I heartily enjoyed Bing Crosby and the Sounds of Christmas
Just watched this on YouTube, another of Bing's Christmas specials with his second family or as he calls it "Casa Crosby". The last one I saw of him with his family was a "Hollywood Palace" ep from 1968, so obviously in this one his offspring of Harry, Nathaniel, and Mary Frances (as she was ID'd at the time) are a little grown from then. Oh course, Bing's wife Kathryn is there as well and they all provide good voices accompanying Bing. Also guesting are fellow singers Robert Goulet and Mary Costa and a choir at various points in the show. In one musical sketch, Crosby plays a bum trying to get to jail because of the three square meals he gets and Goulet plays a cop and a few other characters, it's as charming as can be. In a later one, the two man and Ms. Costa play a vaudeville act in which they all dress in Santa suits. Then everyone gathers to play various Christmas songs before Bing does his "White Christmas" but not before his wife and Goulet asks about who's going to sing it with Bing putting them down at all times! But, at the end, his family, Goulet, and Ms. Costa sing background in the middle of the performance. One more thing, this was recorded without an audience but I didn't need one when hearing some of the funny lines as I laughed quite a bit at tome of those. Also, the version I saw on YouTube had some pixilation especially during "White Christmas". Oh, and this must have been from a local Los Angeles TV feed because the voiceover during the end credits was from Tom Brokaw who was an anchor over there at the time. Anyway, Bing Crosby and the Sounds of Christmas was a very enjoyable holiday special.
