Pendekar Tongkat Emas is an Indonesian movie? I did not realize the movie is will be this good, it was beyond my expectation. I thought the movie was made in Hollywood.
The actions scenes are the main highlight of the movie, the camera work on these scenes are very commendable. Even the fights are conducted with simple sticks or canes but there was no sequence breaks or oddity.
Acting was pretty decent, story line was smooth there was no illogical twist or turns. The movie is a typical revenge story, there is no originality there. If the story was something new then I would have given better rating.
End Remark: This a nice action movie and recommended for the action lovers. Hope that you will enjoy the film.

Story is well scripted, if a bit usual for marshal arts movies :)
Many of the characters are strong women, which felt very good. Story is quite sad at times.
The fighting scenes are mostly with staffs with some hand to hand mixed in, all of it quite good and well choreographed in my opinion.
Acting is well enough most of the time, some sudden time shifts could have been handled better I think, but thats the directors prerogative :)
I saw it in original language with subtitles and was pleasantly surprised when I heard it was Indonesian.

This is one of Indonesian action film that I can enjoy beside The Raid II Berandal. But not like The Raid, the story a bit slow. I think for this kind of film it's necessary.
The action scenes suprisingly has good choreography and camera work, even if almost all actors and actresses aren't from martial artist background (except the kid I guess, that kid definitely a martial artist, he is that good).
Acting is believable and can give you real understanding about what the story is. This film is enjoyable enough to watch.

I'm an Indonesian. Thanks for everyone that made this movie
The good thing : + Panorama/scenery , it's great FYI it's in Sumba. Nusa Tenggara Timur. Indonesia + Acting was Good + Choreography good + Unique theme for Indonesian Movie
The bad thing

The bad thing
- too many unnecessary things, that waste the time. Its a great view there in Sumba, but please I dont wanna spend my time just to watch it. I want to see a movie with great story not documenter movie.
- - Bad Plot, its also wasting time, some story really2 no need to have long duration in the movie.
- Sometimes, the scene looks confusing. i.e the last battle scene, They fight in the battle arena right? from the battle arena with full of people, the warrior change place without a second to a house in nobody know where and no body there.
I realized that title my review is surprising because I rated it just above average at a 6. This was pretty good movie that I originally rated a 7 but I updated to 6 because I realized I was grading on a curve. It just wasn't on par with movies I rated as a 7. That being said for a lower budget modern martial art film it's a 8. Shot beautifully I appreciated little surprises in the plot. Nothing earth shattering plot twist but a good logical creative effort was made. That is more than what you get from a lot of Hollywood based big budget movies relying on familiarity with the lore and characters to sell the movie. Also the acting was surprisingly good. The actor that played the bald little brother had no experience I could reference by researching him on the internet. In spite of that he did a good job and the connect the audience makes with him provides a needed emotional punch at a key point in the movie (And he might of been the weakest actor among the entire cast). I highly recommend this movie if you are martial arts movies that rely on the story more than the artistically stunning simulated dance/violence.
