It seems as though this series is more a cash grab and using the characters and concept because of its two successful movies. It wouldn't be a good idea even calling this a prequel as it has absolutely no ties with the film. Just the name, town and characters. The concept of the show could've been good if it wasn't apart of the franchise as it not only makes no sense, but wastes its potential by forcing the franchise into such a series.
Really enjoyed the first film on first watch and still do. The second film had a lot of good things and was entertaining, despite some flaws. Also was raised on Cartoon Network as a child and it was great for many years until shows like 'Johnny Test' started getting made. There have still been good shows made post-2008, such as 'Over the Garden Wall', 'Young Justice', 'Steven Universe' and Seasons 1-3 'Rick and Morty', but on the whole Cartoon Network has been nowhere near as good as it was.
'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' is a good example of why. It is not quite one of the nadirs of Cartoon Network, being not as bad as 'Johnny Test', 'Uncle Grandpa' and 'Angela Anaconda', but it really is not a good show at all. Compared to the films, it couldn't be more of a polar opposite in quality and does not do them justice in any way. 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' also does not stand well on its own two feet too, not everything is a wreck but very little is done right and at the end of the day the point of it can be questioned.
The best thing about it is the animation, which actually does have some nice background detail and some nice colour.
Quite a lot of the colours are however somewhat flat, transitions are not seamless and the character designs can be blocky. The animation is far from awful, but there is nothing here and that is wow worthy or imaginative. The voice acting is rather generic, didn't get the sense that the voice actors' hearts were in it, hence why the characters felt so vanilla. While Steve and Tim are sort of recognisable, the characters come over as very dulled down in personality and have lost what made them click so well before.
Furthermore, there is nothing creative or smart about the writing, which is not funny or has any soul or emotion and any attempts at humour are more childish and juvenile than witty and sharp. The storylines lack energy, are thin and are not just predictable and have no imagination but the show really ran out of ideas in the later episodes and had a repetitive feel. The music is not very well placed and is not that infectious either, not much to be excited by.
In summary, very bad and pointless. 2/10.

It's common today to see Hollywood remake movies and TV shows be remade as well. One of those remade shows was Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs, a show based on the 2009 film, which I praised in the past. The show has all the familiar characters from the films, Flint, Sam, Steve, and so on. Where the show starts to fall apart though is that the humor in this show barely has any humor in it and most of the jokes in this show are poorly done or are bad puns. The artwork and animation while not terrible, could have been done so much better, it can get choppy from time to time, and the main color this show has is grey, I know this is a ghost town, but why is 90% of the show in grey? It makes it look dead. The characters are barely funny and the humor they actually provide that is funny is very rare and its so boring. The only characters who stayed the same were Steve and Tim. There was plenty of potential for this show, but C.W.AC.O.M. proves that like most spin-offs, the original is way better. Go watch the original films, It's WAY better than this junk. If you do see this show on TV, make like Flint's food raining invention and fly away from this terrible remake of a classic.
I love the original Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie. Hell, I also think the sequel is as good as the original! But this... is far from good, but still acceptable. The animation is below average, but the colour palette is great. The writing needs some improvement, and I understand that it's trying to find its' identity. The characters... are flanderized. And it doesn't follow to the continuity. Teen Titans Go is completely mindnumbingly vapid. But Cloudy's cartoon series and My Knight and Me are still newbies and trying to find a way to create a good story.
I know this show isn't as good as the movies but when is that ever the case? Movies have budgets way, way higher than TV shows do, and they have star talent for voices, and so on. Also I think this show is meant for much younger kids who don't have the same demands for good story and so on. This show is fine for little kids and we adults don't have to watch it (it like many other shows can get annoying with the silliness and over the top sounds and so on).
