Luke Collins' ability strongly resembles that of Ted Sprague; "the exploding man" from season 1 of the original series. While Ted was able to produce and control Nuclear energy, Luke seems to be able to harness (not produce) and control solar energy in the same way.

Goofs
When the nurse is talking to Tommy about his mom's blood transfusion she says that the hospital has "no O- negative blood on supply." O- negative blood is universal donor. Short of a major crisis or mass casualty disaster, hospitals are always stocked with O-negative blood.
