Heading towards next month’s Academy Awards, Sean Baker’s Anora has been on a complete rebound, taking over awards season via the WGA, DGA and PGA. Now, it has added the Independent Spirit Awards to that list, taking home three at yesterday’s ceremony: Best Feature, Best Director for Baker and Best Lead Performance for Mikey Madison. Going in, it co-led the nominees with five, tying with I Saw the TV Glow.

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu claimed the top spot at the UK box office this week, beating out Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 with £5,246,910 across its five-day opening weekend. In an even more family-unfriendly move, we’re pretty confidently saying that makes it the first UK number one to feature a full-frontal shot of an undead penis. That’s an accolade Eggers and co can really be proud of.

But that’s not the only record broken by the historical auteur’s 19th-century passion project. Per Deadline, Skarsgård and Montgomery will star in Dead Man's Wire, a hostage thriller directed by Van Sant. Focus Features has released the new trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu movie, which will open in theaters on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.

The horror film marks Focus Features’ ongoing collaboration with Eggers following the 2022 release of the Viking epic The Northman. The film also reunites Eggers with veteran producer Chris Columbus, who is credited as executive producer on The Witch and The Lighthouse.

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.

Eggers wrote and directed the film, which stars Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe. The MPA has not yet rated the film.

Eggers also serves as a producer alongside Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, Jeff Robinov, and John Graham. Focus is distributing the Nosferatu movie in the U.S., and Universal Pictures International is handling international distribution.

Form trumps function in Alfonso Cuaron’s new, star-studded limited series Disclaimer, a somewhat too obvious piece of narrative sleight of hand, in which the mechanics of the narrative are captivating and the narrative itself is largely perfunctory.

Of course, if you accept that the narrative of this adaptation of Renée Knight’s novel is entirely about how the mechanics of narrativizing can get in the way of the truth … well, the truth is that Disclaimer, driven by tricky and playful lead performances from Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, may be one of those shows that’s more fascinating to talk circles around than to actually watch. This is already what critics are going to have to do in order to review without spoiling anything.

According to Evan Rachel Wood, one of the scenes in the 2007 Beatles themed musical Across the Universe is more based in reality than one might assume. While presenting a special Cinespia screening of the film at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Wood shared a behind-the-scenes story from the set.

Notably, Wood did not present the film in person but instead recorded a video because she is “recovering from a knee injury and not going anywhere.”

“They told me to share a funny story or moment from when we were on set,” Wood said. “Well, I’ll just say this … during the ‘I Am the Walrus’ scene, any moment you see myself and Jim Sturgess, we are actually tripping.”

Wood continued, indicating that the stars had taken real drugs while shooting parts of the hallucinogenic sequence.
