It only exists to remind us that the original is cool

It's nice to see a sequel years later of one of my favorite movies ever, but is it really necessary?

It tries so hard to mimick everything from the original that it gets old REALLY quick.

Unlike sequels to other older movies like Star Wars, Halloween or even Hocus Pocus that the new characters are so boring that you just don't care what happens to them, the new ones are OK. Not good, just ok. Except Danica, she's horrible. And I liked that they weren't just copies of the original cast, they FEEL like a new group.

The killer reveal was dumb and the last scene is just another "yeah girl power" moment that no one asked for.

Honestly, I like going out yesterday to watch it, but I won't be seeing this one again. The original I've seen about 20 times and it never gets old.

This was pure comedy...

This movie spits on the original in the most crude way possible. This was bad through and through.

Dull actors who can't deliver their lines believably. Bad special effects. Boring all the way through, predictable from the start.

The script was laughably awful.

This was more comedy than horror, pure comedy.

I had fun

Dunno what the negative reviews are on about. I Know What You Did Last Summer was always seen as a lesser version of Scream, released one year later. I grew up in the height of these teen slashers and I enjoyed them (also thinking of Urban Legend here). I knew they weren't great quality, and not critically acclaimed but I enjoyed them. They're like murder mysteries where you actually get to see the murders and have a go at guessing whodunnit.

This new revival of IKWYDLS is almost exactly like watching the original when I was only 10, as a 37 year old. It is just plain silly fun with some glaring plot holes and daft decisions all round. I did guess who the culprit was early on but that didn't take away from the fun of being teased with the alternative motives. And we got to see some legendary 90s icons again which hits the nostalgia bell that the film knowingly mocks when Julie states "nostalgia is overrated". It even felt like the 90s in how little CGI and cinematography is used. It's fairly straightforwardly shot with one scene being an exception.

This film isn't falling down in its silliness, it is self aware - it knows it isn't contributing to a quality film legacy (the original only has 5.8 on here, guys) and everyone should accept that it's never going to be oscar worthy. It's a daft over the top teen slasher and it delivers exactly what it says on the tin.

It's a pretty good slasher.

A group of friends is out having fun. We've all seen the original, so you know the plot.

Better than I expected, the slasher genre is a personal favourite, but it seems almost dead and buried. After the atrocious TV series, I didn't come in expecting great things; I found myself pleasantly surprised.

It's a film that people new to the franchise can enjoy, plus it's a film that age-old fans, who were around to see the first one back in the '90s, can reminisce about and get some enjoyment out of.

It's a tried-and-tested formula that works, and for the most part, it worked here; definitely some modern twists, but somehow it felt kind of old school. I loved all the nods to the past and some of the jokes. The killer's appearance still looks great too.

I purposely avoided trailers and notes, so I was pleasantly surprised by who popped up and how they were involved.

Some of the new faces did a good job, but I thought the older faces stole the show; maybe it was a sense of nostalgia.

Hopefully we'll get another film as good, new slashers are few and far between. I definitely think they are aiming to recreate the success of the Scream franchise.

Good job.

7/10.

If you liked the original....

Run. Run far away. Run far away and never return. You know, you really begin to understand and appreciate what a great writer Kevin Williamson is when all these new directors and writers try to continue his stories and fall flat on their face. This movie is trash. What the director has done is basically just spitting in the face of the fans that have loved these characters for almost 30 years. I rolled my eyes and went along with it for almost 90 minutes and then the train derailed. I don't know that I've ever witnessed a more jarring and sudden character assassination in my 40 years of enjoying movies.

Decent reboot

The 2025 revival of I Know What You Did Last Summer delivers exactly what long-suffering fans of the franchise have been waiting for - a true return to form that balances nostalgia, tension, and fresh energy. While technically the fourth installment, it serves more as the rightful third chapter, leaving behind the missteps of the previous supernatural detour and recapturing the grounded psychological terror that made the original films so iconic. This time, the story is tighter, the tone is sharper, and the balance between legacy and reinvention feels purposeful.

Jennifer Love Hewitt's return as Julie James immediately gives the film emotional gravity. Though her screen time is limited, her presence permeates every scene, echoing the trauma and resilience that made her one of horror's most enduring final girls. Freddie Prinze Jr. Also reprises his role as Ray Bronson, bringing a quiet maturity to the character. His evolution into the franchise's "Dewey Riley" - scarred but steadfast - works perfectly in grounding the film's new generation of victims and survivors. Both actors bridge the gap between the past and present effortlessly, reminding audiences why these characters mattered in the first place.

The new ensemble injects youthful chemistry and believable camaraderie. Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon form a compelling group whose dynamics echo the tension and mistakes of the original crew while establishing their own distinct personalities. Each performance feels calibrated for the genre - Cline's charisma, Wonders' intensity, and Hauer-King's subtle vulnerability all elevate the tension. This new cast doesn't feel like stand-ins; they feel like extensions of the legacy.

Directorially, the film impresses by knowing exactly what kind of story it's telling. It toys with audience expectations, layering in red herrings that actually pay off rather than feel cheap. The pacing is deliberate, building suspense without overstaying its welcome. The killer's identity, once revealed, is both shocking and narratively satisfying - a rare feat in modern slasher revivals. The script finds smart, meaningful ways to honor the series' mythology, weaving in references to Sarah Michelle Gellar's Helen Shivers through visual tributes like photographs, memorials, and even online fan pages. Barry Cox is also cleverly acknowledged, adding a wink of continuity without forcing exposition.

Visually, the film's atmosphere returns to the coastal eeriness of the original, with shadow-soaked docks, fog-drenched streets, and the familiar flash of that chilling hook glinting in the dark. The cinematography feels cinematic again, pulling away from the overly polished sheen of recent horror attempts and embracing something grittier and more tactile. The score, filled with tension-building strings and subtle callbacks to the 1997 film, reinforces that sense of legacy and dread.

Then there's the mid-credit scene - a moment that will have fans grinning from ear to ear. It's campy, self-aware, and just the right amount of absurd. It's also an unmistakable promise that this franchise isn't finished. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) might not redefine the genre, but it confidently reminds audiences why they fell in love with this story to begin with. It's a thrilling, nostalgic, and surprisingly heartfelt revival that proves there's still life - and plenty of hooks - left in this franchise.

"This experience was 0 out of 10. No stars."

That's an actual quote from the movie. It was the only comedic attempt that made me laugh, but only because it unintentionally made a meta comment about itself. The rest of the jokes are awful.

But we're not really here for the laughs. How about the slasher elements? There was one cool kill that made me grimace. The rest are nothings. NOTHINGS. They are so mild an uninventive. Half of them aren't even shown. Why was this movie rated R? They don't take advantage of the lack of limitations.

But by far the worst part is how unbelievably stupid it is. This is not hyperbole: it's one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. The entire story is idiotic AND the characters reach never-before-seen levels of moronicity (didn't even know that's a word).

I know asinine character decisions are nothing new in slashers. But this takes it to another level. Everything they do is the worst thing they can do. They stand and watch, waiting to be killed. And they could do more if the movie didn't make up excuses for characters repeatedly not having a cell phone.

This movie is absolute garbage. I had to hold back my laughter several times. And at one point I actually squirmed in my seat because there was no way it could be so dumb.

Acting is terrible

The first 2 minutes are as good as it gets - the inner monologue of a 25 point IQ who chose UofMich - enough said - she should be offed just for that. Terrible lighting, terrible acting, script sucks - you were hoping they all died - but it took 31 minutes for the first dead body. You couldn't tell any of the characters apart and the location/set up was so ridiculous. Seriously - THIS is your idea of a reboot of a great movie?

Slasher requel that gets a few things right...

The original 1997 movie was a modest hit back in day, but not because it was some amazing slasher ... but a culmination of many other things at that time. It had a hot cast, a few memorable set pieces and the plot felt like a Scooby Doo episode ... This requel tries to do exactly the same thing, and never takes itself seriously.... It's simply a fun no-brainer slasher flick, and sometimes that can be entertaining enough. So when you do get to the preposterous and silly reveal at the end, you can laugh along with them at how stupid it is. If the original is guilty pleasure of yours... you'll most probably enjoy this too...

I know what you did last summer

I know what you did last summer from 2025 is a remake. Madeline Klein stars in this movie and does a terrific job in her role so I give her a lot of props. The cinematography of this film was magnificent and I love the storyline keeping with the earlier version of this movie. Actually in some way I felt like this film was better than the original film. But if you like slasher movies this is a good one to watch I highly recommend it you will not be disappointed. I'm giving this a 7 out of 10 stars on Rotten Tomatoes and IMBD.

I Know What Reboot Shouldn't Have Been Made This Summer

This reboot is what happens when you dig up a franchise, forget why it worked in the first place, and hand it over to people who think "twist" just means "make no sense." The script is pure chaos - scenes stumble into each other with no logic, characters talk like teenagers but look like they have mortgages, and the ending feels like it wandered in from a completely different movie.

Let's talk about that ending, actually, because apparently the filmmakers didn't. It has zero connection to the title. I kept waiting for something clever or satisfying, but all I got was a confused shrug in cinematic form.

The plot twists? Hilariously bad. One after another, they trip over themselves trying to be edgy. It's like someone dared the writers to come up with the most ridiculous turns possible and then forgot to check if they actually fit into the story.

What's worse is that they play it all completely straight, as if they're making a dark, serious thriller. Newsflash: when your horror movie starts feeling like unintentional parody, it's time to change genres. Honestly, they should've just embraced the mess and gone full-on horror comedy. At least then we'd be laughing with them instead of at them.

Final word? Watch it if you're in the mood for a train wreck with delusions of depth. Otherwise, do yourself a favor, and forget this one ever happened. You'll thank yourself this summer.

I even still know again...what you did...

Well, I am not very happy about movie, at least not after first watch, but I didn't expect a masterpiece either. Ray's and Julie's return was no surprise but they did their part fine. Was nice to see them sure, but that's about it. They should have been better the ways like Neve Campbell returned to Scream with interesting way or Jamie Lee Curtis's return to Halloween 2018. About the new cast Madelyn Cline and specially Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies bodies bodies) did fine job. The boys in movie didn't felt so good as girls. Hook man was back but not with full potential.

I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 was a good try to bring the story to new generation of horror fans.
