Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Swastika Mukherjee in Shibpur (2023)

Review by SoumikBanerjee1996

Shibpur

6/10

A commendable attempt!

For the past couple of decades, while every other regional industry of our nation, alongside Bollywood, has been exploring the space of Gangster dramas, the Bengali film industry seldom touched upon this genre; it has hardly scratched the surface; thus, I was just pleased to see an effort being finally made, regardless of its deficiencies.

As a well-wisher and a native audience of the industry, I would request aspiring and established filmmakers to delve more into this particular realm since this has tremendous potential and could lead them to nationwide recognition and bring back the days of glory.

Coming back to the film, it boasts an engaging, eventful narrative; not without its shortcomings, of course, but overall, it does leave more or less a positive impression, and that's mainly because of the violence displayed unapologetically and the impeccable performances given by some of the reputed veterans.

While the likes of Parambrata Chatterjee and Rajatabha Dutta did reasonably well, it's both the 'Mukherjees' (Swastika and Kharaj) who have stolen the show, especially the latter.

Simply sensational.
