The handsome ad rich marquis rescues the beautiful lady from an embarrassing situation, and then again when she tries to leave the hotel without the finds to settle her bill. Little does either of them know she is a member of a gang who intend to invade his estate and rob him. Well, she knows she's a member of a gang, but she doesn't know the other part. So when she appears on his lawn, he thinks it a romantic adventure and proposes marriage to her. But the gang threatens them both. What will she do?
It took me three viewings to pay enough attention to what was actually going on here, and the way the film makers settle everything is stupid. Nice pictures, though.

It's a small circus doing very badly. The owner and tightrope walkers are Eugen Klopfer and his daughter, Carmen Boni. The clown is Vladimir Sokolff. The others.... well, there's so little money in the till after a pouring rain that the man who came to collect the entertainment tax took it and then replaced it with a larger coin so they might have something to eat. So fraulein Boni stole a bag of oats to feed the horses. Peter Voss tracks it down to the circus with a policeman, then on seeing their straits, says forget about it. Fraulein Boni confesses, and Klopfer gets out the whip. But then Voss makes him an offer: let her come work for him. She agrees.
Well, they fall in love, and the circus moves on, as things get direr and direr. Will they survive to return? And what will happen when they do?
That is the theme of this late German silent: stay and change, or go. What do we owe to tradition and those who have come before us? Can we change and remain ourselves?
Are they talking about a dying circus or all of cinema? What happens when sound comes in and the whole structure of movies changes?

When ice forms in New York harbor on the Fourth of July, James Hound is called on to investigate.
In looking up some information on the series, I discovered it is rated PG-13. This confuses me. There's no sexuality, the violence takes place off screen, and the language is clean. Are they trying to protect children from puns? Or perhaps terrible cartoons?
