Eze Olzanski’s Buenos Aires-based Eo Media has confirmed the Jan. 27 A&e Latin America debut for Argentine-Brazil series “Sumergidos” as it descends on Content Americas.

This follows a raft of various new movie deals that the production and distribution company sealed at Mip Cancun with the likes of Paramount, NBC Universal, Globo and Mvs. It also closed free TV pacts in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Mexico, Brazil and Uruguay as well as inflight deals for several movies in its slate at the Mexico event.

“Sumergidos”is one of the latest additions to A&e’s catalog of crime drama series alongside titles led by “Narcos,” “Narcos: Mexico,” “El Chapo,” “Rosario Tijeras,” “El Patrón del Mal” and “Sobreviviendo a Escobar: Alias JJ.”

A familiar face is joining the cast of Night Court Season 3. Wendie Malick, who recurred in the first two seasons, has been upgraded to a series regular for the upcoming third season of the NBC sitcom, which is set to premiere on NBC on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 8:30 p.m. Et/Pt.

Per Deadline, Malick will be reprising her role from the first two seasons as Julianne Walters, the new prosecutor for the night shift at the Manhattan Criminal Court. She is described as "a reformed convict" who is "a sophisticated, savvy woman and accomplished attorney who also knows how to make a shank out of a spoon." She is also the former love interest of Dan Fielding (John Larroquette). Malick's casting comes after it was revealed back in May 2024 that India de Beaufort had departed the series after two seasons and would not be returning as assistant district attorney/prosecutor Olivia Moore.

Exclusive: How To Get Away With Murder alumna Aja Naomi King is returning to broadcast as a lead opposite Melissa Fumero, AnnaSophia Robb and Ben Rappaport in Grosse Pointe Garden Society, NBC‘s drama pilot from Jenna Bans, Bill Krebs and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The drama follows four members of a suburban garden club — Birdie (Fumero), Alice (Robb), Brett (Rappaport) and Catherine (King) — all from different walks of life, who get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.

King’s Catherine is an unhappily married mother of two younger children, a realtor and active member of the Garden Society who works off some of her loneliness with a very juicy secret.

The pilot’s series regular cast also includes Matthew Davis and Alexander Hodge.

Maggie Kiley is directing the pilot, which she is executive producing with Bans via her Minnesota Logging Co.

Michael Shannon has done his fair share of high-budget films, like Man of Steel, but the actor has not shied away from doing smaller projects either. However, working on a particular project allowed the actor to meet one of the industry greats, something he likened to being a ‘dream’.

A Little White Lie is a cerebral literary thriller film, revolving around Shannon’s character, who is a down-on-his-luck handyman who gets mistaken for a celebrity writer. The film had a box office run of only $22,482 (via Box Office Mojo), but that does not mean the cast was not stuffed with talented artists of the industry, one that Shannon couldn’t believe he was working with: M. Emmet Walsh.

What happened to Sloan on Days of our Lives? That’s a question on Day’s fans’ minds after the hit Peacock soap did a switcheroo with the actress playing Sloan.

Jessica Serfaty has played legal eagle and troublemaker Sloan Peterson since the character hit Salem in 2022.

However, today’s Days of our Lives episode pulled a fast one on fans with a new actress in the role.

The only information given to viewers was a voiceover announcing that Natasha Hall is now playing the character.

Then it was business as usual, with Sloan now taking over Tate’s (Jamie Martin Mann) case because of Theresa (Emily O’Brien) and her new brilliant idea to help her son.

Exclusive: LA-based financier CaliWood Pictures has invested in Nadine de Barros’ international sales firm Fortitude ahead of the EFM market in Berlin.

The terms of the investment were not disclosed but we understand de Barros will maintain control over company direction. The backing is designed to grow Fortitude’s production and finance capabilities and provide opportunities for both outfits.

Oscar nominee Kate Hudson (Almost Famous) is attached to star in and executive produce Mindy Kaling’s untitled comedy series set up at Netflix. Kaling is writing and executive producing the 10-episode season along with Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project) and David Stassen (History of the World).

Stassen is serving as showrunner. Additional executive producers include Howard Klein (3 Arts Entertainment), Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis.

They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.

King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.

The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.

Come on, admit it. You’ve told a tiny nontruth before in order to boost yourself up. It’s likely harmless and not something that anyone would even notice. Unless, of course, you are pretending to be somebody you most definitely are not. That’s the premise that binds together A Little White Lie, a lovable literary dramedy about an unassuming man’s reluctant decision to claim to be a famously reclusive author. Did somebody say identity crisis?...

There’s nothing little about the whopper at the heart of “A Little White Lie,” a comic drama about fame and impostor syndrome. The movie’s central conceit — pretending to be a renowned author, a janitor accepts an invitation to visit a liberal arts college — is rife with potential. But writer-director Michael Maren (whose 2014 debut “A Short History of Decay” also featured an author protagonist) sticks to the obvious, ignoring potential themes of blind celebrity worship and oblivious academia that would have added some satirical edge to this genial but dull movie.

Jeff Nichols‘ motorcycle drama will have to order more club member jackets because of Micheal Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, and Damon Herriman. All three actors are joining the cast, which already includes Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy. Nichols is directing the movie, based on a fictional story inspired by the photography of Danny Lyon and his 1967 book “The Bikeriders.”

On the production side, Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones are producing through Tri-State. Fred Berger will executive produce. According to Deadline, The Bikeriders is an original story set in the 1960s following the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club. In the film written by Derek Steiner, a lone employee at a remote storage facility (Fuhrman) discovers an unconscious man locked inside Unit 234, chained to a gurney and missing a kidney. She must then fight to survive a ruthless gang, dead set on retrieving their precious cargo…at any cost.

Exclusive: Reid Miller (Joe Bell), Jonathan Silverman (Good Girls), Marguerite Moreau (Wet Hot American Summer) and Chris Mulkey (Twin Peaks) have signed on to star in the indie Feeling Randy, marking the solo directorial debut of veteran cinematographer Dean Lent.

The film inspired by Lent’s own youth follows Randy (Miller), who amid family turmoil, heads off with his high school buds on a road trip to uncover their emerging sexuality in 1970s California. Silverman and Moreau will play Randy’s parents, with Mulkey as his understanding teacher. Richard Riehle, Tyler Lawrence Gray, Kerrice Brooks, Shane Almagor, Blaine Kern III and O. Hibbs Wyman will round out the cast.

Lent penned the script, with Salome Breziner on board to produce under her Semblance banner. Production is underway in the Los Angeles area.

Miller is best known for starring alongside Mark Wahlberg and Connie Britton in Reinaldo Marcus Green’s drama Joe Bell for Roadside Attractions.

The delivery of names that are joining Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out’ sequel may have slowed but they are still trickling in. Kate Hudson has become the latest to join the cast.

Hudson will join the recently cast Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, and Kathryn Hahn and Leslie Odom Jr. on the cast. Expect more A-list names to trickle in over the coming days/weeks.

Plot details are being kept under wraps but it is highly likely another bunch of A-list cast will be part of the whodunnit murder mystery. Daniel Craig will return as detective Benoit Blanc. It’s unclear if any other stars from the original ensemble will be returning.

Exclusive: Management and production company Thruline Entertainment has brought in longtime CBS talent executive Karen Church as senior manager.

Most recently SVP of Comedy Casting at CBS, Church, who left the network late last year, oversaw talent on some of CBS’ signature hits of the past two decades.

Church joined CBS in 1998 as Director of Movies and Miniseries after starting her career as an independent casting director. She shepherded the casting of more than CBS 50 telefilms a year before switching to comedy series where she rose to SVP. While at the network, Church oversaw the entire runs of Everybody Loves Raymond, Two and A Half Men, King of Queens, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Mom, Mike & Molly and Life In Pieces, among many others, as well as the pilots and multiple seasons of The Neighborhood, Young Sheldon, The Unicorn and Bob Hearts Abishola.

Whoopi Goldberg has signed on to star in Shriver, joining Toni Collette and Thomas Haden Church in the comedy about mistaken identity. Giancarlo Esposito (Okja, Breaking Bad, Maze Runner: The Death Cure) has also been added the cast.

Content Media has acquired sales rights to the ensemble-led comedy and will be introducing the project to buyers for the first time in Cannes. Additional cast are expected to join the project in the coming weeks.

Whoopi Goldberg and Giancarlo Esposito have joined previously announced Toni Collette and Thomas Haden Church on the comedy Shriver.

Content will introduce the project to international buyers on the Croisette next week. The project is in pre-production and will shoot later in the year.

Shriver centres on a loner who gets mistaken for a famous reclusive author and assumes the writer’s identity.

The loner attends a conference in honour of the writer while masquerading as the star of the show, and falls for an English professor as the real scribe turns up.

Michael Maren directs from a screenplay he adapted from the novel of the same name by Chris Belden.

Thruline’s Josh Kesselman and Alfred Sapse are producing.
