The straightforward format and grown up level of discussion probably reveal more about what's really going on in the world of local politics than a thousand more aggressive interviews ever would. The host, Frank le Duc, really knows his subject. He brings out the best in most of his interviewees, giving them space to talk while challenging and probing to coax out telling details. So far the tone seems to have been sympathetic, respectful and self-deprecating with appropriate glimpses of humour even when the subject matter is dry. It's not obsequious. It's not patronising. And it's not far off the mark for much of the time. With politicians, health chiefs and local experts putting themselves up for scrutiny, The Vote is a welcome addition to local democracy, proper current affairs reporting and entertaining television. Long may it continue.
