Swing Burlesque
The Delta Rhythm Boys show off their musical chops -- and the ability to dress in drag -- in the swinging scat version of Verdi's music.
This close-harmony group formed as a college act in 1934, and continued to perform, with various personnel, into the 1980s. Their take on various Duke Ellington tunes became standards and imitated, and they were a popular set of performers in the soundies during that early music-video format in the 1940s; I've seen at least half a dozen of their soundies, and they're always good.
In this one they're going for comedy, but that's all right. The soundies were a format that required constant new product; more than 2000 of them were produced between 1940 and 1947.
