The Directorial Debut Of Jack L. Warner
Dry cleaner delivery driver Monte Banks competes with William Blaisdell over the fair Florence Gilbert, first on the golf links and then at a society party.
Do I detect a falling off in quality in this one? When you're talking about short comedies, it's the gags and the execution, and while the execution is fine, the gags seem a bit old hat..... as when Banks mistakes a top hat for an opera hat. His frequent director for the Warner shorts, Gilbert Pratt, was not a particularly good director, but he appears to have been a good gag man,and one who worked well with Banks. Here, the direction is credited to Jack L. Warner, the youngest of the brothers, and one who thought himself show biz. He directed two more of the Banks shorts, and then retreated to the front office.
