With many decades having passed since the 1983 release of John Carpenter's Christine, it's safe to say that the movie's cast has done a lot since then. Carpenter's horror film was written by Bill Phillips, based on Stephen King's horror novel of the same name. It follows a teenage nerd named Arnie Cunningham, who becomes obsessed with his new car, the titular Christine. Like the author's other works, the story takes a dark turn, with Christine revealed to be one of Stephen King's many killer cars prevalent in his novels and short stories.

Given its focus on teenage characters, the film adaptation starred a number of young actors who were just starting out in their careers, including Alexandra Paul, John Stockwell, and Kelly Preston. WWE Superstar Seth Rollins has reportedly finished his work on Captain America: Brave New World, and his role is also said to have been revealed. Previously, Rollins was spotted in character on the set, confirming his role in the fourth Captain America movie. Simmons/Hamilton Productions aims to produce 25 theatrical features over initial five-year period.

Kiss co-founder Gene Simmons and Arclight Films chairman Gary Hamilton have launched Simmons/Hamilton Productions (working title) to develop, finance and produce features kicking off with Renny Harlin’s Deep Water.

Arclight has launched worldwide sales in Cannes on the survival thriller about international passengers whose plane is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters.

Production is scheduled to begin later this year with Simmons, Hamilton, Arclight Films’ Ying Ye and Rob Van Norden (Martin Campbell’s The Protégé) serving as producers.

Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and Gary Hamilton, chairman of Arclight Films, have launched Simmons/Hamilton Prods. to develop, finance and produce feature films.

The standalone banner will produce 25 movies over an initial five-year period, with a focus on action, thriller and genre titles with global franchise potential.

The company is backed by a multi-billion dollar fund manager that is providing slate financing through a revolving finance facility. Arclight Films’ CFO Brian Beckmann was responsible for closing the slate funding deal. All films created under the new company — which was first discussed five years ago, and recently firmed up — will be produced by Simmons and Hamilton, both of whom are in Cannes for the festival. The focus is to build a feature film production company, targeting original theatrical product that can be developed into franchise properties.

Movie fans focused on VOD value this week — an easy choice, with no new major releases. (That will change in a few days with the Warner Bros. original family title “Scoob!” at $19.99.) Sony’s “Bloodshot” opened the last weekend theaters operated, became a $19.99 premium VOD offering a few weeks later, and last Tuesday it dropped to $5.99. It now stands in the top three for all of our reported charts, including #1 at Amazon Prime, and #2 at FandangoNow which ranks by amount paid, not transactions.

“I Still Believe” dropped its prices to $5.99 this week, and their chart placements improved. This flags a potential issue: How many people will get used to holding off for a few weeks, in exchange for seeing the price drop by 60 percent or more? Many of these viewers were content to wait three months after initial theatrical play, so delaying rental for a month might not be a tough choice.

I always enjoyed watching a good Wesley Snipes movie and he's got a new action film coming out called Armed Response. We have a new trailer for you to watch for this movie today and it actually doesn't look too bad. It actually has kind of a 90s action movie vibe to it that I kinda dig. 

The story centers on a small team of armed soldiers who infiltrate a facility that is controlled by an advanced artificial intelligence. Obviously, the shit hits the fan once they enter the building and get locked in. Saban Films has acquired North American rights from WWE Studios to John Stockwell’s Armed Response starring Wesley Snipes, Anne Heche, WWE superstar Seth Rollins and Kiss band member Gene Simmons.

The sci-fi thriller, written by Matt Savelloni, follows a team of operatives attempting to discover the fate of a previous unit when they become trapped inside a military compound. Voltage Pictures handles international sales.

The film stars and Dave Annable and is currently in post-production. WWE Studios president Michael Luisi produced with Simmons via their Erebus Pictures banner.

Bill Bromiley, Ness Saban and Jonathan Saba negotiated the deal on behalf of Saban Films.

The UK outfit has revealed five acquisitions made in Cannes.

UK distributor Signature Entertainment has revealed five all rights acquisitions secured at the Cannes Film Festival.

It has struck two deals with Voltage Pictures, including for Lennart Ruff’s sci-fi epic The Titan, which is set to star Sam Worthington (Avatar), Taylor Schilling (Orange Is The New Black), Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins), Agyness Deyn (Hail, Caesar!) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game Of Thrones).

The film follows a military experiment designed to genetically evolve a man to be sent into space that goes horribly wrong, with the side effects threatening humanity itself. It is set for a release in 2017.

The company has also picked up John Stockwell’s thriller Temple from Voltage, which sees Wesley Snipes (Blade) leading a team of trained military operatives who find themselves trapped in an isolated compound where they begin to experience horrific phenomena.

John Stockwell ("Blue Crush," "Turistas") helms the film from a script by Matt Savelloni. The story follows a team of trained operatives who find themselves trapped inside an isolated military compound after its A.I. is suddenly shut down. What a cast! What a concept! And we haven't even gotten to the producers yet. While Temple might just turn out to be a mediocre horror thriller, it has all the potential to be one of the best horror movies released in coming years. The partnership kicks off with Temple, which WWE Studios acquired and developed with screenwriter Matt Savelloni.

A director will be announced shortly on the story of a crew that infiltrates an isolated military compound inhabited by strange phenomena.

Scooby-Doo and friends are taking a trip to Detroit Rock City this summer as creators of the animated series have enlisted Kiss for a new feature.

Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery is an upcoming summer full-length film that sees the Kiss gang get animated and call up Scooby-Doo, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Fred of Mystery Inc. to solve the mystery of the Crimson Witch. The witch is disrupting a Halloween concert at the amusement Kiss World and is setting out to destroy the planet by summoning the Destroyer.

As the world prepares to completely lose its mind with the release of the new Star Wars film, it is obviously time to try to stir the pot as much as possible. That in mind, the previous films from the franchise are going to be released on April 10th in digital edition, and with some new bonuses to help sucker you in to the purchase.
