Sicario (1994)

Review by jcarv

Sicario

representative

last night I saw it in Colombian public TV., it was difficult to me as Colombian seeing Venezuelans people talking Venezuela accent, but saying it was Colombia, this realities are very similar in Venezuela, so I didn't understand that necessity. The Medellín punk-rock was very different of the one shown, and the "vallenato" was not the only music in Medellin popular neighborhoods there's much of other musics. Maybe it's a primary but well done movie, and that say in a review how is the third world. The film is very similar in certain way to "Rodrigo D: No Futuro" (Rodrigo D: No Future) Colombia 1990, but with a better structure and a worst ambient investigation, I'll suggest seeing both to make "one" opinion. You also remember "La Virgen de los Sicarios" (Our Lady of the Assassins) French-Colombian, that was done latter in 2000 about Medellín youth hired killers. I heard of the movie time along from homeless youth, but thinking it was a B series I wasn't interested on it. With the above mention and "Cidade de Deus" (City of God) Brasil 2002, "De la Calle" (Streeters) México 2001, "Juliana" from Peru 1989 and "Gregorio" also Peru 1982, "Pixote" 1981 Brasil and the excellent Luis Buñuel (spanish) done in Mexico "Los Olvidados" 1950, are the more representative Latin America movies of this theme.
