Monty Banks in Fresh Air (1921)

Review by boblipton

Fresh Air

7/10

The Malignity Of Inanimate Objects

To gain the approval of the fair Florence Gilbert's father, Jack Duffy, Monte Banks and despised rival William Blaisdell agree to hunt the fabulous and dangerous Woof in the distant wilderness of Pasadena. This involves them shooting at rabbits, and vice versa.

Monte Banks' career as a starring comic for Warner Brothers was going great guns at this point, with some inventive gags. I'm particularly taken with the sequence in which he tries to get through a gate with a step ladder, and the sequence with the rabbits looks like one from Looney Tunes. Alas, the copy I looked at was missing its end, but up until then I was having a great time.

Jack Duffy was 39 when this short was made, despite his appearance. When his career as a comic faded out in the early 1930s, he turned his hand to being a make-up artist.
