This film rattles along at a good pace and doesn't feel the need to extend its 80 minutes running time with unnecessary backstories. It doesn't ask us to like the characters or feel any sympathy for them - they are what they are, take them or leave them. Ten minutes shorter than any premier league match with a lot more action and better French acting to boot.
The Crew is a very tense film, but nothing stellar if you're not in a thinking mood. Although not the most intelligent crime thriller, dropping the in-your-face attitude of the typical action blockbuster benefits the suspense of this movie. More often than not, I found myself contemplating what would happen next, above all else. And, with the best timing--although not too frequently--morbidly quick action cuts in to blow the tension. If you want helicopters dropping nuclear warheads on every world leader while the protagonist has to scale buildings in order to save the planet from extinction--go watch Mission Impossible. But if you want a story capitalizing on tension and brevity in order to recall the double-edged tragic tales of an assortment of real, tangible characters, The Crew is a great choice.
French action movies of the recent past, have one thing in common: they do know their action stunt stuff. So even if you're not that into the stories or characters of the movies, at least you'll have something to enjoy. Be it a car chase, a shootout or just the pure tension in builds in confrontational scenes between the characters.
This has a gang of people who know their criminal abilities and do utilize them as good as they can. With a charismatic leader like that, it's not that hard to get that. Of course as you can imagine, some things will go awry. The question is, will they get straight again. Although which side are you on? Can you cheer them on? It's just a movie, but I know some people have issues with rooting for criminals even in a make belief scenario like this ...

Okay guys, give this movie a chance. The plot is decent and the movie is not long, it's long enough for you to engage the characters and really get into it. Looking forward to the sequel!
A pretty straightforward film.
'The Crew' starts off intriguing, as we meet Yanis, Eric & Co. to get a gist of what they're about. Then comes the big event, which precedes the finale. As mentioned, it's straight to the point - not much character development etc.
It all becomes a bit too predictable, with the ending concluding a little open-ended. A few other things slightly bugged me, like when the big things go down the roads are empty - made the world, at those points, feel empty.
In conclusion, it's an average film - not terrible, not great. The second act is the standout part. Sami Bouajila is the star of this, though props to Guillaume Gouix too.
