It's a pretty good slasher.
A group of friends is out having fun. We've all seen the original, so you know the plot.
Better than I expected, the slasher genre is a personal favourite, but it seems almost dead and buried. After the atrocious TV series, I didn't come in expecting great things; I found myself pleasantly surprised.
It's a film that people new to the franchise can enjoy, plus it's a film that age-old fans, who were around to see the first one back in the '90s, can reminisce about and get some enjoyment out of.
It's a tried-and-tested formula that works, and for the most part, it worked here; definitely some modern twists, but somehow it felt kind of old school. I loved all the nods to the past and some of the jokes. The killer's appearance still looks great too.
I purposely avoided trailers and notes, so I was pleasantly surprised by who popped up and how they were involved.
Some of the new faces did a good job, but I thought the older faces stole the show; maybe it was a sense of nostalgia.
Hopefully we'll get another film as good, new slashers are few and far between. I definitely think they are aiming to recreate the success of the Scream franchise.
Good job.
7/10.
