Every Harry Potter Movie, Ranked by Its Soundtrack
Image
The experience of watching movies is undoubtedly enhanced when they have a good musical score. Take Steven Spielberg’s E.T., for example—we can’t imagine the movie without John Williams’ epic flying theme. The same goes for the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels. Without music, even the most magical scenes would have felt empty.

But all thanks to composers like John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and Alexandre Desplat, Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter movies became instantly recognizable for their incredible soundtracks. Especially Williams’ Hedwig’s Theme, which became synonymous with the magical franchise.

At least for me, whenever I hear those scores, I don’t...

Modern Family Star, 49, Reflects On The "Loudest" Criticism He Received
Image
Jesse Tyler Ferguson has opened up about the criticism he received for his performance on Modern Family. Throughout all 11 seasons of Modern Family, the 49-year-old actor played Mitchell Pritchett, a Type-a environmental lawyer married to the theatrical Cam (Eric Stonestreet).

However, the depiction of Ferguson's character wasn't without its controversy, as the actor recently revealed on his podcast, Dinner's On Me. Speaking to Russell Tovey, Ferguson, who is gay himself, said that much of the backlash surrounding his Modern Family performance came from the gay community.

The Mitch actor knew to expect criticism, given how popular Modern Family was and how many viewers it reached. He expressed that the negative feelings which some LGBTQ+ viewers felt towards him and his character were because he "didn't represent their idea of... what a gay man was." See Ferguson's comment below:

Ferguson: One of the pressures I've always felt, specifically after being...

The Kiss Review: When Kindness Becomes a Cage
Image
Some stories feel less like they are told and more like they are constructed, each piece a gear in a machine designed to create a specific emotional state. Bille August’s The Kiss is just such a machine, a meticulously crafted narrative device that explores the crushing weight of good intentions. Set in Denmark on the precipice of the First World War, it immediately immerses us in an era of rigid social hierarchies and a brittle, all-consuming code of honor.

This is the world that has shaped our protagonist, Anton Abilgaard, a young cavalry officer whose life has a singular objective: to cleanse his family’s sullied name through an impeccable military career. He is a man on a mission, and his every action is calibrated for advancement and the restoration of dignity.

His quest for honor leads him to perform a simple act of roadside assistance for a nobleman,...

Director Bille August
Impatience of the heart by Anne-Katrin Titze
Director Bille August
The Kiss director Bille August with Anne-Katrin Titze: “I just finished a big eight-hour series, The Count of Monte Cristo.”

Bille August’s The Kiss (Kysset), based on the 1938 Stefan Zweig novel Beware Of Pity, transports us to 1914, when the Great War was a looming threat and not yet a reality. Anton (Esben Smed), a young man eager to re-establish his family honour, wants to join the cavalry and become an officer in the Danish army. During the revealing opening scene, he and his mother (Lone Rødbroe) visit a rich aunt (Lane Lind) in an attempt to convince her to provide the necessary means for Anton to buy a horse and all that goes with a fine military career. Already many of the themes that will haunt him and us are established - his good heart plagued by insecurities, family shame, pride, and guilt.

Baron Løvenskjold (Lars Mikkelsen) introducing his...

Quick LinksWhere and When to Watch The Rookie Season 7, Episode 12, 'April Fools'What to Expect from the Rest of The Rookie Season 7

The following contains very light spoilers for The Rookiethrough Season 7, Episode 11, "Speed," which debuted Tuesday, March 25, 2025 on ABC and streams on Hulu.

While it began as a street-level series about the oldest new officer in the Los Angeles Police Department, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), The Rookie shifted that premise in Season 5. Not only was Nolan no longer a rookie himself, he became a training officer so the titular "boot" would be at his side. Previously, this was Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez), but in Season 7, Episode 12, "April Fools," Nolan's new trainee is hilariously awful. In fact, there may be reason to believe it's all a joke.

The Rookie has proven its mettle in the pantheon of procedurals on network television. At first, it was the show's focus on patrol-level officers...

‘Having no real Pda was a great call then’: Sofia Vergara and Ed O’Neill Almost Never Kissed in ‘Modern Family’ and That Was Kinda Genius
Image
Modern Family is known for pushing boundaries and redefining family relationships on television, but one of its most impactful choices was how it handled public displays of affection. While the show highlighted various types of relationships, from affectionate Claire and Phil to quirky and reserved Jay and Gloria, to same-sex couple Cam and Mitch— the show’s portrayal of physical affection was quite striking.

The creators cleverly downplayed the Pda between not only Jay and Gloria but also Cam and Mitch. The show’s decision to keep the physical affection minimal in comparison to the straight couple was both a strategic and thoughtful move, especially for its time.

Quick LinksWhen to Watch The Rookie, Season 7, Episode 11, 'Speed'What to Expect from the Rest of The Rookie Season 7

The Rookiehas become something more than a standard police procedural, in which characters train to become police officers before getting promoted to the rank of detective. This is the formula of many police procedurals, but The Rookie stands out because it focuses more on the beat cop experience.

Producers have said that The Rookie Season 7 represents a "pivot" back to the original premise of the series, with new rookies in the cast. The addition of two new training officers continues to deliver the grounded stories that audiences love, along with the character dramas and romances that have made The Rookie a television mainstay.

In recent seasons, The Rookiestarted telling bigger stories, often taking a case from arrest all the way to court. While this is how most police procedurals tackle their weekly cases, what made the show stand out was its focus on patrol officers. The producers said that Season 7 represents a "pivot" back to the original idea for the show.

The addition of two new training officers -- Deric Augustine as Miles Penn and Patrick Keleher as Seth Ridely -- helps the series get back to the grounded storytelling that made it a hit. While there are episodes that introduce a big spectacle for TV, most of the time the characters and their cases have a narrow personal focus.

‘The Rookie’ Aftershow: Nathan Fillion on Nolan’s Emotional Confession to Harper (Video)
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie Season 7 Episode 9 “The Kiss.”] Talk about being stuck between a cop and a hard place! The Rookie‘s John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) found himself in a no-win situation this week as the LAPD dealt with the fallout from last week’s drive-by shooting that left Harper’s husband James (Arjay Smith) and community-center volunteer Kylie (Maria Zhang) clinging to life. With the cops scrambling to find the shooter — a local gang member named Connor (Levi Meaden) — Nolan was forced to reveal that he’d spotted James and Kylie in a clinch shortly before the crime, despite the fact that the information would have a two-fold impact: First, it meant telling his former T.O. and beloved colleague an awful truth about her marriage, and secondly, it could cast serious suspicion onto the devastated Nyla (the tremendous Mekia Cox), who had arrested Connor 18 months earlier. Had she perhaps hired ...

The Rookie season 7 episode 9 preview: "The Kiss"
Image
Tuesday, March 11 will be a big event for Celina, as she takes on her new solo assignment on The Rookie, season 7, episode 9, "The Kiss." She completed her rookie training and is approaching her next career chapter. It's not going to go smoothly, but with help from a colleague, Celina might succeed. I surely hope so, because every officer deserves to prove themselves on the force and achieve.

On Tuesday, March 4, we didn't get a new episode, as the presidential speech was airing, and several shows, not just The Rookie, took the night off. It was the first time during the season that the police drama skipped an episode. As we're halfway through the season, with "The Kiss," we're hoping that there won't be any more breaks.

In The Rookie season 7, episode 8, "Wildfire," the team fought against raging flames while trying to track down a dangerous murderer. Also, Lucy and Tim...

Image
With one problem out of the way, The Rookie throws a fresh one at Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox). She finally caught her serial killer, Liam Glasser (Seth Gamble), in Episode 8, "Wildfire," but another problem was developing elsewhere. Later, a driveby shooting left James' life at risk, and in The Rookie Season 7, Episode 9, "The Kiss," Nyla's life comes tumbling down. Salt is added to injury when she learns of the kiss, according to a sneak peek of the March 11 episode. Below is the official logline.
