Over the last decade, the John Wickfilm series has solidified itself as arguably the greatest action movie franchise in history. Spanning four films, the John Wick film series chronicles the titular character and skilled assassin John Wick's attempt to retire from the criminal underworld. The series began with the seismic 2014 debut of John Wick, which laid the foundation for the film series with an impressive 86% Fresh score and introduced the complicated, dangerous lifestyle of the infamous assassin. Since its inception, the John Wick franchise has grossed over $1 billion at the box office — a rare feat for a film series. Given its immense popularity and robust commercial success, many have pined for a fifth installation of the film series. Despite fans clamoring for more, John Wick star Keanu Reeves recently poured cold water on the potential of another sequel.

A criminally underrated Western series is raising hell on free streaming as it forges a path up the ranks and into the top 10. Beginning more than a decade ago in 2011, Hell on Wheels transports audiences all the way back to 1865 and follows a former Confederate soldier who, while tackling demons in his war-torn past, plans a mission of revenge amid the emerging Union Pacific's construction of the first transcontinental railroad.
Created and produced by Joe and Tony Gayton, Hell on Wheels was initially broadcast on AMC, and ran for five seasons. Led by Anson Mount as Cullen Bohannon, the rest of the cast includes Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Common (John Wick: Chapter 2), and Dominique McElligott (The Boys).
Hell on Wheels did find a small cult following at the time, but now that the series is available to stream on Freevee, the show has reached heights of #9 in the top 10 so far.

Eva Longoria's John Wick involvement is a surprising but pivotal part of the iconic action franchise. Known for her work in Hollywood spanning the past few decades, Longoria has acted in, produced for, and directed countless films and television shows in the English and Spanish languages. Longoria is immediately recognizable for her acting in the award-winning comedy-drama Desperate Housewives, the well-established soap opera The Young and the Restless, and nostalgic films like The Heartbreak Kid (2007) and Over Her Dead Body (2008).
While many know Longoria from her acting achievements, she has just as much experience behind the scenes as she does out in the limelight. Longoria has directed major projects, from the 2023 biographical comedy Flamin' Hot to episodes of Blackish. She is also credited with producing several entertainment favorites, including the hit series Devious Maids, and more surprisingly, the first film in the billion-dollar John Wick franchise. It was recently reported that Apple TV+ has renewed the Rebecca Ferguson show for two more seasons and is planning to end after season 4. Season 2 has just finished its run. Season 3 is currently being filmed, and season 4 is being written so they can shoot back-to-back. Silo follows the last 10,000 people on Earth as they navigate life in their mile-deep underground home protecting them from the toxic outside world. The catch? No one knows when or why the silo was built and anyone who goes snooping for answers faces fatal consequences. The series has an impressive cast that includes Ferguson (Doctor Sleep), Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption), David Oyelowo (Selma), Common (John Wick: Chapter 2), and Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation).

Another time loop movie, anyone? Sony Pictures has released a featurette containing first-look footage from the upcoming adaptation of the beloved horror video game Until Dawn. The video game focuses on a group of eight young adults as players make life or death decisions for them as they try to survive a night with a killer on Blackwood Mountain. However, like many other video game adaptations, the movie will not be adapting the original story but instead putting a new group of characters on the mountain with a different take on the butterfly effect decision-making that catapulted the game to fame.
The new clip shows off the talented team behind the new horror adaptation, as well as how the film is taking a unique approach to the world of Until Dawn. In the featurette, director David F. Sandberg — director of horror hits Lights Out and Annabelle Creation — and writer Gary Dauberman...

A Working Man is the upcoming collaboration between Jason Statham and David Ayer, and its story steals a concept from John Wick 2. The movie will be a loose adaptation of Chuck Dixon’s acclaimed novel “Devon’s Trade”, which follows a building contractor who’s pulled into a dark web of crime and conspiracy when his boss’ daughter goes missing in a suspected kidnapping. The story details Statham’s protagonist’s journey to find the missing girl and enact revenge upon those who took her. Judging by the trailer for A Working Man, the film will be much darker and grittier than the book.
What’s most exciting about A Working Man is the reunion between Statham and Ayer, who previously worked together on The Beekeeper. While that film wasn’t perfect, it was an extremely bold and stylistic project that was never afraid to take its narrative to unexpected places.

Keanu Reeves largely became a household name due to his work in the action genre. Point Break in 1991 was a seminal film in this respect, as was Speed in 1994. Of course, the film that cemented Reeves' position as an action star was The Matrix in 1999, which was a massive hit both critically and commercially, and was followed by four sequels.
After a career lull starting in the late 2000s that extended into the early 2010s, Reeves came back in a big way in 2014 with the release of John Wick. Reeves' portrayal of the titular assassin, aided by the assured action direction of Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, was a surprise hit, and he has now reprised the role for five films in total, including the acclaimed John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023. Reeves can next be seen as Wick in the upcoming spinoff, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas.

Since the first film premiered in 2014, the John Wick franchise has become a massive success. The series started with the title character (Keanu Reeves) as a former hitman who is out to seek vengeance on the people who broke into his house, stole his car, and killed his dog. Filled with intense action sequences, fabulous visuals, and fantastic performances, it’s no wonder John Wick has enjoyed tremendous success. It is widely considered to be one of the best modern-day action movie franchises.

Without a doubt, one of the highlights of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the appearance of Keanu Reeves — albeit in the form of Sonic's number one rival, Shadow the Hedgehog. While working with the renowned action movie star, Sonic franchise writers Josh Miller and Pat Casey couldn't resist slipping in a few homages to Reeves' past projects — but one reference in particular didn't quite make the cut.
Reeves has previously appeared as the star of two major franchises even before his transformation into the ultimate lifeform: the Matrix trilogy and the seemingly never-ending John Wick series. With such an impressive resume, it's no wonder that Miller and Casey wanted to reference these iconic works. Speaking to CinemaBlend, the writers discussed the two Easter eggs they managed to pull off — as well as the one they didn't.

John Wick: Chapter 2's hall of mirrors fight sequence prompts enthusiastic reactions from VFX artists, who point out the challenges involved in the endeavor. After the surprise success of the first movie in 2014, Keanu Reeves returned as assassin John Wick for director Chad Stahelski's bigger and bolder sequel. The film ups the action from the first installment with some stunning fight sequences, including a climactic one set within a hall of mirrors as Wick fights through a horde of enemies.
In a recent episode of Corridor Crew's "VFX Artists React" YouTube series, artists Sam Gorski, Wren Weichman, and Jordan Allen broke down John Wick: Chapter 2's hall of mirrors sequence and how it was pulled off. Why Did Ruby Rose Stepped Down From Her Batwoman Role? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
In 2020, CW fans were left scratching their heads when Ruby Rose announced she was stepping away from her lead role in Batwoman. Yes, Batwoman—as in the titular superhero she brought to life. The news dropped right after the season 1 finale, leaving viewers wondering why Ruby would abandon the cape and cowl just as Gotham’s story was heating up?
The answer was more straightforward—and messier—than expected. According to reports from Variety, it wasn’t health concerns (despite Ruby’s previous back injury) or online harassment (she’d already weathered that storm as a lesbian actress portraying a lesbian superhero). Instead, it all boiled down to this: the grueling schedule.
As the lead in a CW series, Ruby Rose faced long hours, which apparently created “friction on set.” Tack on the fact that Batwoman season 1 had a whopping 20 episodes,...

As she waits to hear from Vin Diesel on the status of xXx 4, Ruby Rose is open to returning to another one of her more memorable movie roles. The actor recently shared that she would love to reprise her John Wick: Chapter 2 role of Ares for a spinoff centered around the mute assassin.
While speaking with Screen Rant to promote her new action thriller Dirty Angels, Rose was asked if she had any interest in exploring Ares further in the John Wick Universe, possibly as a prequel spinoff to Chapter 2. "Oh, I would love that. I mean, I don't know if that would happen, but I mean, she was fantastic and I loved speaking sign language and I love the sort of intricacies of that and what her whole kind of shtick was," she shared. "But yeah, I don't know, I would love to see the backstory of her.

For a long time, it was thought that Keanu Reeves would always be known as Neo from The Matrix, and nothing else. However, over the last 10 years, he’s become synonymous with another character that’s changed action movies forever. Keanu Reeves stars as John Wick in all four John Wick movies, the first three of which are all streaming for free on Pluto. Not only are John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, and John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum all streaming on Pluto TV, but they also occupy the top three spots on the streamer, in the order of release. The fourth John Wick is, however, not streaming for free on Pluto; fans will need to purchase a subscription to Starz to watch Reeves kick butt in John Wick: Chapter 4.

John Wick did something truly impressive and surprising in 2017, and if Keanu Reeves returns for John Wick 5, the franchise will almost definitely do it again. After the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4, the future of the franchise looks somewhat uncertain. There are a number of upcoming John Wick spinoffs in varying stages of development, including Ana de Armas' Ballerina and Donnie Yen's Caine spinoff, as well as the upcoming TV show Under the High Table. Even with so many new projects on the horizon, however, it's not clear if Keanu Reeves will continue to play John Wick.
After 10 years of John Wick, Keanu Reeves is almost synonymous with the eponymous character. It's hard to imagine anyone leading the John Wick franchise, even though there are already a few contenders. As such, there's a chance that Reeves could return to the confirmed John Wick 5. John Wick (2014) stars Keanu Reeves as a legendary assassin who seemingly can't be beaten, even by hundreds of other highly respected assassins. Over the last ten years, John Wick has made a name for himself as one of the best action-thriller protagonists ever. Fans can't get enough of this series, so much so, that John Wick spin-offs are spreading like wildfire.
The John Wick universe is expansive and features impressive world-building that many other films in the genre lack. The unique flare that John Wick brings to the table speaks for itself, and it's hard to argue that these movies are anything less than incredible. That said, the franchise has inconsistencies, plot holes, and details that don't make sense. This isn't unusual. No franchise is perfect, especially once it expands to half a dozen films and a TV miniseries.

The John Wick film series is known for being brutal, gritty and bloody. The first film has more than 70 on-screen kills during Keanu Reeves' mission of revenge, setting the bar very high for later sequels. John Wick, the notorious assassin nicknamed Baba Yaga, is one of the most dangerous in the crime underworld. The series follows his journey as a rogue agent when the mob world calls him back again. While the world doesn't change much, there's nothing about Wick that stays the same.
Wick is going through the cycle of grieving in the first three movies which span only a few weeks. He makes many decisions, though not all wise. Some of them have serious consequences that lead to him running around with a bounty on his head. Wick also has to go the extra mile just to undo his own mistake; but it turns out he's just going...

Nobody 2 is gearing up to be one of the biggest action movies of 2025, and Bob Odenkirk's franchise is looking more and more like the perfect John Wick replacement with every update. Despite the original film's modest budget, John Wick has grown into a blockbuster juggernaut and the standard-bearer for modern action movies, grossing over $1 billion across its four installments. As a result, it has spawned many similar projects, but none have come as close to matching the franchise's tone and personality as Nobody, making it all the more ironic that the IPs are set to compete.
John Wick's Ballerina spinoff and Nobody 2 both have 2025 release dates, putting the two films head-to-head. While John Wick has a bigger budget and a more identifiable name, seeing how Odenkirk's sequel compares to Ballerina will be a great measuring stick for its potential longevity. John Wick has always set itself apart, but it was not until John Wick: Chapter Two that the franchise was fully defined. Led by Keanu Reeves, the movie series tells the story of former assassin John Wick, who works to secure the chance to retire. John Wick is the best action movie franchise of the last decade, with the Keanu Reeves-led series spawning multiple sequels, a prequel series, and multiple spinoffs including a surprising anime. As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, the John Wick anime has confirmed its placement on the timeline, depicting the "impossible task" that sets up Wick for his five-year retirement before the first film's events. Such an ambitious undertaking set up the Tarasov Mob's power, but the question has always lingered on fans' minds just the scope of such an undertaking for a hitman like John Wick.

In the late ‘80s, The Killer’s Game director J.J. Perry moved to Los Angeles shortly after completing his service in the U.S. Army, and almost immediately, he became fast friends with future John Wick co-mastermind Chad Stahelski. The pair cut their teeth as stuntmen, fight choreographers and stunt coordinators, and when Stahelski and his former partner, David Leitch, transitioned to the director’s chair on John Wick, Perry started to imagine himself in a similar position for the very first time.
Once John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 became pop culture phenomenons, Stahelski, through 87eleven Entertainment, and Leitch, through his own offshoot company 87North, began to pay their good fortunate forward so that other stunt professionals could get a crack at one of the most coveted jobs in the entertainment industry. Amid major movie market upheavals, Leone Film Group is still the main Italian distributor of top-notch English-language indie film fare, spanning all genres with titles from directors such as Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
But while in the past Leone Film Group relied on output deals with U.S. indies, such as Lionsgate and Spielberg’s Amblin, these days “we supply ourselves from whomever has worthy product,” says its head of acquisitions Francesco Polimanti. That includes titles such as recent hit “Civil War,” with Kirsten Dunst, “John Wick 4” with Keanu Reeves as the iconic assassin and the upcoming “Dumb Money.”
Polimanti went on a buying spree in May at Cannes, where he picked up a trio from Black Bear, including Guy Ritchie’s next film, “Wife and Dog,” set in the world of British aristocracy. It marks the fifth Ritchie-directed movie that will go out in Italy through Leone.

Nobody 2, set to premiere in 2025, promises an updated cast, more action, and answers from the first film. Bob Odenkirk returns. Following the success of Nobody, the sequel must learn from John Wick and increase its budget for grander action sequences. Nobody 2 should aim for larger-scale production and more dramatic action to replicate the success of the first film and appeal to audiences.
Despite growing excitement for Nobody 2, the sequel should consider borrowing some tricks from the wildly successful John Wick franchise. The first film, Nobody, follows Hutch Mansell, a suburban assassin played by Bob Odenkirk. Nobody 2 will have an updated cast, more action, and hopefully answer some questions from the first film. Odenkirk is confirmed to be returning to the role of Mansell.
Some of Nobody 2's details are confirmed, though many remain unreleased, with the movie set to premiere in 2025. The first film was well received by audiences,...

The Lego Batman Movie, released in 2017, was a spin-off of the critically acclaimed and box office smash hit The Lego Movie, which was released in 2014. The movie was a comedic take on the caped crusader with Batman (Will Arnett) being forced to open himself up to the idea of a Bat family after adopting Dick Grayson/Robin (Michael Cera), and Gotham City is threatened by a bitter and jealous Joker (Zach Galifianakis) as Batman refuses to recognize him as his arch enemy.

More money, more problems. That seems to be the motto of Netflix’s brand new competition series, in which one contestant is saddled with a $1 million prize as the other 11 players fight to hunt them down and claim it for themselves.
The series, with the working title “Million Dollar Secret,” will be hosted by Peter Serafinowicz, the British comedian and actor whose credits include “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Shaun of the Dead,” “John Wick: Chapter 2” and “Spy.”
Here’s how the competition works, in Netflix’s own words: “The million-dollar prize is won by one of 12 players right at the start of the first episode. Now, the others will hunt them down – eliminate the millionaire and the money moves to someone new. When should they strike? Updated: Warner Bros’ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was greeted with a very warm reception during its Cannes Film Festival world premiere in an early showcase last week, and amid much love for franchise architect George Miller. It has followed up with strong critical and social scores. Nevertheless, in this currently wonky theatrical landscape, the prequel underperformed in its global opening this launch weekend, grossing $58.9M from 76 total markets through Sunday.
That includes $33.3M from overseas play and $25.6M from domestic; the latter for its Friday-Sunday. We are waiting on confirmation of the four-day North American number given the domestic holiday on Monday.
Yes, we expected higher when we did our preview earlier this week, and perhaps the industry as a whole was praying too much at the feet of this origin story. It’s undeniably got some amazing action.

We've written a lot here at /Film about how water can be a director's biggest nightmare, but it's also worth mentioning those pesky mirrors. Their reflective surfaces make it extra difficult to avoid the cameraman and other crew members accidentally popping up in the shot. It's something that really complicated the filming of franchises like "The Matrix," where half the characters are wearing reflective sunglasses most of the time. It also made that one mirror room sequence in "John Wick 2" nearly impossible to pull off.
The bright side of mirrors is that they do tend to make scenes look better. A room with mirrors looks more spacious than a room without them, and their reflections provide all sorts of opportunities for fun visual foreshadowing or thematic subtext. There's also the fun meta aspect of "how'd they pull this off?" for the audience. It's tough to figure out how Alfonso Cuarón...

France-based Vivendi posted Q1 revenues of €4.28B ($4.6B), up 5.4% on 2023’s numbers when using constant currencies and and the businesses the firm owns today. No earnings were revealed in the unaudited numbers.
Within those numbers, Canal+ saw revenues grow 4.3% year-on-year to €1.5B (+3.5% at constant currency and perimeter). International revenues were up 5.8% thanks to subscriber growth, particularly in Africa, where Canal+ has been buying up shares in MultiChoice and looks set to take over the South African giant. Mainland France TV operations revenue was up over 5%.
However, Studiocanal saw revenues decline compared with 2023, when the likes of Alibi.com 2 and John Wick 2 had significant domestic and international launches.
Other notable performances saw social video platform Dailymotion increase revenues by 24.8%, with the ‘New Initiatives’ division it is housed in posting €42M in revenues overall.

Before the female-led spinoff Ballerina, Atomic Blonde already served as the perfect response to the John Wick series nearly a decade ago. Both Atomic Blonde and John Wick share similar themes, styles, and action-packed scenes, making them ideal for a potential crossover. While Atomic Blonde 2 is currently in development limbo, the introduction of the Ballerina spinoff could pave the way for future crossover opportunities.
John Wick is preparing for its female spinoff, Ballerina, but the female response to Wick had already arrived seven years ago, though it was quickly forgotten. One of the most recent successes in the action genre is the John Wick saga. When she's not hosting her talk show, Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson stars in movies every now and then. She was rightfully Academy Award-nominated for her spellbinding turn as the one and only Aretha Franklin a few years back, and now she's back in the leading role of yet another high-profile feature film. Breathe, however, is much less impactful, despite its boasting of a dynamite cast that also features Common (Silo), Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil), Sam Worthington (Avatar), and Quvenzhan Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild).
In addition to Dreamgirls star Hudson, Jovovich has starred in some terrific movies over the years, though Breathe falls short of most of them. Both leading ladies give it their all, though it doesn't help that their male counterparts, Common and Worthington, are arguably underutilizedeven if the Australian Worthington turns a bit maniacal in the third act. Oh well.

It’s been seven years since the release of Atomic Blonde, the action thriller starring Charlize Theron as top-level MI6 spy Lorraine Broughton. As the film was a box-office and critical success, it begs the question: where the hell is the sequel? Atomic Blonde screenwriter Kurt Johnstad isn’t sure what’s going on with a followup, but he recently told CinemaBlend that he always envisioned Lorraine’s story as a trilogy.
“To me, I always said that’s a trilogy,” Johnstad said. “You could tell three of those, and I hope they crack it. If they need some help, they know where to find me.“
Charlize Theron confirmed that a sequel was in the works in 2018, with her production company, Denver & Delilah Productions, heading up the project. Johnstad hasn’t heard anything from them, saying that it’s possible “they may have gone to another writer, they may have a draft.

Viewers will be able to stream classics like ‘The Godfather,’ contemporary action like ‘John Wick,’ and more on Apple TV+ for a limited time.
If you’re looking for a movie night this week and you want to curl up with an old favorite, why not try Apple TV+? Normally, this streaming service only carries its own original TV shows and films, but Mac Rumors reports that during the month of April it will offer 29 licensed movies for a limited time. This is the second such experiment from Apple TV+ recently, suggesting that the streamer is seriously considering adding library content as a permanent fixture going forward.
Titles available on Apple TV+ in April include “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” “Forest Gump,” “Transformers” and more. The movies will only be available on Apple TV+ for four to eight weeks each. Apple TV+ first began this experiment in early March,...

22 months ago, we caught word that an “edge-of-your-seat survival thriller” starring Jennifer Hudson of Respect and Dreamgirls and Milla Jovovich of The Fifth Element and Resident Evil was about to head into production – and now we finally know when we’re going to have a chance to see the movie, which is titled Breathe. It will be getting a theatrical, digital, and on demand release on April 26th, and with that date just one month away, a trailer has made its way online. You can check it out in the embed above.
Directed by Stefon Bristol, who won a Film Independent Spirit Award for his 2017 short film See You Yesterday, from a Black List screenplay by Doug Simon, Breathe follows a mother named Maya and her daughter, who are forced to live underground after Earth is made uninhabitable due to a lack of oxygen. Only short trips to the surface...

Super macho bro-fests led by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone dominated the '80s, "Die Hard" ushered in a wave of more workaday, everyman heroes, and "The Matrix" and the rise of Hong Kong cinema-inspired American action cinema evolved the genre in the late '90s and into the 2000s. But unquestionably, the defining action movie of the past decade is "John Wick." Which makes it funny to think about how that first movie initially felt like just another straight-to-vod action movie before a screening at a festival convinced director Chad Stahelski he had a hit on his hands.
Of course, a big part of the film's (and the eventual franchise's) success stems from its incredible action choreography, which makes each fight scene feel fresh and unique. Likewise, the franchise has the kind of organic world-building and lore most Hollywood cinematic universes dream of,...
