The Tempter

The acting and directing are broken well within the first ten minutes of this movie. an absolutely painful dialogue between the houseguest and the realtor reveals the lack of effort put into the project, and the movie never hits stride so much as stumbles throughout. a weak plot leads to an open ending, and one can only hope this cycle does not begin anew. not recommended at all.

I was not expecting much from a movie created by a bunch of friends. I was wrong.

Deal with the Devil is of course a retelling of Faust, which could get tired really quickly, but somehow it doesn't. The characters are far more complex than they deserve to be in a campy, fun horror movie destined to be a cult classic. Eric Wolfgang Nelson might just be having the most fun of anyone in this movie, playing Baal with a gleeful, almost giddy demeanor that slips out at the best times.

Benjamin Thomas, as Director-With-A-Cameo playing Murphy, evokes Jayne Cobb from Firefly with his happy sniper/bounty hunter plinking .22s off his back porch. The entire movie is far more witty than I realized on the first watch. We love a good laugh, but subtle wit is even more fun.

The camera angles and score were completely unexpected and did a great job supporting the actors. This movie will pop into your head every so often and make you wonder how you'd fare against dark forces. Put this one on your annual Halloween viewing schedule!

This movie kept my interest to the very end. If you are religious at all, you can't help but be curious. The subject of dealing with the devil is just terrifying. I like the scene changes and camera angles. Camera from behind the vent - scary and the haunted sounds. The character, Paul, I thought was a natural. Good acting. Don's character was interesting. I liked how his violin skills got better but creepy. Murphy was a great character. Setting was good in the older home in the city.

This is gem of a movie ----the characters are very believable ..Eric Wolfgang Nelson is scary -good as Ba'al satans right hand man ----his casual manner and dreadful demands were spot on --at one point in the film I had to look thru my hand because I didn't want to experience what I was seeing -that's powerful .....Baals makeup and costume was perfect- mesmerizing as this horror flick might be with a character like Ba'al ...being a musician myself I was completely drawn into Don and his new found talent on the violin ----his syren song is very effective ...watching the gradual madness overtake the characters was gut-wrenching and the timeline jumps are perfection .....the poor writer who is goofy and not able to talk to women is very engaging and I felt like I would have done very much the same thing -this is a fantastic indie film that deserves praise for what they accomplished ..I still brood and wonder if in reality this plays out a thousand times a day on our world unseen but not for those caught up in such a tragic horror as their time is short and there is no escape expect by.......... truly hoping this film brings some well-deserved notoriety to all involved in the film........Bravo !!

Overall, not a bad movie, if you don't mind indies. Apart from being as scary as a peanut and moving at a snail's pace, saved only by the occasional rocker dude to look at, this is strictly for that hour or so you need to kill while waiting for an appointment or preparing for bed.

All I can say is, if this lead character got his art and music 'talent' from the Devil, I'd say he got done in badly and should give back the so-called gifts bestowed. If this is the level of talent you give up your soul for, I'd suggest you stick to your own. Maybe this is the same devil today's "artists" sold their soul to, because the film's credibility falls greatly with this tiny detail - the level of genius the lead character is supposed to have gotten from his deal.

Perhaps the producers should have invested in actual talented musicians and painters to sell the premise of the story. It just reeks of inauthentic dribble among acting that is not bad at all.
