a good deal of sappy emotionalism.
Sometimes sappy emotionalism should be embraced ... I cannot be the only fan of Hallmark and Lifetime movies.
If you are a fan of films from Hallmark and Lifetime, I think you will enjoy this.
