Exclusive: Dubai-based sales agent Cercamon Docs has come aboard to handle worldwide sales on Ben Chace’s Music Pictures: New Orleans, which is set to bow at the Tribeca Film Festival in June. The company will introduce the film to buyers during the Cannes Market.

A Lilting Films production, Music Pictures is comprised of legacy portraits of four New Orleans music figures. They include Grammy Award winner Irma Thomas, whose song “Anyone Who Knows What Love Is” featured in the Fifteen Millions Merits episode of Black Mirror; The Tremé Brass Band, a recipient of the National Heritage Fellowship; Little Freddie King, a charter member of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival; and the late Ellis Marsalis, father of Branford and Wynton, who was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2018. The film includes Marsalis’ last recorded interviews and sessions.

A top-secret David Bowie project will soon see the light of day from the mind of Brett Morgen, the director behind “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck,” “Jane,” and “The Kid Stays in the Picture.” Per Variety, the hybrid film is based on thousands of hours of rarely seen concert and performance footage of Ziggy, who died from liver cancer in January 2016.

Sources told the publication that Morgen has been working on the Bowie film — which has yet to announce a title — for the past four years. A source also said the film is “neither documentary nor biography, but an immersive cinematic experience built, in part, upon thousands of hours of never before seen material.” That’s not unlike Morgen’s 2015 “Montage of Heck,” which blended more traditional documentary elements with expressionistic collages and artwork to explore the life and times of Nirvana frontman Cobain.

Les Arcs Film Festival, the European film fest programmed by Tribeca’s artistic director Frederic Boyer and set in the French Alps, has unveiled the lineup of its Coproduction Village which will be back as a live event after a virtual 2020 edition. The 13th edition of the industry sidebar will showcase 18 projects in development from 11 countries, including 8 projects directed by female directors.

Projects by female directors represented 34% of projects submitted and 44% of the final selection. There are seven feature debuts, and five projects by more experienced filmmakers. The coproduction Village aims at helping filmmakers find co-producers, sales agents, distributors and other financial partners.

Writer/director Ben Sharrock knows it too as he places them all in the same cramped apartment with a “Refugees Welcome” banner outside so they can argue about the merits of Ross and Rachel’s “break” courtesy of a burned Friends box set left behind by whomever lived there last. Add an eccentric cultural awareness course led by a duo in Helga (Sidse Babett Knudsen) and Boris (Kenneth Collard) who teach sexual harassment by having the former smack the latter’s intentionally handsy dance partner in the face and you’ll find yourself mimicking the class of foreigners watching in stunned silence thanks to the dryly humorous mix of confusion and horror.

Sharrock’s Limbo is very British in this way despite its multi-cultural cast of strangers in a very strange land.

Former White House advisor Seb Gorka says he called CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta a “d—head” during a heated verbal clash in the White House Briefing Room on Thursday.

According to Gorka, who is now a Fox News contributor and Salem Radio host, the argument erupted after Acosta questioned why he was there.

“So, I’m minding my own business right at the entrance of the White House briefing room on the inside,” Gorka told radio host Mark Levin. “And suddenly the door opens and in prances Jim Acosta… He grabs me by the arm, and says ‘You shouldn’t be here, this place is for real journalists.'”

6.2 Tribute

Tribute sputtered out of the gate with a main storyline that even the characters admit we have all seen before. It also serves to remind us of how ridiculous it is that anyone in Star City ever bought that the Hood and the Green Arrow were separate vigilantes – I mean come on, the suits weren’t even that different. On the positive side, this episode set up or built upon several points of conflict between Oliver and people who are fundamentally good (or at least not evil), which will likely be richer in the long run.
