In Their Shoes

This documentary might have been interesting if the producers would have been willing to do some work. Either have some more footage. Or make the film shorter. But it is more fluff. And it is faulted by either the ignorance of the people with whom the director talks or the ignorance of the people who did the translation.

From the beginning you have meaningful exchanges like "How old is this factory?" "It's from 1895" "And you have moved with the partition" "Yes". So the factory is not that old. But who cares? Also it is about the shoe makers. But it has enough lyrical moments in some other places. Well, this is a lost opportunity.

And I can't help but notice the need to preach the nationalism is at times stronger than the story itself. The story is about some shoe makers. Which mostly aren't shoe makers any more. So already the documentary is missing its own goal. But wait. Back in the 14th century the city was the capital of an empire. Oh, so that is why the alleged shoe makers are just simple re-sellers of shoes! And there is a Mosque. Is Allah the one who manufactures the shoes the alleged shoe makers sell?
