Interesting story but they're all awful

This is a very long series; while the story is interesting and the characters all are fairly interesting in their own way, there is not one person in this who isn't the most selfish, arrogant or horrible person on the planet. How every single character can just be so unlikeable is beyond me, yet somehow they turned this into a story that works and is watchable.

Probably the best character is Tae-ju because of his OTT facial expressions, immaturity and weirdness. He totally makes this show watchable for the 53 or so episodes in this marathon. The worst is the snooty rich, clueless spoiled girl; she is just wrong in every possible way. I'd avoid her like the plague and move to the US by myself if I ended up married to her.

Watch it, but be prepared for some really awful people, who sadly really do exist in the real world.

Funny and insightful - a must watch for parents and children alike

Hilarious, cleverly written and always involving, this is one of the best Korean family dramas. Much of it is very funny and compassionate and there is hardly ever a dull or confusing moment or unnecessary scene. The parent child relationship is at the heart of this show and viewers of all generations will enjoy seeing things from the different points of view and see themselves in the characters. At first it seems like a devoted father and three spoiled children but later you get to see things from the children's point of view too. Everyone has lessons to learn. The relationships of the 3 children are all interesting in their own way. The first one is the youthful romance with rookie actors at the time who have gone on to major lead roles. Park Hyung Shik plays the youngest son finding his way and he loves a charming country girl played by Nam Ji Hyun. The second one is that of the daughter secretary and her emotionally challenged boss are expertly portrayed by the pretty and talented actress Kim Hyun Joo and a Kim Sang Kyung who is very funny without being painful. The stiff doctor son and his rich pampered wife have the most to learn. The supporting characters each play a part. The trouble making aunt and her daughter and the Chairman and his controlling selfish second wife and the Hospital director and his pretentious wife all lead to the expertly constructed chaos. An early role of Seo Kang Joon who is quite an amusing savvy guy as the friend of the younger son. For a 2014 show this series isn't dated. Lots going on throughout. Insightful look at money issues. Just a few dragging overwrought scenes in the final stretch. A must watch.

    The Quilts on the Dresser

There's some slapstick and lots of moments that will have you laughing hard but, at its heart, this story is not a casual watch.

It takes a deep dive into complex family relationships stressed by conflicting desires. Soon, everything comes to a stop after an accidental fall.

Much of this story is nuanced and some of it is so subtle, it would be easy to miss... like the quilts, left folded on the dresser. (you have to watch till the end to know what that's about!).

The ensemble cast fit perfectly together and each one was just right for their role. So well balanced is this show that each character got their fair share of camera time; the masterful writing wove every storyline together seamlessly.

Finally: if you, like so many others, suffer from a lack of consideration from your adult children - or an overbearing parent, this one will sock you in the gut.... and in the heart.

One of the best family kdrama!!

This drama made me realise why we should appreciate our parents. It's better late than never. Overall, this drama made me play with my emotions. I laugh so hard at first because everyone have their own character, then I end up getting angry in the middle of the drama with the law suit and how bad the children treated their dad and aunt, at last, i cries non stop after their father revealed his sickness. I can't stop crying on the last episode where everyone join the singing contest and that's the last time we get to see cha sun bong. Anyway, i really hate how every parents think they have the right to control their children or in laws life when they are adult and they can think of their own. I love everyone here. I watched because of Kang Seo Jun and end up loving the Cha's family and everyone. Good to see they have progress in their characters and not ending up toxic.

    Rollercoaster of emotions

Having just discovered Park Hyung Sik and binge watching all his shows, this was one of them.

Watched it for Hyung Sik but kind of fallen in love with the Cha family and have withdrawal symptoms now that I finished watching.

A really good family drama. It made me laugh, cry (keep tissues handy), made me get so mad at the kids, personally made me cherish my family.

Watch it for the family entertainment. Watch and fall in love with Cha Dal Bong and Kang Seo Wool. Don't be out off by 53 episodes. It's worth your time.
