Bleecker Street has bought North American rights to Harry Macqueen’s romantic drama “Supernova,” starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci.
The film, produced by Quiddity Films and The Bureau, will be released in the U.K. in November by Studiocanal. “Supernova” premiered in September at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
Firth and Tucci portray partners of 20 years who are traveling across England, visiting friends, family and places from their past. Tucci’s character was diagnosed with early-onset dementia so their time together has become more valuable than ever.
“When we saw this film, we were so taken by the beauty of the writing and how timeless of a love story Harry created,” Bleecker Street CEO Andrew Karpen said. “The performances of Colin and Stanley are so touching and authentic, we knew we wanted to be part of bringing it to audiences.”

Exclusive: Steve Buscemi and Wren Arthur’s Olive Productions has closed a two-year, first-look deal with TBS and TNT.
Under the pact, the New York-based company plans to mine their talent relationships to develop drama and comedy series for the two WarnerMedia networks. Buscemi and Arthur already are working on book and other IP adaptations, as well as several provocative and aspirational unscripted series ideas.
Unscripted programming’s importance at the two networks has been on the rise, especially at TNT.
The deal expands Buscemi’s relationship with TBS where he is star and executive producer of series Miracle Workers. The breakout comedy, TBS’ most watched original scripted series in Live+Same Day, has been renewed for a second season.
“Working with Steve on our hit TBS series Miracle Workers has truly been other-worldly,” said Brett Weitz, general manager TBS, TNT, and truTV. “He and Wren have demonstrated an exceptional...

Final Portrait also stars Golden Globe-winner Tony Shalhoub (TVs “Monk” 2002; “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Sylvie Testud (La Vie en Rose) and Clémence Poésy (In Bruges).

Congratulations are in order! Stanley Tucci is a dad again, as he and his wife, Felicity Blunt, welcomed their second child. His rep confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that Felicity birthed a daughter named Emilia Giovanna Tucci on April 19. The bundle of joy weighed in at 6 lbs., 6 oz. The duo has not publicly spoken out about their baby or even Felicity's pregnancy. Instead of making a verbal public announcement, the couple let Felicity's baby bump speak for itself during Guggenheim Museum's screening of Final Portrait in NYC on Thursday, March 22, just a month before she gave birth. At the special event, Felicity's sister Emily Blunt and her good friend Blake Lively were seen rubbing her pregnant belly. Stanley, 57, and Felicity, 36, previously met at Emily's wedding to John Krasinski in 2010, just one year after Stanley's first wife, Kate Tucci, sadly died. They got engaged in Berlin a year after Emily and John's...

Emily Blunt makes her horror film debut today in theaters nationwide — starring in husband John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place” — but she’s torn about whether she wants to reprise her breakout role in “The Devil Wears Prada.” During an appearance on “The Jess Cagle Interview,” Blunt said about a possible sequel to the 2006 film, “If everyone did it I would be up for it,” then added, “I don’t know” if there’s going to be a second film. “I almost hope it doesn’t [happen] because I think sometimes when you sequel everything kind of dilutes how special the original is.” (A source close to the studio said no sequel was in the works.)

Chicago – Comedy is purely subjective, and the new film ‘Blockers’ sets out to prove it, by expectorating joke after joke in all categories of sophistication. Physical pratfalls, witty asides, gross-out, sex, nudity, drugs, surrealism and more are all on the humor buffet, so pick, choose and laugh, as they pile it on.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Produced by the comedy mavens Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, among others, the story is basically framed within their style of keeping the humor flowing fast and furious. Some joke doesn’t land? They’ll be another one in a about a minute. It’s interesting in a pace like this frenzy that the film still seems overlong, but that really just has to do with the plot… parents wanting to deny their teenage daughters the opportunity to lose their virginity on prom night. It’s easy to guess the outcomes, which pretty much come to form within a bunch of clichés,...

Chicago – Paris in the 1960s seems to be a place where anything was possible. “Final Portrait” is an indication of this, as Armie Hammer portrays a Mad Men style American critic (what!) in 1964, who sits for a portrait painting by eccentric artist Alberto Giacometti, portrayed with relish by Geoffrey Rush.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
The film is written and directed by actor Stanley Tucci, and is his fifth directorial effort. And he brings along one of the lucky performers from his first film, “Big Night,” an unrecognizable Tony Shalhoub (“Monk”). The film – based on a true story – is deliberately paced, expressing the more leisurely and deeply felt times. One of the funnier bits is Hammer’s character constantly changing his airline flight as the portrait sitting goes on, something that may be impossible with such ease today (or with many fees attached). This is mostly a fascinating character study, as Geoffrey Rush has...

Marvel's Black Panther has been dominating at the box office since opening in theaters last month, becoming the first movie since Avatar to win five weekends in a row, but now its box office reign has finally come to an end. Black Panther slipped to second place with $16.6 million in its sixth frame this weekend, being dethroned by newcomer Pacific Rim Uprising, which won with an estimated $28 million. Black Panther's run is still far from over, but it's reign at the top has come to a close.
Black Panther played in 3,370 theaters this weekend, dropping 464 theaters from the previous weekend, falling just 37.5%, which is quite impressive in its sixth weekend, with a $4,394 per-screen average. If there was any doubt about Wes Anderson’s continued draw as a contemporary auteur, “Isle of Dogs” removes them. His latest stop-motion epic boosted the dragging post-Oscar specialty market, opening in 27 theaters in six markets to a massive $1.5 million with a mighty per theater average of $58,000. The result came from a range of upscale theaters, not just core art houses. Fox Searchlight has a breakout.
On its third weekend, IFC’s comedy “The Death of Stalin” continues its strong run with over $1 million. Audiences that were flocking to award season contenders are carrying over to these two new releases. Stanley Tucci has spent the majority of his directing career telling stories about eccentric artists, but it wasn’t until “Final Portrait” that he seemed to find them annoying. The struggling chefs of “Big Night,” the struggling actors of “The Imposters” and the struggling author of “Joe Gould’s Secret” could be forgiven their obsessions and flaws because they have nothing else to show for their lifetimes of work. If they behaved the exact same way after they were critically acclaimed and financially successful, they would be completely insufferable, just like this film’s version of Alberto Giacometti. “Final Portrait” stars Geoffrey Rush as...

We bet a million girls would kill for a night out with these stars. On Thursday night, John Krasinski was the lucky guy who got to mingle with two of the ladies from one of his favorite films, The Devil Wears Prada: his beloved wife Emily Blunt and the queen of the silver screen herself, Meryl Streep. Yes, he loves his job, he loves his job, he loves his job. The star, who once admitted to Blunt that he had already seen the 2006 flick 75 times, mingled with the two stars at a screening for Final Portrait at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. However, paths didn't finish crossing at Streep. The film was directed by Stanley Tucci, who famously played...

Surprise! Stanley Tucci and Felicity Blunt have another baby on the way. The literary agent has not discussed her second pregnancy publicly. Rather, Felicity let her baby bump speak for itself by joining him at the Guggenheim Museum's screening of Final Portrait in New York City Thursday. Felicity's sister, Emily Blunt, and friend, Blake Lively, were seen rubbing her belly on the red carpet. It's unclear how far along she is; E! News has reached out to Stanley's rep for comment. The parents-to-be met in 2010 during Emily's wedding to John Krasinski. They got engaged in Berlin a year later and exchanged vows in a private ceremony in 2012. They celebrated their marriage with a group of...

The setting is Paris in 1964. Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti (Geoffrey Rush) has invited his friend, the American art writer James Lord (Armie Hammer), to pose for a portrait. Intrigued and flattered – Giacometti's elongated sculptures and paintings had made him world famous – the subject agrees to sit for the master. Expecting to model for a few days, Lord found himself at the mercy of the notoriously self-critical artist for three weeks.
That's the movie, a "mere" look at an artist at work in his chosen habitat. Giacometti's Paris studio, beautifully captured by production designer James Merifield,...

Armie Hammer shared his thoughts about being directed by Stanley Tucci in the drama Final Portrait during a special screening Monday at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.
“He’s a charming son of a bitch,” Hammer told The Hollywood Reporter of Tucci, who also wrote the script for the pic, which tells the story of artist Alberto Giocometti as he paints his last portrait of American-journalist James Lord.
Working with Tucci included a post-shoot martini tradition, recap sessions that took place following each day of shooting and the actor-director's habit of asking the stars of the film where “they would like to...

Faith-based filmmaking isn’t dead. While the genre has struggled recently to turn out crossover hits (and nothing has topped the $611M take of Mel Gibson’s controversial smash hit “The Passion of the Christ,” still the top earner in the genre 14 years after its release), brothers Andrew and Jon Erwin’s latest film, “I Can Only Imagine,” surprised this weekend’s box office with a $17 million opening take, good enough to push it to third place in a crowded field. Among contemporary Christian community titles, only “Heaven Is for Real” had a better opening, scoring $22 million when it opened in 2014.
Other faith-based movies have recently faltered at the box office, making the success of “I Can Only Imagine” as a bit of an outlier in a struggling — and often independently made — genre. The last big Christian-leaning hit to crack $100 million at the domestic box office was 2010’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader...

Armie Hammer has been making the most of his Euro trip movie roles. Of course, he spent nearly all of last year basking in the warmth of the Italy set, Oscar contending “Call Me By Your Name.” Now the actor plays a handsome American in Paris in the upcoming “Final Portrait.”
Written and directed by Stanley Tucci, and co-starring Geoffrey Rush, Clémence Poésy, Tony Shalhoub and Sylvie Testud, the film tells the true story of the relationship between James Lord and the painter Alberto Giacometti.

"Your whole life can be swallowed up..." Sony Pictures Classics has debuted a new official Us trailer for the film Final Portrait, which was one of my favorites from last year's Berlin Film Festival. Glad it's finally hitting Us theaters soon. The film stars Geoffrey Rush as accomplished Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti, an eccentric painter and sculptor who lived in Paris for the the last years of his life. The story is all about his friendship with an American journalist named James Lord, played by Armie Hammer, who visited in the 1960s. Giacometti asked Lord to sit down for a portrait, to be finished in only a few days, but it ends up going on and on for months - his final portrait. This also stars Clémence Poésy and Tony Shalhoub. I wrote in my review from last year's Berlinale: "Rush gives such an outstanding performance, it's compelling and thoroughly enjoyable to watch him.

To mark the release of Final Portrait on 8th January, we’ve been given 2 copies to give away on DVD.
In 1964, while on a short trip to Paris, the American writer and art-lover James Lord (Armie Hammer) is asked by his friend, the world-renowned artist Alberto Giacometti (Geoffrey Rush), to sit for a portrait. The process, Giacometti assures Lord, will take only a few days. Flattered and intrigued, Lord agrees.
So, begins not only the story of a touching and offbeat friendship, but, seen through the eyes of Lord, a uniquely revealing insight into the beauty, frustration, profundity and, at times, downright chaos of the artistic process. Final Portrait is a bewitching portrait of a genius, and of a friendship between two men who are utterly different, yet increasingly bonded through a single, ever-evolving act of creativity. It is a film which shines a light on the artistic process itself,...

Known primarily for his wok on-screen, Stanley Tucci returns to the director’s chair with his latest project, the Giacometti biopic Final Portrait.
We had the pleasure of sitting down with the talented filmmaker earlier this year at the Berlin film festival, where he discusses his established interest in the aforementioned artist, portrayed here by Geoffrey Rush. He also explains how he took a film that deliberately thrives in the notion of tedium, feel so engaging – and why not taking a role in the project allowed him to focus so heavily on getting the tone right.
He also speaks about where he discovered his passion for film, and what he believes the future holds for independent cinema. Finally he speaks about fishing, and just how bad at it he is.
Was Giacometti someone you knew a lot about before starting this?
Oh my God, yeah. I knew...

With a host of impressive, eclectic projects to his name – Armie Hammer is an actor you might want to start paying real attention (Call Me By Your Name isn’t far away now, after all). His latest is Final Portrait, where he plays journalist James Lord, who has the pleasure/burden of posing for a portrait for Swiss artist Giacometti (Geoffrey Rush) – in a film directed by Stanley Tucci.
We sat down with Hammer at the Berlin film festival to speak about the role at hand – and what it was like collaborating with both Rush and Tucci. He speaks about his own ambitions to one day direct, his struggles in becoming the actor he is today, and why he’s started to turn to independent features. He also goes on to discuss his nomadic upbringing, his future project Freak Shift with Ben Wheatley, and the downsides to being famous.

The star of In Bruges and Harry Potter on working with Stanley Tucci, Brexit and Le Pen, and her fears for generation Instagram
The French actor Clémence Poésy, 34, is best known for her roles in The Tunnel, In Bruges and as Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter films. In Stanley Tucci’s film of the life of artist Alberto Giacometti she plays opposite Geoffrey Rush and Armie Hammer. She lives in Paris and east London, and earlier this year gave birth to her first child, Liam.
Your character in Final Portrait is Giacometti’s mistress and muse, Caroline. She’s full of life and colour, but is very temperamental and often skittish. How did you want to play her?
I was constantly scared of her being too much. But Stanley had his film very clear in his head, and knew that the story needed that burst of energy at some points.

After its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival back in February 2017, where it received rave reviews, Stanley Tucci’s Final Portrait has finally released an endearing trailer.
Related: Final Portrait Review
Starring Geoffrey Rush as the eccentric and procrastinating artist Alberto Giacometti and Armie Hammer as the American writer James Lord, Final Portrait is written and directed by the exceptional Stanley Tucci.
In the trailer, Rush with an odd resemblance to Bob Dylan portrays the artistic genius with utter believability as his own self-doubt turns him into a grumpy perfectionist behind the canvas as Armie Hammer’s Lord becomes impatient at the amount of time it takes the man to create his portrait. Graced with light-hearted humour, Giacometti struggles with alcohol and dabbles in an extramarital affair in order to let loose.

Although he’s best known for his acting career, Stanley Tucci also gets behind the camera every so often and he’s now done so for the first time in a decade with Final Portrait. The film follows American writer James Lord (Armie Hammer) as he sits for the final portrait by artist Alberto Giacometti (Geoffrey Rush). Following a premiere at this year’s Berlinale and ahead of a U.K. release this summer, the first trailer has now arrived.
“Enough footage of Alberto Giacometti exists to suggest that Geoffrey Rush is quite uncanny as the renowned surrealist sculptor in Final Portrait, a depiction of the seventeen days it took him to paint his last portrait, that of the American writer James Lord (played here by Armie Hammer),” we said in our review. “Based on Lord’s resulting 1965 book A Giacometti Portrait, it’s an elegant if somewhat unambitious piece...

We’re in the midst of the big summer holiday in North America, with Canadians coming off July 1st and Americans gearing up for July 4th. So, it’s the perfect time for the first trailer for an art dramedy about an eccentric painter, right? Well, the folks behind “Final Portrait” sure think so.
Starring Geoffrey Rush, Armie Hammer, Clémence Poésy, Tony Shalhoub and Sylvie Testud, and directed by Stanley Tucci, the film is “a charming, modest” look at the unique artistic process of painter Alberto Giacometti, as he hits down to compose a portrait of art-lover James Lord.
