Any1 else sick of 1/10's being handed out like

Penny Candy at Halloween. I thought it was ok movie, nothing great or special but not terrible either. Def not deserving of a 1. I mean the Horror genre & it's cousins have put out some of the best but also the some of the worst movies ever. No way should this be given a 1 unless the rater has only seen 10 movies in lifetime & this was the worst. Otherwise any1 gonna giving out 1/10's is lazy & shouldn't be trusted. I don't care how much BS analysis they spit out bout plot holes, bad acting, or the "it's already been done". No bleep Sherlock, there are thousands of movies out every yr for the last century. U go ahead & write ova a million novels & I promise you that your not gonna be a genius who finds a way to avoid an overlapping subplot eventually let alone main plot. It's all been done by now. It's just how the screen writers, directors & actors package their story that makes it unique. But I'm tired of 1's in rating, especially in movies that are clearly average. Not like a 2-4 is a good rating but certainly isn't a 1 which should be reserved for movies u basically turn-off They so bad. Yeah we all have rights & rights to opinions, but if u give 1's out your rating privelage is provoked. U can still rate but no1 is gonna give your analysis a lick of consideration cuz it's a joke. This movie wasn't bad, it was average for production time & genre. British girls are cute & acting wasn't bad at all. People who give this a 1 prob give the movie "stitches" a 1 & that's when u know they can't be trusted. Cuz stitches is 1 badass movie & prob a 7 & so this falls about 3 pegs down

    I had fun watching it

The cast looks as real as you can get and not like actors, and honestly they did a fine job. I wasn't bored watching and I liked this low budget horror. I watch ALL low budget horror and have a lot to compare it to. This had a good guessing game to it.

    Unfinished butchering

There was quite a lot that made me want to watch 'Braxton'. It had a cool poster/cover, a somewhat intriguing if very derivative premise and as someone with a general appreciation for the genre it fits under. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there (though there are decent to good ones as well), made me though apprehensive.

'Braxton' is unfortunately on the other hand yet another film seen recently, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws present in those films are here, that did absolutely nothing for me. 'Braxton' is really terrible, with so many huge flaws, any potential that it had completely disappears in translation. There is nothing good here in 'Braxton' apart from the eerie-looking setting that is wasted by the rest of the production values, just amateurish in all aspects.

Going further on to the negatives, the story does feel over-stretched and some of it comes over as vague and under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less unsettled and never gaining momentum. All the characters are too sketchy and with cardboard thin and colourless personalities and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them, all of them coming over as incredibly irritating to the extent you don't want them alive. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates. The chemistry is bland and unfocused.

The sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions), the effects are laughable and all of the acting is lacking severely on the whole, that's actually an understatement as the worst of it is horrendous. There is no sense of horror or engagement with the awful predicament they're in, and no connecting with the character, it just reeks of indifference which makes the viewer not care less too.

Dialogue can be stilted and rambling while the pace and film drags on forever, apparent from the very start, never recovering that interest is lost fast. The ending has no build-up and just ends ridiculously. Found too many of the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense. Thrills are none, thanks to stodginess and excessive over-familiarity, and found myself never invested in the drama, which tended to be indifferently acted, interminably paced and statically directed.

A lot of 'Braxton' has really dull and going nowhere plot elements and often nonsensical and confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you shocked are far from creative or unsettling. It all feels rather tame while the identity of the killer is not surprising or memorable, but at that point one doesn't really care.

Nothing freaky or interesting with some shoddy effects, no development and too derivative, while everything is unimaginative and are more odd than scary, completely failing to show any sense of dread. There is nothing interesting or illuminating with what the film was trying to do and the drama is overwrought with no momentum and a lot of weirdness. Nothing bold, nothing creative, it's all dull, tame and with some gratuity. The direction is leaden, got the sense their heart was not in it, and the music is ill-fitting. 'Braxton' is very amateurish visually, too drearily lit and shows no care in the way it's shot, severely compromising any coherence. The editing is all over the place.

Altogether, irredeemably (apart from the setting, which was wasted so is not really a merit) terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox

    Irish love letter to horror

While it's easy to point out the flaws with the overall look or writing, the film is admirable for it's place in the untapped area of northern irish horror. The film's gimmicks and ultimate twist, while cliche, are surprising and take different routes than you'd expect.

Hearing characters speak and act like irish teenagers is a great change of pace from cheesy American slashers, making the film feel like more of a love letter to American horror movies mixed in with it's own sense of personality.

Still, a passion for horror mixed with great song choices don't take away the feeling that some characters were unrealistically written in times, especially those characters who dismiss the brutal murder of their close friends.

All and all, the film should be taken as what it is, an a tribute to 90s horror in regards to movies like Scream and I know what you did last summer, as well as choices such as twist villains, cop characters and teen rock music. So when you take it as such, the film impresses and goes beyond others in the genre that lack the soul or the sense of humour.
