    Interesting

This movie has a strange after effect, but I don't want to do spoilers so suffice it to say that I'm glad I saw it. I'm a huge fan of the movie The Snow Walker, and if you liked that then you might like this one too, though this movie is not in Snow Walker's league. The acting is excellent but the story line I didn't buy as I find it hard to believe someone would set out on such a perilous journey in wintertime. However, if they did this movie does a good job of conveying the beauty and desolation they might go through.

    confused magic hallucination

Lucy (Tatiana Maslany) and Roman (Dane DeHaan) are a young couple living in a remote Canadian arctic outpost. Roman talks to a bear. They go out on a snowmobile trip. Stuff happens.

I love the two leads and they have an intriguing chemistry. At first, I figured the bear is a hallucination. It's almost an hour in and both of them see the bear but only Roman can hear him which suggests that he's not hallucinating the bear. It's magical or delusional. Then the movie gets disjointed and there is a confused flow. Then it's all a hallucination which is kind of a relief. Then I start to wonder when the hallucinating started and I'm back to confused. I want to like this for the actors but I can't really follow this movie.

Mystical exploration of the passionate love between two people damaged by abuse.

When I first streamed this movie I stopped after the second appearance of the bear which I initially found confusing and annoying. However, after a few days I realized that I still thinking about that bear, so I had go back and watch the entire movie. The director wants you to think and to feel deeply, and this is accomplished by a subtle transition from simple entertainment into what I would describe as mysticism or animistic religion. If you love film, you should see this one. You may love it or hate it but you probably won't forget it. Shot in the polar region of Canada, it provides profound insight into the character and behavior of the people who live in such an isolated and hostile environment. Some are born there but others choose to live there, and that difference is at the heart of the story.

    Waste

This movie is so boring. One couple with childish problems trying to find out their souls. With some animal language through the movie; the guy talks to the polar bear. Someone always chase the girl... I mean this is so meaningless movie. Don't spend time watching it!..........................(Out of words)

    Too artistic for me

This film tells the story of two lovers in an arctic town in Canada, whose lives are interrupted by apparently positive life changes, hideous past trauma and the appearance of a polar bear.

"Two Lovers and a Bear" shows a glimpse of what life could be like in a northern town that is permanently surrounded by ice and snow. The scene where the policeman visits Dane DeHaan, and then request unconventional backup through the radio is very funny. Perhaps you can really do that in a small town, but I cannot imagine this could happen in a big city without staff being held accountable for and someone getting fired.

The following scene that strikes a chord with me is the very last scene. I feel sorry for them, but yet they chose such a path of action perhaps out of foolhardiness. To sum up, the film is pretty uneventful but beautiful.

    • Trivia
The production ran into a problem with the streetlights of Iqaluit and Apex during filming in Nunavut. The streetlights in these locations are sodium-based and cast an unusual orange-green hue, especially when captured on camera. The production asked the Qulliq Energy Corporation of Nunavut for permission to turn off 50 lights for filming, but was told it would cost at least $22,500 for turning off just 15 lights and would cost much more to turn off the full 50 lights, something the production had not expected and therefore had not allocated any of their production budget for. This led the production to many discussions over several months with the Iqaluit City Council for assistance in turning off the lights. This involved manually disconnecting each lamppost.

Lucy: You think we're like the caribou who cross the river even if they know they're gonna drown? We keep following people and things. And we know it's gonna kill us someday, but we keep doing it.

Roman: I don't know. Maybe it's a good thing, you know? You live your life, and you're not afraid to die. You do what you have to do, because most of the time it works out the way it's supposed to, you know? Then you don't lose your ground. You don't lose your ground. You cross the river, and you grow up, and you live free and proud, 'cause you crossed the river, even if you were scared. You crossed the river inside. You walked across your fear, because *that's* the biggest river to cross. You dive in, and the water's warm. And It feels good. And the people you love are following you, and you follow the people you love. And maybe, one day, you won't make it, but that's OK, 'cause that's how it is. Nobody knows when the water's gonna get too high. You just try and hope for the best. You just don't give up. That's what's important.
